The study aims to describe (1) the development stages of the manual arc welding job sheet and (2) its validity. It is a Research and Development (R & D) of which the data were collected by means of non-test instruments, namely the closed-ended questionnaires with the 5-scale responses. The data were collected from the three research participants acting as the material and media experts,namely two lecturers in the mechanical engineering Education study program, Faculty of engineering (FE), Yogyakarta State University (YSU), and a teacher of the Basic Welding Technique subject. The job sheet development stages were adapted from Thiagarajan's model, namely the Four-D model covering the definition, design, development, and dissemination. Data were analyzed quantitatively by means of the descriptive statistics. The results of the material evaluation by the material expert I prove that the job sheet is categorized as Appropriate (with the total score of 145 or 82.9%) and Very Appropriate based on the material expert II with the total score of 153 (87.4%). Besides, in terms of the media, the job sheet is Appropriate based on the media expert I (with the total score of 207 or 82.8%) and Very Appropriate based on the media expert II (with the total score of 215 or 84.4%). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This work studies formation control of Multi-Agent Systems (MASs) where its formation size is scalable via a scaling factor (scalable formation). Previous works on scalable formation are limited to either fixed undirected graph or fixed directed graph with p-rooted graph condition. This work proposes a novel distributed algorithm for scalable formation based on a distributed observer to estimate agents' positions. The novel algorithm results in a new matrix, a Laplacian matrix with additional diagonal terms, where the desired formation pattern is embedded in this diagonal terms. With the proposed algorithm, only spanning tree condition is needed as the necessary and sufficient condition to achieve the scalable formation. Numerical examples are shown to illustrate the proposed method. © 2020 IEEE.

Investigation of Austempering Effect on Fatigue Crack Growth of AISI 4140 Steel

The compact tension (CT) and tensile specimens of the AISI 4140 steel in cold rolling condition (untreated steel) were austempered by immersing it into the salt bath at 362℃ for 60 minutes. The tensile strength properties and the fatigue crack growth (FCG) resistance were performed to investigate the effect of the austempering process in AISI 4140 steel. A significant increase in the yield strength for austempered steel is about 8.7 % and the elastic strain energy increases by 55.7 %. Austempered steel's fatigue crack cycle is longer than that of untreated steel. Data of stress intensity factor range (ΔK, MPa.m1/2) and FCG rate (da/dN, m/cycle) was constructed in double log plot x-y axes for determining the materials constants m and C according to Paris’s law equation using a linear regression method. From the curve of ΔK versus da/dN, the constant m value for austempered steel (m = 3.45) shows better resistance than untreated steel (m = 3.77). On the other hand, the constant C value of 1.409×10-12 for austempered steel is one order magnitude higher than that of untreated steel (C = 4.151×10-13). The resistance of austempered steel against fatigue crack growth can be attributed to the formation of a bainite structure. © 2024 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

One of the business activities favored by the villagers is poultry farming. This happened because the harvest period is fast and the market is easy, especially for public consumption in the province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. Due to the large number of people who are trying to raise ducks, chickens, and laying eggs, problems have arisen with the provision of these poultry seeds. So far, poultry seeds in the Aceh Province have been obtained from a small portion of the populationAcehnese themselves and the rest were imported from North Sumatra. This causes the fluctuating supply of seed poultry which will eventually disrupt the community's poultry farming business in Aceh Province. Seeing these problems, this research wants to produce a multilevel incubator heating system that maintains a uniform temperature for better incubator efficiency. The test is carried out by paying attention to the temperature distribution in the egg incubator. Thus, measuring the distribution temperature with a value range of 37 °C–38 °C at certain points through the test channel is the main thing that must be done. The variation in this research is the number of incandescent lamps/heating plates (4 and 6) which differs whether or not the zinc plate is under the incandescent lamp/heating plate with a power of 100 and 112 Watts for each heater. The heater in the incubator room will turn on at 37 °C and will turn off automatically at 38 °C due to the influence of the thermostat equipment. After testing, the temperature was 0.7 °C for 4 (four) heating plates without using a zinc plate under the heating plate and 0.8 °C for 4 (four) incandescent lamps without using a zinc plate under the incandescent lamp. However, there is a small comparison, namely 0.4 °C for 6 (six) heating plates using a zinc plate under the heating plate and 0.5 °C for 6 (six) light bulbs using a zinc plate under an incandescent lamp. Lifting spreader construction with a maximum capability of 180 tons every day works by carrying transformer loads that vary up to maximum loads. The loads tested were 105 tons, 125 tons, 150 tons and 180 tonsThe tool not only experiences vertical tensile load but also experiences horizontal load due to acceleration or deceleration of the overhead crane. To prevent fracture due to fatigue, the lifting spreader needs to be analyzed its service life. Obtained data of mass transformers per year and construction specification will be dynamically analyzed using SAP2000 software to gain informationmaximum and minimum stress from each of its shell nodes. Data Collectionof stress will be processed through the S-N Curve mechanism and Palmsgren Miner rules to determine the cyclic load of the fatigue life plate of spreader. This analysis found that maximum capacity 180 tons value Sf above from endurance limit state. And the assessmentdecline fatigue life of the lifting spreader based data within 45 years. The researcher recommends a decrease in the value of the capacity till to 10 percent for things that are not expected that result in a decrease in the quality of construction. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The purpose of this research is to analyze how the scrap material or metal scrap can be reused as a regular material in a production process. The reused scrap material is prepared to use in propeller shaft guard production. This propeller shaft guard is used with the main function to guard the propeller shaft in the car. Therefore, calculating the total mass of the scrap material and propeller shaft guard is needed to know the ratio of the usage of material, the machine tonnage calculation for propeller shaft guard production using reused scrap material, and the new design for blanking material. The total machine tonnage for producing propeller shaft guard using reused scrap material is 260.09 T. The new design for the propeller shaft guard can fit the reused scrap blanking material is created. The total usage of scrap material increased from 49.46% to 79.69% after the material was used in the propeller shaft guard production. The comparison between the condition before and after using reused scrap material as the propeller shaft guard indicates the factors of the total amount of blanking material, the total amount of dies, and dandori are described in this research. © 2019 IEEE.

