This extended abstract presents first results of a research project that addresses an approach to verify the functionality of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The main feature of this technique is concentrated on its ability to automatically generate functional test cases for a test platform completely from a formal test specification without any implementation details. The resulting platform provides the environment of the PLC, consisting of the PLC testbench in Structured Text (ST) format and test patterns. The specification is modeled in a complete property set using InTerval Language (ITL), while input and output signal types are defined using VHDL. The presented algorithm uses inherent properties of the formal test specification (completeness, consistency) to automatically generate a minimal set of test cases, covering all functional states as well as corner cases. © 2020 MBMV 2020: Methoden und Beschreibungssprachen zur Modellierung und Verifikation von Schaltungen und systemen - GMM/ITG/GI-Workshop. Test specifications are commonly written in an informal format, thus leading to ambiguities and misconceptions during their manual transformation to executable test programs. Increasing complexity of semiconductors and the need for reduced test time require novel methodologies in design, verification and test. In this paper, we propose a workflow tool called SpecScribe that targets a semi-automated approach for formal test specification, interfacing of Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) and handling of test results. Our tool provides models covering information about the Device Under Test (DUT), the test setup as well as the tests and the according test flow. Links and references between the specification items and different steps during the test workflow enable validation and verification of the specification on multiple abstraction levels. With the ability to directly target ATE for test setup and a result back-annotation to the specification, a closed loop approach for test development can be achieved. The proposal was evaluated using an in-house developed ASIC and showed the potential of our solution. Due to the growing popularity of climbing, research on non-invasive, camera-based motion analysis has received increasing attention. While extant work uses invasive technologies, such as wearables or modified walls and holds, or focusses on competitive sports, we for the first time propose a system that automatically detects motion errors that are typical for beginners with a low level of climbing experience by means of video analysis. In our work, we imitate a virtual mentor that provides an analysis directly after having climbed a route. We thereby employed an iPad Pro fourth generation with LiDAR to record climbing sequences, in which the climber’s skeleton is extracted using the Vision framework provided by Apple. We adapted an existing method to detect joints movements and introduced a finite state machine that represents the repetitive phases that occur in climbing. By means of the detected movements, the current phase can be determined. Based on the phase, single errors that are only relevant in specific phases are extracted from the video sequence and presented to the climber. Latest empirical tests with 14 probands demonstrated the working principle. We are currently collecting data of climbing beginners for a quantitative evaluation of the proposed system. © 2023 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Indoor Navigation systems are constantly improved in a variety of technological fields, but often without considering individual user requirements. As a direct consequence, navigation information is not sufficient for the variety of all users. By combining and evaluating user requirements and data models for indoor representation, five categories of indoor navigation information were compiled. OpenStreetMap (OSM) serves as a basis to form items for an online survey for able-bodied, visually and motorically impaired people. Based on the results, we determined: User groups are an important element in indoor navigation. Individual preferences and time dependence of information need to be considered additionally. These results are then used to derive implications for several stages and components in the technological development process. We argue that following these implications by including user requirements in these processes will lead to a higher satisfaction with Indoor Navigation systems for all users.

In recent years, the application of sensor systems in livestock farming has increased noticeably. Tracking systems for dairy barns are of great interest in the context of smart farming to enable a continuous digital monitoring of the cows’ movements, their individual behavioural patterns and the derived health status. In order to assess and validate the various number of different commercial systems, the CattleHub team specified a portable reference system for indoor tracking in livestock farming: OpenCattleHub. The system is defined to work in a ‘plug and play’ manner with portable, battery-powered UWB-based ‘satlets’ that can be freely arranged in a new environment. Besides easy handling by non-engineers, the focus is on high accuracy in x-y-coordinates and update frequency with full data availability including covariance matrices. Thereby, battery life is subordinate as it suffices to run the system for trials of approx. 1 – 2 weeks duration. The application lies in the scientific area: Apart from evaluating commercial systems, new applications of tracking systems can be identified and demonstrated. The OpenCattleHub tag is open for possible attachments of further sensors and has high scalability with an almost unlimited number of active tags. Different trials have been conducted with a preliminary functional prototype to validate the systems specified properties and behaviour in a sports hall and under barn conditions with static and dynamic experiments. The results presented are promising with a high precision in the static trials (3.7 cm / 7.0 cm) and an overall accuracy of 67.0 cm (sports hall) and 75.3 cm (barn). © ECPLF 2022.
