In this quantitative study, we examined the awareness of mobile health (mHealth) applications among taiwan’s university students, particularly the government-operated My Health Bank application. The My Health Bank application allows users to access their personal health information simply through their smartphone’s sensor-assisted facial recognition camera and fingerprint sensor. Whether these university students might help older adults to use this application if they perceive it to be helpful was also explored. Two instruments were used in this study, namely, the Perceptions toward My Health Bank (PMHB) and Geriatric Attitudes Scale (GAS). Two hundred twenty-five (225) university students from the Departments of Senior Citizen Service Management (n = 136) and Nursing (n = 89) at two universities participated in this study. The findings indicated low adoption of My Health Bank and related mHealth applications among students even though they had high adoption rates of smartphones. However, they perceived that the functions of this application are useful and should be promoted to older adults. Thus, building a basic foundation of mHealth and related technology courses is recommended to assist healthcare students in being well-prepared for working with older adults in the digital society. © MYU K.K.

An evaluation of nursing students' learning self-efficacy: A multi-dimensional instrument development and structural validation

Background: Nursing learning self-efficacy (NLSe) is essential in nursing students' learning, and since it is a task-dependent construct, accurate measurements require a multidimensional instrument. Objective: This research aimed to develop and validate a multidimensional NLSe instrument to measure taiwanese nursing students' views of nursing learning self-efficacy. Design: The cross-sectional study design was used for this investigation. Participants: The study included 1143 nursing students from a nursing junior college. Methods: To assess the validity and reliability of the instrument's factors, exploratory factor analysis (eFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were utilized. Conceptual understanding, higher-order cognitive skills, practical work, everyday application, and nursing communication were identified as five factors. A comparison of five proposed models was also conducted. Results: The study found that the correlated and one-factor second-order models were acceptable and provided a simple structure for evaluating nursing students' perceptions of NLSe. Furthermore, a specific model with two second-order scales (Cognition and Application) and one first-order scale (nursing communication) was identified, highlighting the crucial role of nursing communication in nursing students' self-efficacy. Conclusions: evaluating nursing students' learning self-efficacy using a valid and reliable instrument is crucial for understanding their learning confidence. The creation of such a scale constitutes the primary contribution of this study. © 2024 The Authors

Facilitating decision making in authentic contexts: an SVVR-based experiential flipped learning approach for professional training

ABSTRACTFacilitating decision making in authentic contexts is an important educational objective of professional training. To enable learners to have more opportunities to practice in authentic contexts under the guidance of instructors, the flipped learning mode of shifting the lectures to be the pre-class activity with the presentation of digital media has gradually been receiving attention. However, the conventional flipped learning mostly uses videos to present teaching content. In such a learning environment with one-way information and lack of experience, it is not easy for most learners to experience the actual situation encountered in the nursing procedure, which affects their judgment and performance when dealing with actual scenarios. To solve this problem, the present study adopted spherical video-based virtual reality (SVVR) to provide an experiential learning mode in flipped learning. To verify the effects of this teaching mode, this study conducted an experiment in a blood transfusion safety training course. The experimental group used the SVVR-based experiential flipped learning (SVVR-eFL) mode, while the control group used the conventional flipped learning mode. The results showed that using the SVVR-eFL mode not only enhanced new nursing staff’s learning achievement, but also increased their decision-making performance, meta-cognition tendency, problem-solving tendency and classroom engagement.

Two new non-withanolidal steroids with a cross-conjugated dienone structural unit in ring A, capnesterones A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the soft coral Capnella imbricata in the southeast waters of taiwan. The compounds' structures were elucidated through a comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data, including IR, eSIMS, ¹H NMR, and ¹³C NMR, and through comparison with previous literature. At a concentration of 10 μM, steroids 1 and 2 exhibited reductions in iNOS levels (60 % and 82 %) compared to LPS-stimulated control cells, along with increased release (134 % and 110 %) against COX-2 protein expressions. © 2024 Phytochemical Society of europe

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors affecting the passenger traffic volume on the high-capacity MRT, to analyze the traffic volume trends, and to make traffic volume predictions more accurately. This paper uses the LSTM (Long Short-term Memory) model and regression analysis for Taipei MRT passenger traffic volume prediction. The training data, including dates, temperatures and number of passengers, were collected, and a regression analysis was performed to find trends in the data.

