This article presents an overview of a community development service learning programme operating in the Greek Ionian Island community of Farsa Village. The philosophical approach of the Kefalonia program is one of ‘threading the past with the future’. It seeks to combine traditional knowledge with contemporary technologies in order to create a sustainable future for a community that was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. The village provides a case study for collaboration, research and community education for students, teachers, researchers, nonprofit organisations, island governments and, in particular, the local Farsan Village community. As a catalyst, the programme has engaged the local community in an active planning process, which both reawakens the dream of village restoration and provides a common vision for the future.
Increasing urbanization and rapid resource depletion have forced authorities to shift from the traditional linear system of take-use disposal to a circular system of agricultural pratices. Circular Economy (CE) is a s...

Mansfield's Section 203 has triggered a searching review by DOD of its research. Using the general budget constraints of the past few years as an effective springboard, Mansfield went on to question and then challenge all of the federal government's policies for R & D. The entire post-World War II institutional machinery and rhetoric for R & D are now in some disarray and, thus, are open to imaginative, constructive change. Mission-oriented R & D, still central to progress toward our national goals, must be comprehensively rethought in order to restore the public confidence necessary for adequate support of science and technology.

There are evidences that the aeronautical industry is a large Brazilian business success example. This success was followed by a significant thickening of the supply chain composed of small and medium-sized technology-based firms, among other suppliers. Considering these companies and their contribution to economic development, this paper proposes to identify and analyze the mechanisms of articulation and territorial governance of the Regional Innovation System located in Metropolitan Region of Paraíba Valley and North Coast, in order to analyze the role of innovation networks for regional development. The methodological approach was grounded in the interpretive vision. The empirical research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with various actors. The research examined innovation as strategic theme in the institutions and the region;public policies to foster innovation;cooperation between the actors;learning processes;processes of innovation diffusion;challenges, barriers and difficulties. The results indicate the need for a new level of maturity in the regional innovation system, with greater coordination of innovation networks and greater integration of the science, technology and innovation base, aimed at broader challenges faced by the territory, in benefit of the socio-economic development of the Metropolitan Region of Paraíba Valley and North Coast. Based on the results, we can conclude that the Regional Innovation System of Brazilian Aeronautical Industry aims to disseminate the culture of innovation as a competitive differential of enterprises in this globalized world. Finally, it is possible to state that the study of Regional Innovation System in the aeronautics industry was very enlightening, to have produced results which can be useful both to the future research on the subject as well as for the development of new solutions for the growth of the companies located in Metropolitan Region of Paraíba Valley and North Coast, in São Paulo, Brazi

The increasingly zealous support today for diversion of youth from the juvenile justice system is a consequence of several widely held notions: (1) Traditional strategies for dealing with juvenile offenders have not worked; ( 2) informal diversion is used both widely and effectively now; and (3) the most humane treatment of troubled youth is based upon the parens patriae philosophy of justice. Yet, the authors contend, diversion may be seen as potentially dangerous and harmful, and they present several arguments against expansion of diversionary services: (1) The concept's ambiguity allows many to promote expansion of the juvenile justice system in the form of diversion "to" other programs, while true diversion "from" the system is nonexistent; (2) the goals of diversionary programs-such as elimination of stigmatizing labels and formal duplica tion of existing informal processes-are unattainable; (3) formal diversion is incompatible with due process ideals. Until these difficulties have been resolved, diversionary options should be viewed with caution.
