Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can be found in many environments. They are abundant and have many roles in our life. Studying bacteria is essential so that we can identify the bacteria that are needed for many industrial applications. However, the main problem is that majority of the bacteria are unculturable, hampering the exploration of bacteria from different environments. Metagenomics approach which employs Next Generation Sequencing technology could help study bacteria by utilizing 16S rRNA marker gene. This study aims to demonstrate data mining and bioinformatics approaches to analyze 16S rRNA sequencing data. The raw sequencing data of 16S rRNA was collected from biological database. Then, the data were trimmed, denoised, and clustered to generate Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs). Diversity (alpha and beta) and taxonomic analyses were then conducted to elucidate the bacterial diversity and taxonomic profile of ASVs. The results of this work showed that Shannon and PD indices in China's hot spring were higher than Singapore and the USA. Furthermore, a significant difference was observed in the PD index. The unweighted UniFrac distance also showed there was a significant difference of the bacterial communities between the three locations. In addition, the taxonomic investigation unveiled prevalent bacterial groups in the ecosystem, namely Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, and Crenarchaeota. The research outcomes have the potential to serve as a foundational resource for subsequent bacterial metagenomic research, particularly the hot spring environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a condition that often precedes dementia, making early diagnosis critical for delaying cognitive decline. Electroencephalography (EEG) has emerged as a non-invasive, cost-effective tool for monitoring brain activity and detecting MCI. This paper overviews recent advancements in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models for EEG-based MCI diagnosis. Traditional ML approaches, such as support vector machines (SVM) and K-nearest neighbors (KNN), have been widely used but rely on manually extracted features and face challenges with the complex nature of EEG signals. In contrast, DL models like convolutional neural networks (CNNs), long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, and transformers have shown promise in automatically learning features and capturing temporal and spatial information from EEG data. Despite these advancements, issues such as small dataset sizes and variability in EEG recordings remain barriers to clinical application. This paper discusses these challenges and highlights potential future directions for improving the diagnosis of MCI. © 2025 IEEE.

Image descriptions are crucial in assisting individuals without eyesight by providing verbal representations of visual content. While manual and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated descriptions exist, automatic description generators have not fully met the needs of visually impaired People. In this study, we have examined the problems related to image descriptions reported in existing literature using the Snowballing technique. Through this method, we have identified thirteen issues, including ethical concerns surrounding physical appearance, gender and identity, race, and disability. Furthermore, we have identified five reasons why sighted Individuals often fail to provide descriptions for visual content, highlighting the necessity for accessibility campaigns that raise awareness about the social significance of descriptive sentences. We conducted interviews with eight low-vision volunteers, in which we analyzed the characteristics of descriptive sentences for 25 indoor images and gathered participants’ expectations regarding image descriptions. As a result, we propose a set of Good Practices for writing descriptive sentences aimed to assist automatic tools and sighted Individuals in generating more satisfactory and high-quality image descriptions. We hope our results will emphasize the societal importance of imagery descriptions and inspire the community to pursue further interdisciplinary research to address the issues identified in our study.

IoT edge platform has become popular in various distributed environments. The edge devices need to communicate BigData among them or with the cloud servers by collaborating with AI technologies for finding events from the applications. Those devices exchange data streams from such as distributed sensors and remote image/video devices. We focus on an acceleration technique for the communication performance using a stream-based lossless data compression technology. This paper proposes a parallelization technique for the compression process in a software environment running on a multicore processor. The technique invokes concurrent compression processes assigned to multiple threads with splitting a data stream to chunks. The paper exposes three scheduling methods for assigning the chunks to the threads: in-order, hybrid and out-of-order. As an original data order of chunks must be obtained in decompression side, the proposed technique introduces packeting mechanisms in each chunk by adding headers to support the scheduling methods. Through experimental performance evaluations, we discuss the packeting overhead focusing on compression ratio and speedup by the parallelization with three scheduling methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) is a technology for recognizing handwritten text using artificial intelligence to enhance accuracy in character recognition. This technology has significant potential to support digital transformation in education. This paper discusses the implementation and benefits of ICR in education, particularly in automating the assessment of handwritten assignments, providing quick and accurate feedback, and reducing teachers' workload. By leveraging ICR technology, the learning process can become more efficient and effective. This paper also explores the challenges faced in implementing ICR and offers recommendations for further research and development in this field. The findings suggest that integrating ICR in education can provide a better learning experience and support the overall improvement of educational quality.

The present study examines how organizational work environments affect employee turnover at Delmon Poultry Company. The researcher used a structured questionnaire and a quantitative approach to collect data from 340 employees. The results show that the organizational work environment has a greater impact on employee attrition than the social environment, accounting for 75.5% of the turnover variance. Although the social environment is substantial, it only accounts for 29.2% of the variance. The research establishes that attrition reduction necessitates the enhancement of organizational factors, including policy impartiality and management practices. In order to offer a more comprehensive understanding of attrition dynamics, future research should investigate these relationships across various industries and over time. The study contributes to the literature by emphasizing the significance of a supportive organizational environment for employee retention and providing practical recommendations for human resource management to improve employee retention strategies. © 2024 IEEE.

This study investigates the challenges and opportunities of managing educational funds and controlling operational costs in two educational systems. It examines how factors such as school infrastructure, technology integration, teacher professional development, and parental involvement influence educational funding and quality. This study also explores the importance of equitable and efficient fund allocation, especially for remote schools that face resource constraints and development gaps. To analyze the financial trends of educational fund management, this study applies three machine learning models: decision trees, random forests, and support vector machines. The results show that the random forest model has the highest overall accuracy (90%) and the decision tree model has perfect accuracy in classifying institutions based on local income. This study identifies the most relevant features and demonstrates the effectiveness of the models in categorizing institutions and evaluating the fund management performance in the education sector.

This paper focuses on a performance enhancement of communication performance by compressing data stream. ASE coding is an effective lossless data compression method for data stream. The software implementation of the coding/decoding method inevitably meets a performance mismatch in memory and storage devices. In the compressor side, it is predictable to decide the size of an original data block and is available to process a flexible buffer memory. However, the decompressor is not able to predict the buffer size because the original data size is not obvious before the decompression. This causes a performance mismatch in the filesystem level. This paper proposes a novel method to address the performance mismatch by applying a notification mechanism of compression size from the compressor. This paper describes the mechanism focusing on the system call usage. Through experimental evaluations, we show the performance improvement of the decompression performance for handling data stream. © 2023 IEEE.

This study examines the integration of personalized gamification as a strategy to increase student engagement and academic performance, based on the analysis of behavioral profiles and game user personas. Using Detroit: Become Human as a tool to identify collaborative and competitive tendencies, the research aims to address the limitations of traditional methods, which often fail to engage students. The application of Game Theory, combined with the personalization of pedagogical interventions according to each student's profile, enabled the creation of more adapted and motivating approaches. The final results indicate a significant improvement in grades and student engagement levels, with 38.6% of students who were initially below average reaching or exceeding expected performance, along with a marked increase in interest in classroom participation. These findings reinforce the potential of gamified and personalized methodologies to transform the educational experience, adapting it to the individual traits and needs of students. Researchers emphasize the importance of hardware accelerators for mathematical morphology. If there are any issues, the hardware architecture may need to be redesigned. Thus, we propose a novel, reconfigurable hardware architecture with pipeline techniques for acceleration. With the order control register, there is no need to modify the architecture even if different results are expected. Furthermore, the hardware architecture caters to specific purposes instead of requiring a purpose-built hardware design. © 2023 IEEE.