Abstract: In this study, we investigate blood flow in a small artery with a constriction using gold nanoparticles (Au) in the presence of microorganisms, mass, and heat transfer. The non-Newtonian behavior of blood fluid in slight arteries is quantitatively inspected by simulating blood flow using the Carreau fluid model. Momentum equations incorporating magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and Darcy–Forchheimer porous media are used to model the fluid flow. Heat transfer properties, including thermal radiation, joule dissipation, and bio-convective microorganisms, are investigated. Blood serves as the base fluid for the nanofluid, which contains gold nanoparticles. The system's nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into nonlinear ODes through suitable transformations. To obtain numerical solutions for these ODes, the homotopy analysis method is used. The physical implications of flow restrictions are compared with fictitious fluid flow using physical interpretations. Additionally, investigations into the interpretations of blood flow based on drag force and heat transfer are being conducted. ANOVA, or analysis of variance, is a dependable statistical tool used to evaluate regression models and a variety of statistical tests. These investigations include error assessments, total error evaluations, F-values, p-values, and model fit assessments. These statistical investigations were applied to the dataset at hand, with the goal of achieving a robust 95% level of confidence. We investigate the effects of minute adjustments in parameters on both the heat transfer rate and the friction factor rate using these analyses. The study intends to dive deeper into the potential effects of minor changes in one or more factors on the overall effectiveness of surface friction rate and the larger domain of thermal energy transfer. In the era of the global village, frequent cross-border trade in goods has made container transportation a significant part in delivery of cargo. However, rollover accidents of container trucks often occur because of tall truck height, improper cargo stowage or crooked roads. Therefore, how to find the optimal center of gravity (CG) of the packed cargo remains an issue that the transportation industry should not neglect. To optimize cargo stability and reduce the incidence of rollovers, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm that scores the cargo stacking process to find the best CG of the cargo based on the CG of the vehicle. According to the deviation angle and the point closest to the best CG, we can Figure out the optimal cargo stacking method.

engagement is critical to computational thinking and programming education. However, as multi-dimensional variables, when analyzing how different aspects of engagement in computational thinking tasks influence skills development, it becomes crucial to discern precisely which engagement components intersect with the progression of computational thinking skills. This discernment is pivotal because engagement can vary based on the task nature, the context, and the individual's preferences. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the gender differences in engagement and computational thinking skills and the predictive relationships among these sub-dimensions for boys and girls in an unplugged environment. In this study, a quasi-experiment for 90 sixth-grade students from a north Chinese primary school was performed. By partial least squares–structural equation modeling, students’ models of computational thinking skills and engagement were analyzed, and comparisons of boys and girls were made by analysis of covariance statistics. Results indicated that compared with boys, girls reported higher computational thinking performance and more engagement in unplugged contexts. Furthermore, girls’ computational thinking skills were only predicted by their cognitive engagement, whereas boys’ computational thinking skills were predicted by their behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. Teachers can adopt these findings to design computational thinking teaching interventions that combine the advantages of unplugged activity and focus on the engagement of boys and girls. © 2024

Kirsten rat sarcoma virus (KRAS) signaling drives pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) malignancy, which is an unmet clinical need. Here, we identify a disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain (ADAM)9 as a modulator of PDAC progression via stabilization of wild-type and mutant KRAS proteins. Mechanistically, ADAM9 loss increases the interaction of KRAS with plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1), which functions as a selective autophagy receptor in conjunction with light chain 3 (LC3), triggering lysosomal degradation of KRAS. Suppression of ADAM9 by a small-molecule inhibitor restricts disease progression in spontaneous models, and combination with gemcitabine elicits dramatic regression of patient-derived tumors. Our findings provide a promising strategy to target the KRAS signaling cascade and demonstrate a potential modality to enhance sensitivity to chemotherapy in PDAC. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature America, Inc. 2024.

The in-situ remediation of groundwater contaminated with mixed chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) has become a significant global research interest. However, limited attention has been given in understanding the effects of these remediation efforts on the groundwater microbial communities, which are vital for maintaining ecosystem health through their involvement in biogeochemical cycles. Hence, this study aimed to provide valuable insights into the impacts of in-situ remediation methods on groundwater microbial communities and ecosystem functionality, employing high-throughput sequencing coupled with functional and physiological assays. The results showed that both bioremediation and chemical remediation methods adversely affected microbial diversity and abundance compared to non-polluted sites. Certain taxa such as Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, and Vogesella were sensitive to these remediation methods, while Aquabacterium exhibited greater adaptability. Functional annotation unveiled the beneficial impact of bioremediation on the sulfur cycle and specific taxa such as Cellvibrio, Massilia, Algoriphagus, and Flavobacterium which showed a significant positive relationship with dark oxidation of sulfur compounds. In contrast, chemical remediation showed adverse impacts on the nitrogen cycle with a reduced abundance of nitrogen and nitrate respiration along with a reduced utilization of amines (nitrogen rich substrate). The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the potential impacts of in-situ remediation methods on groundwater microbial communities and ecosystem functionality, emphasizing the need for meticulous consideration to ensure the implementation of effective and sustainable remediation strategies that safeguard ecosystem health and function. © 2024
