The research area is one of the areas that have potential of hydrothermal deposit mineralization in Pacitan regency. This research aims to identify the presence of hydrothermal deposit mineralized zones through geophysical exploration by using induced polarization method in the study area. The induced polarization method is used to obtain anomalies in the form of contrast of resistivity and chargeability values in the study area. The results showed that the mineralized zones of hydrothermal deposit in the study area were characterized by significant anomaly contrast with the intensity of medium-high (> 100 Ωm) resistivity values associated with medium-value chargeability (20-50 ms). The association of resistivity and other chargeability values shows an intense alteration zone around the metal mineral deposits zone in the subsurface. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. The use of deep learning in medical image classification has become an important study in the past few years. The proper use of this method, however, is still hindered by many problems, one of it being the imbalance of dataset available for training which resulted in small-set database. In this study, the effect of noise-based augmentation on the performance of deep learning based classification will be studied. The noises which were used for the augmentation method were Perlin-noise and Gaussian noise. The modality of medical image used in this study is X-ray. 174 X-ray images (87 cancer, 87 normal) were used in this study and will be classified by using transfer learning from previously trained deep learning architecture. The deep learning architecture used was vgg-19. The images were divided into two groups, 138 (69 cancer, 69 normal) images were used for training phase and 36 (18 cancer, 18 normal) were images used for testing phase. Three deep learning models were used for the classification tasks, the first one was retrained to classify the original images, the second one was retrained by using mix of original images and images with Perlin-noise, and the third one was retrained by using mix of original images and images with Gaussian noise. The results showed that the three models returned similar accuracy of 0.8 which indicate that the use of noise-based augmentation can increase the performance of deep learning in classifying medical images with small set training database. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

There are two important factors to overcome spinal tuberculosis, i.e. killing and preventing the Mycobacterium tuberculosis to spread, also replacing and reconstructing the damaged bone. This study focused on an innovation to overcome the spinal tuberculosis problem by combining the IBS and 3D printed bone scaffold. This innovation could provide a local drug delivery system along with tissue regeneration and bone reconstruction. In this study, 3D printed bone scaffold which have been injected with IBS were tested its physical characterizations. The bone scaffold was fabricated from Polylactide acid (PLA) filament using FDM method through an ordinary commercial 3D printer. The IBS was synthesized from nanohydroxyapatite, gelatin, streptomycin, and HPMC. The physical characterization performed in this study were porosity test functional group test, and degradation test. From those characterizations, it could be concluded that the IBS associated-3D printed bone scaffold is a potential alternative to overcome spinal tuberculosis. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

It is important to study the properties of high quality single crystal in order to resolve the issue of an interesting material in which certain debatable fundamental properties exist. However, it is unfortunate that a sizable single crystal for experimental measurements is not always available. NbN is one of the examples; it has attracted scientific and engineering interest due to its diverse physical properties and a variety of structural phases. Until now superconductivity is only observed in cubic δ- and tetragonal γ-NbN but not in hexagonal ɛ-NbN. Recently, Zou et al. reported the observation of superconductivity with Tc∼11.6K in a hexagonal ɛ-NbN based on the measurement on a multiphase powder specimen. In order to resolve the issue, the work used the electron backscattering diffraction technique to characterize phases of micron-size NbN crystals from commercial powders and measure their transport properties. Our results unambiguously confirm that the hexagonal ɛ-NbN phase is not superconducting.

This paper presents computer modeling, analysis and research of the hyper-chaotic Lorenz system based on programming interface that has been developed in LabView software environment. This study allows for generating and research of the main information properties of hyper-chaotic Lorenz system, focusing on time distribution of the four chaotic coordinates, phase portraits and Lyapunov exponents. The programming interface demonstrates the algorithm of masking and decrypt of the information carrier. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Synthesis and characterization of folic acid-functionalized, doxorubicin-loaded magnetic nanoparticles as drug delivery system for cancer

