Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are bioelectrochemical instruments that exploit living microbes as biocatalysts for the conversion of chemical energy stored in the bonds of substrates into electrical energy. Monitoring of current or voltage generation in microbial fuel cells at rigid time intervals is noteworthy. Unfortunately, bioelectrochemical studies are often constrained due to the need for expensive and precise devices for electrochemical measurements. Utilization of low-cost microcontroller as monitoring system can be a considerable solution, compared with data logger that is a high-cost device, or compared with commercial multimeter that have to be used manually in collecting data. In this present work, microbial fuel cells electricity generation was successfully online monitored and the voltage data was also successfully collected using an ESP32 based-data logger. Statistically, there was no significant difference between ESP32 and multimeter in voltage reading, and the average of absolute and relative error values were 0.85 mV and 2.72%, respectively. It suggested that ESP32 could be a possible and low-cost monitoring system for microbial fuel cells bioelectricity generation. Additionally, ADS1115 (an external analogue to digital converter interface to ESP32) has up to four analogue channels, whereas multimeter has just one. In this research, microbial fuel cell powered by isolate KCf1 generated highest voltage value of 789 mV and power density of 541 mW m⁻². © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Iranian Society of Environmentalists (IRSEN) and Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University 2023.

Measuring the Complexity of EMG Signal by Using Fuzzy Approximate Entropy in Post-Stroke Patients Rehabilitation

Stroke is one of world’s highest medical cases that cause physical or mental problem, even death. The treatment for overcoming stroke so far was by conducting rehabilitation or therapy. The therapy progress could be seen over the improvement indicated by stroke patients after participation in rehabilitation program. So far, the assessment of the level of development exhibited by stroke patients are still subjective. Meanwhile, Electromyograph (EMG) can be used as a quantitative method to evaluate the patient's improvement. The complexity of the EMG signal could define the progress of a rehabilitation process related to muscle function. One of the methods to calculate the complexity is fuzzy approximate entropy (fApEn). This study aims to propose fApEn as a quantitative method to evaluate the condition of stroke patients by comparing the complexity of the normal EMG, affected, and unaffected side limb of the patient's EMG signal. The value of fApEn on Subject 1 showed that the affected side obtained the complexity of 0.18141 and on the unaffected side of 0.80740. Subject 2 showed the complexity on the affected side of 0.58597 and the unaffected side of 1.02787, whereas the healthy subjects showed the complexity of 2.07856. The statistical results showed that the data were homogeneous and normally distributed. There was a significant difference between the results of fApEn on the affected side and the unaffected side. Thus, fApEn could be used as a quantitative method to determine the condition of muscle activity. © 2021 School of Science, IHU. All rights reserved.

In this study, an inquiry was conducted to examine the influence of temperature on the crystal structure of sodium titanate (NTO). NTO was synthesized using NaCl, TTIP, citric acid, and ethylene glycol as precursors. The NaCl-citric acid precursor was dissolved in purified water, while the titanium precursor was prepared by blending ethylene glycol with TTIP. After vigorous stirring, the precursor solution was placed in a Teflon-coated stainless steel autoclave, subjected to preheating, and subsequently dried to form a gel. The gel underwent calcination at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1000 °C for 3 hours each. The resulting samples were rinsed with deionized water and dried to eliminate residual NaCl. Based on the results of XRD characterization, the NaTi4O8 phase experienced decomposition into rutile form when the calcination temperature was increased from 800-1000 °C and began to be identified as a rutile phase at a temperature of 900 °C. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

SKA sensitivity to sub-GeV dark matter decay: Synchrotron radio emissions in white dwarf magnetospheres

We investigate the potential of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) in detecting synchrotron radiation emitted from the decay of sub-GeV dark matter (dark matter with masses below the GeV scale) in the presence of strong magnetic fields. As a concrete setup, we consider scenarios where the magnetosphere of a magnetic white dwarf overlaps with dense dark matter environments, such as those surrounding a primordial black hole. Our study reveals that the encounters of compact objects such as white dwarfs and black holes offer a promising avenue for upcoming radio telescopes to probe the properties of light dark matter, which has been less explored compared with more conventional heavier (masses above the GeV scale) dark matter.

