In Intelligent Networks (IN), processing of services is taken out of the switches and placed (as "middleware") in separated and distributed computer nodes. Thus, "service integrators" (and not only equipment manufacturers or network operators) can design, deploy and administrate telecom processes tailored to the specific needs of targeted customers (individuals or groups). Education is centered on communications, so IN can be used to enhance learning management systems (LMS), with no space boundaries and in total compliance with community goals. Proprietary IN platforms are used mostly by telecom operators, but open source platforms, using Java APIs (e.g. Mobicents) are nowadays available for educational service creation in universities - which represents the subject of this paper.

In recent years, elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) has gained widespread exposure and acceptance, and has already been included in many security standards. engineering of ECC is a complex, interdisciplinary research field encompassing such fields as mathematics, computer science, and electrical engineering. In this paper, we survey ECC implementation issues as a prominent case study for the relatively new discipline of cryptographic engineering. In particular, we show that the requirements of efficiency and security considered at the implementation stage affect not only mere low-level, technological aspects but also, significantly, higher level choices, ranging from finite field arithmetic up to curve mathematics and protocols. © 2006 IEEE.

Domain engineering (DE) and Component-based Development (CBD) are approaches that focus on reuse. On the one hand, DE methods emphasize variability modeling in analysis phase. On the other hand, most CBD methods gude on the development of components, with a minor focus on reusability properties. Currently he serves as the Chair of the National Colloquium on Information System Security Education. Schou also directs the ISU National Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education and the ISU Technology Innovation Center. Contact Corey Schou one of the authors of this article and the Chair of the NCISSE by email at Schou@*** for help in finding additional ways to address the issues raised in this article. A member of the University of Idaho College of Engineering faculty. She graduated from the University of California at Davis. Frincke is the co-director and co-founder of the university's Center for Secure and Dependable Software (CSDS). She was the program chair for the 2nd International Workshop on Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID). A professor of Computer Science at the College of Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University in Harrisonburg Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in philosophy from the University of Houston. Reynolds is the Director of Information System Security Education at James Madison University. Since 1997 Reynolds has led the development of the first remote Internet-based curriculum that leads to an M.S. degree in computer science with a concentration in information security. Thus far 160 students have completed this program. A professor of computer information systems at Idaho State University and the manager of its Simplot Decision Support Center.

We present the use of the polysaccharide chitosan for immobilizing biomolecules on microfabricated device surfaces. The main advantages of chitosan are its abundance of primary amine groups and its ability to be electrodeposited. Biomolecules are easily attached to chitosan 's amines by standard glutaraldehyde chemistry. The electrodeposition of chitosan allows accurate spatial and temporal control of biomolecule placement. We have demonstrated this biofunctionalization method for two different bioMEMS devices: a biophotonic sensor and a micromechanical biosensor. We have successfully assembled probe DNA on each of them and detected hybridization with target DNA as a demonstration of sensor operation. Here, we briefly present the fabrication procedure and testing results for both of these bioMEMS sensing devices

This work introduces a two-dimensional modal logic to represent agents' Concurrent Common Knowledge in distributed systems. Unlike Common Knowledge, Concurrent Common Knowledge is a kind of agreement reachable in asynchronous environments. The formalization of such type of knowledge is based on a model for asynchronous systems and on the definition of Concurrent Knowledge introduced before in paper [5]. As a proper semantics, we review our concept of closed sub-product of modal logics which is based on the product of modal logics. The key idea is to reason about Concurrent Knowledge under a two-dimensional approach, regarding asynchronous runs and consistent global states as dimensions. We present an axiomatic system for the logic and issue the corresponding soundness and completeness proofs. © 2005 Oxford University Press.

Many components are usually created within a Domain engineering (DE) process. These components may exchange a great number of messages among them, and many times this interaction occurs within a specific group of components. The more messages the components exchange, the more complex the domain architecture becomes, thus compromising its understandability, maintainability and ultimately its reusability. This paper presents some elements of a components grouping technique that aims to identify and propose solutions to components coupling problems. This technique is being proposed within a domain engineering process called CBD-Arch-DE focused on component-based architectural design. © 2005 IEEE.

In recent years, there has been growing interest in Location Based Service (LBS). However, the existing LBS has some limitations in the management of dynamic location-dependent contents and interoperability between the different platforms and various domains. We have focused on how LBS applications obtain integrated, dynamic, and sensitive contents on the different domains. We approach the Semantic Web technologies to resolve these issues. In this paper, we design the architecture to combine the Semantic Web technologies with the LBS and implement the prototype to describe the Semantic LBS. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

The recent evolution of internet technologies, mainly guided by the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and its related technologies, are extending the role of the World Wide Web from information interaction to service interaction. This next wave of the internet era is being driven by a concept named Web services. The Web services technology provides the underpinning to a new business opportunity, i.e., the possibility of providing value-added Web services. However, the building of value-added services on this new environment is not a trivial task. Due to the many singularities of the Web service environment, such as the inherent structural and behavioral heterogeneity of Web services, as well as their strict autonomy, it is not possible to rely on the current models and solutions to build and coordinate compositions of Web services. In this paper, we present a framework for building reliable Web service compositions on top of heterogeneous and autonomous Web services. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2003.