Cancer is one of the primary causes of death in the world and the prevalence in Indonesia reaches 1,4% per year. One method of the most developed cancer therapies right now is targeting drug delivery. Targeting drug delivery makes it possible for drugs to be delivered directly to the targeted cells and released once they reach the destination. The aim of this research is to develop a nanocarrier using folic acid-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles to improve the effectiveness of antitumor drugs for cancer therapy. The magnetic nanoparticles synthesis method used in this research is chemical synthesis. Chemical materials FeCl3 and FeCl2 are mixed with NH4OH until magnetic nanoparticles appear. The magnetic nanoparticles obtained are then coated using bovine serum albumin, loaded with the drug doxorubicin, and functionalized with folic acid. The characterization methods used are Brine Shrimp Lethal Test (BSLT), X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), and MTT Assay. The success of drug release test is performed using UV-Vis. The results of this research showed that the magnetic nanoparticles were non-toxic with no impurities, but had not passed the size requirement as a good nanocarrier. Drug release in acidic pH, which is 5.4, had the highest release rate, thus it would be suitable for cancer cells which have lower pH compared to normal cells. Cytotoxicity test using MTT Assay method with murine osteoblastic cell line MC3T3 cells showed quite high cell viability, so it will not affect normal tissues and cells. It can be concluded that folic acid-functionalized, doxorubicin-loaded magnetic nanoparticles have potential to be used as nanocarrier in drug delivery system.

In diffraction experiments, natural gratings often create uncommon diffraction patterns compared with those resulting from manufactured gratings. This study analyzed a unique diffraction pattern obtained by a grating from a flying termite wing. A ring-like diffraction pattern was formed because of the grating morphology from a flying termite wing, which consisted of horizontal- and vertical-structured slits. The mechanism of diffraction pattern formation is also provided. The distance between slits was measured using digital microscope images and a diffraction experiment, with the results coming to an agreement. Using this grating in a diffraction experiment can help educators provide an alternative diffraction experiment that supports students in studying the topic in a more complex manner. © 2022 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Shear wave velocity (Vs30) is one of the local condition parameters often used to determine buildings’ vulnerability to potential damage if an earthquake occurs. This parameter is essential for planning and evaluation in infrastructure development. Tadulako University, which is repairing the building and the layout of the campus area after the September 28, 2018 earthquake, needs to consider the parameters of the shear wave. Measurements of the Vs30 value have been carried out at 20 points spread across Tadulako University using the microtremor method. The value of Vs30 is then estimated to determine the classification of the surface soil. The results obtained indicate that the variation in value is not too significant; it is between 424 m/s – 530 m/s. This value is included in the C class site and has very dense soil and soft rock soil profile classification. The highest value is in the southwest part, and the lowest value is in the northeast part.

This study presents an investigation of chemical and physical characterization, green process analysis, techno-economic considerations, and carbon emissions for synthesizing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from plastic and can waste using microwave-assisted synthesis. The microwave-assisted synthesis proves to be more cost-effective, with a reduction in CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. The synthesized material (MIL-Mw-U) demonstrates excellent performance in methylene blue (MB) removal, achieving 98.41% removal, with 97.87% removal although the catalyst is used in the third cycle. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto MIL-Mw-U achieved a maximum capacity of 295.26 mgg⁻¹ at pH 3 and decreased to 258.68 mgg⁻¹ at pH 11 due to OH⁻ competition. The Langmuir isotherm (R² = 0.9381) and pseudo-second-order kinetics (R² = 0.999) confirmed monolayer chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. This innovative approach supports circular economy principles by converting can and plastic bottle waste into functional material for dye removal, offering sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. © 2025 The Authors

X-ray application of micro-computed tomography for biological sample test

Homemade micro-CT equipment has been successfully developed in the physics Laboratory of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The micro-CT was tested and could be used properly for non-destructive testing (NDT) using a phantom as the object. However, the application of the micro-CT for biological samples has not been investigated. Therefore, in this work, an investigation of the homemade micro-CT for biological samples was done. Tilapia fish was used an object. The fish was exposed to the X-ray using exposure factors of 45 kV, 32 mA, and 0.08 s. The object was rotated with rotation angle range of 0°-360° with increment of 1.40625° and the images at every rotation angle increment was recorded. The three-dimensional (3D) image was then reconstructed from the collection of the two-dimensional (2D) images obtained during rotation. The quality of the images was then analyzed using contrast to noise ratio method (CNR). The results showed that the highest CNR was obtained at the image taken with rotation angle of 315° which was 81.163. Therefore, it can be concluded that the homemade micro-CT equipment could be used for biological sample and can be further applied in other applications such as CT-scan.