Introducing passivation molecules has been being considered as one of effective strategies to reduce surface crystal defects and hence improve the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this paper, we report the effects of organofluorine molecules, specifically trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), added in the ethyl acetate (EA) anti-solvent on the characteristics of MAPbI3 based PSCs, which are related to interfacial surface states, band bending characteristics and charge extraction processes. Anti-solvents with several volume fractions of TFA were used in the perovskite layer deposition step by the spin-coating technique. The current density vs. voltage (J–V) curve hysteresis was suppressed while the PSC stability and the PSC performance repeatability of the fabrication results were much improved in PSC prepared using EA anti-solvent with moderate volume fraction of TFA (i.e. 5% v/v). These PSC samples were also characterized by measurements of impedance photovoltaic spectroscopy (IMVS) and transient photovoltaic (TPV). By performing TPV measurements at various dc light biases, an unusual delayed TPV decay component with a long rise part was observed, especially at PSCs prepared with moderate volume fractions of TFA in EA anti-solvent. The infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS) data showed that TFA removed uncoordinated or weakly bonded MA+ cations and I− anions at the NCs surface but leaving the accumulation of Pb2+ cations on the surface. This condition causes the formation of surface states leading to a downward band bending at the MAPbI3/HTL interface, which is responsible to the observation this delayed TPV decay component. However, this situation improves the PSC performance by minimizing the effect from mobile ion migration. These present measurement results thus clearly&

The research objective of this is to see how to apply science practicum online using Microsoft Teams and Learning Management System (LMS). The form of this research is classroom action research which aims to apply the online science practicum during the Covid 19 pandemic. Therefore, it is carried out using two cycles in the application of online science practicum. The subjects of this study were students of the seventh semester in the Natural Science practicum course. Through observation and evaluation, it is shown that in the cycle I the percentage of practicum implementation which includes aspects of preparation, process and data and practicum results is 87.5%, in cycle II it has increased to 92.5%. In the assessment aspect of the practicum report, the average practicum assessment obtained in the first cycle was 3.09 from the highest score of 4 and in the second cycle was 3.7, while the aspect of student knowledge about the use of the Microsoft team which was taken using google form was 93%. In the aspect of student knowledge about the use of Learning Management System (LMS) by 75% and aspects of student understanding in the implementation of online science practicum using Microsoft Teams by 75%. © 2021 Institute of physics Publishing. This research aims to analyze the effect of ozone exposure time and lard mixture on the polarization angle of transmission of olive oil. The study uses a transmission polarization method with a laser (λ = 532 nm) as a light source. The research sample in the form of olive oil mixed with lard at a concentration of 10, 20, 40, and 80%, with an ozone exposure time of 0-30 minutes. The sample is subjected to external electric fields with variations from 0-4.5 x 102 kV/m to increase the change's polarization angle. The results showed that the change in polarization angle would change linearly with the increase in lard concentration with olive oil. Olive oil with a low concentration of lard (10%) experienced an increase in the change in polarization angle with a value of 0.31 due to the effect of 90 minutes of ozone exposure. In general, the results of the study showed that increased concentrations of lard, ozone exposure time, electric field strengths caused an increase in changes in the polarization angle in a mixture of olive oil and lard. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Management of patient data at the Technical Implementation Unit of the Community Health Center (UPT. Puskesmas) of Rhee Sumbawa District has not been fully computerized. The need for the development of an Information System to store medical records (history) of patient data. The research aims to develop information systems with descriptive research methods. For software development methods using Waterfall Models and built with Microsoft Visual Studio C# software and databases stored in Microsoft SQL Server software. Software testing uses Black Box Testing, which is testing software in functional terms. One of the central goals of neuroscience is to gain a mechanistic understanding of how the dynamics of neural circuits give rise to their observed function. A popular approach towards this end is to train recurrent neural networks (RNNs) to reproduce experimental recordings of neural activity. These trained RNNs are then treated as surrogate models of biological neural circuits, whose properties can be dissected via dynamical systems analysis. How reliable are the mechanistic insights derived from this procedure? While recent advances in population-level recording technologies have allowed simultaneous recording of up to tens of thousands of neurons, this represents only a tiny fraction of most cortical circuits. Here we show that observing only a subset of neurons in a circuit can create mechanistic mismatches between a simulated teacher network and a data-constrained student, even when the two networks have matching single-unit dynamics. In particular, partial observation of models of low-dimensional cortical dynamics based on functionally feedforward or low-rank connectivity can lead to surrogate models with spurious attractor structure. Our results illustrate the challenges inherent in accurately uncovering neural mechanisms from single-trial data, and suggest the need for new methods of validating data-constrained models for neural dynamics.

Our research aims to determine the results of student responses after applying VLAB-based STEM learning in the direct current electric circuit section. This study uses a qualitative method. Sampling using a purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 13 students of mechanical engineering study program at Universitas Majalengka. The sample consisted of 13 students of mechanical engineering study program at Universitas Majalengka.. Data collection techniques using student questionnaire responses. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed descriptively. Most students respond like VLAB-based STEM, the stages of learning provide learning experiences for students so students are motivated in learning. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