Biomass gasification converts into syngas through the gasification process is promising for renewable energy utilization. Although gasification is a sustainable and environmentally-friendly technology for value-added utilization of biomass, yield percentage is the major problem during biomass gasification. An optimized gasifier and highly active catalyst were proved to be effective for biomass production. Furthermore, the decomposition pathway was also important to advance the gasification reactors and catalyst design. This paper summarized the fundamentals, such as gasifier types, zeolite catalysts, and reaction and deactivation mechanisms. This review also sheds light on other excellent catalysts, effective gasifier, and catalyst reaction mechanisms are also discussed in detail. At last, the paper ends with a conclusion and a prospective discussion of the lab-scale research. At the contact time of 240 minutes, with a column height of 30 cm, at a temperature of 450 oC, the concentration of syngas promise well. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Damage that occurs on the pavement can be in the form of permanent deformation, cracks due to temperature changes, material damage and material detachment. This research tested the resistance of the Asphalt Concrete Wearing Course (AC-WC) mixture using a plastic bag of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) polymer type against water through immersion in water with a temperature of 60 ℃ for 30 min, 24, 48 and 72 h with a continuous system and variations in LDPE polymer plastic content. by 0, 5, 7 and 9%. The results of the analysis show that the use of LDPE polymer plastic in the AC-WC mixture can increase the resistance to damage to the mixture due to continuous water immersion by reducing the retained strength index value and increasing the remaining strength index value with increasing the duration of immersion. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Cooling effectiveness using a cooling fan on an electronic device becomes a benchmark. Speaker- based synthetic jets that are becoming innovations today work on the principle of zero input mass, producing air in the cavity with an oscillating membrane which results in the suction phase occurring in the orifice hole. The generated air then flows through the orifice to pound the heat source as a forced convection cooler. Speakers used as oscillating actuators resemble waveforms using sine, square, and triangular wave functions with frequencies of 80, 100, and 120 Hz. Air flow simulation created using Fluent CFD. The use of wave variations has different characteristics. Triangular waves indicate the final test temperature reaches 27oC, with an optimum frequency of 80 Hz. Air flow created in the form of vortex flow with a type of turbulent flow. The electric power consumption of cooling fans reaches ten times the consumption of synthetic jet power. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

In improving the quality of human resources, one of which lies in the quality of quality education. In this case, education has a very important meaning in human life, both in the life of individuals, nations, and countries. Therefore education must be implemented as well as possible so that it is following the objectives that have been planned. The objectives to be achieved from this study are to produce teaching materials for GMAW welding practice materials, produce teaching materials that are suitable for use in GMAW welding practices, and provide an evaluation of the effectiveness of using GMAW welding practice teaching materials after being used in learning. This research method uses the Borg and Gall development research method which is simplified into four steps, namely modified (simplified) into 4 steps consisting of: (1) preliminary study;(2) product development and validation;(3) limited trial;and (4) the final product. The type of research used in this research is the development of teaching materials in the form of practice modules, job sheets, and evaluation sheets in the GMAW welding practice course. Based on the research results, the researcher can conclude that the development of teaching materials for GMAW welding practices has been implemented properly. The revised results from the experts have been applied to the modules made so that the modules can be used properly by students. © 2020 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
