This study addresses the Testing Facility Location with Constrained Queue Time Problem. This optimization problem focuses on determining the best places to deploy testing sites and their available testers for infectious diseases, while constraining the maximum time in the queue with a given probability. An integer programming model is introduced and applied to the three biggest counties, in terms of population, of Florida, United States. Moreover, the Monte Carlo method is used to evaluate the model’s output, aiming to check if the queueing time constraint is being satisfied. Through the experiments, a testing facility deployment plan can be determined for each county and further validated by the simulation. The results show that the solutions returned by the model behaved successfully when submitted to the Monte Carlo method, not exceeding the time in the queue in more than the predefined probability. © 2024 IEEE.

Interrelated problems related to resource availability and population growth rates, such as energy demand and waste generation, have become pressing global concerns. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) poses a significant challenge due to its impact on society and the environment, including the associated hazards and threats. This study was conducted at the Piyungan Integrated Santary Landfill (TPST Piyungan) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from June to November 2022. The annual waste generation in the city is 586,267.37 tons per year in 2021, with a daily per capita waste generation rate of 0.43 kg/person. Two types of MSW samples were collected during the dry and rainy season to assess their composition. The collected samples were sorted, sun-dried, quartered, and reduced to 1mm particles for proximate analysis. The results of MSW characterization revealed that non-organic combustible materials accounted for a higher percentage during the dry season (62.7%) compared to the rainy season (53.1%). Conversely, organic matter constituted a higher proportion during the rainy season (36.7%) compared to the dry season (30.4%). The moisture content ranged from 4 to 11%, volatile matter content varied between 60% and 66%, and fixed carbon content ranged from 19 to 31%. The energy content of MSW during the dry season was measured at 20.67 MJ/kg, while in the rainy season, it yielded 14.99 MJ/kg. These findings indicate that due to the substantial energy content and waste generation rates, waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies can be effectively applied to manage MSW in Yogyakarta, simultaneously reducing waste volumes and recovering energy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the way we interact with our environment, and the smart meter is one of the most important applications of loT. This paper presents an loT-based smart meter designed to measure energy consumption accurately and detect energy theft in real-time. The system is based on the ATmega328p and uses the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module and SIM800 GSM module to establish wireless connectivity and loT functionality. The smart meter employs AC current and voltage sensors to measure true RMS of power and energy consumption. The system is designed to provide real-time energy consumption data to the utility company, enabling them to manage the power grid more efficiently. Additionally, the system can detect energy theft by comparing the energy consumption data with the expected energy consumption for a given period. The system can also send alerts to the utility company and the end-user in case of any suspicious activity. The proposed loT-based smart meter can help reduce energy wastage and improve the overall efficiency of the power grid. © 2023 IEEE.

Modern machining processes have been rapidly evolving into much more sophisticated forms. However, even with such sophistication in hand, the effect of chatter remains to be a significant problem. To date, engineers keep referring to the traditional chatter stability lobe to address the problem of limiting themselves in creativity to achieve high efficiency. The research aims to observe the vibration reduction along the boring process achieved by adding one type of DVA called Spring Radial Vibration Damper (SRVD) onto the workpiece. The workpiece is a cylindrical rod with the ratio of overhang length to a diameter at 6:1. The experiment conducted in different depths of cut (DoC) varies at 0.25 mm, 0.2 mm, and 0.15 mm. The experiment results show a comparison between the main system and without the SRVD in a graphical representation of the dynamic response, percentage of RMS reduction in each parameter, and surface finish of each parameter. This paper concludes that SRVD can be beneficial for the cutting process within the unstable area of the chatter stability lobe. It will worsen the cutting process if the parameters still lie within the stable area. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper presents a hybrid BRKGA (Q-HBRKGA) that combines BRKGA with Q-learning and a Local Branching technique to solve the Knapsack Problem with Forfeits(KPF). The aim is to tackle this problem, a vari-ant of the 0-1 Knapsack Problem, where a penalty cost is imposed when both items of a forfeit pair are included in the solution. Notably, Q-HBRKGA achieves superior results compared to existing approaches, establishing a valid strategy for KPF problem-solving. Computational experiments, utilizing benchmark instances, demonstrate the efficacy of Q-HBRKGA by outperforming state-of-the-art methods documented in the literature. © 2024 IEEE.

The purpose of this research is to present an improved project method and the results obtained in its use for the application work of the electrical machines course of an electronic engineering program of the Pedro Ruiz Gallo National University of Lambayeque in Peru. Previously, from 2013 to 2018, the project method was used, and based on these experiences, a proj ect method was prepared with greater detail of the activities and deliverables in each phase of the method, the results are better information, planning and organization by part of the students and a better evaluation by the facilitator, who acts as a referee and not as a coach as in traditional vocational training. The improved project method that has been applied in the 2019-11 semester and completed the validation in the 2023 semesters, due to the COVID 19 quarantine in the years 2020 to 2022, no real application work was carried out. In order to train professionals with new skills, vocational training must be innovated with new teaching-learning modes, such as the project method. The projects carried out in 2019-11 gave 4 very good projects: Automotive alternator as direct current generator, DC generator based on a DC motor, Construction of a windshield wiper system, Construction of a single-phase induction motor;2 good projects and 5 regular projects. © 2024 IEEE.

The matrix sensitive weaknesses of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) laminates are usually magnified by mainstream additive manufacturing (AM) methods due to the AM-process-induced voids and defects. In this paper, a novel Magnetic Compaction Force Assisted-Additive Manufacturing (MCFA-AM) method is used to print Carbon Nanofibers (CNF) Z-threaded CFRP (i.e., ZT-CFRP) composite laminates. The MCFA-AM method utilizes a magnetic force to simultaneously support, deposit, and compact Continuous Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (C-CFRP) composites in free space and quickly solidifies the CFRP part without any mold;it effectively reduces the voids. Past research proved that the zig-zag threading pattern of the CNF z-threads reinforces the interlaminar and intralaminar regions in the ZT-CFRP laminates manufactured by the traditional Out of Autoclave-Vacuum Bag Only (OOA-VBO) method, and enhances the matrix sensitive mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. In this study, the longitudinal compressive test (ASTM D695, i.e., SACMA SRM 1R-94) was performed on the MCFA-AM printed ZT-CFRP laminate. The results were compared with unaligned CNF-modified CFRP (UA-CFRP), control CFRP, and no-pressure CFRP samples' data to investigate the impact of the CNF z-threads and MCFA-AM process on the CFRP's performance. The 0.5-bar MCFA-AM printed ZT-CFRP showed comparable longitudinal compressive strength with the 1-bar OOA-VBO cured CFRP. Copyright © 2023. Used by CAMX - The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo. The aim of the research is to identify, evaluate, and measure the degree of importance of risks associated with healthcare inventory management that may impede the achievement of healthcare inventory objectives. An analytical hierarchy process model (AHP) was proposed to identify and hierarchize healthcare inventory risk factors. Thirteen risk factors were identified from literature review, and the AHP method was applied to rank those factors. The study found that financial risks are more severe than operational risks in healthcare inventory management. The top three risks identified were stock obsolescence, fraud committed by a provider, and insurance company disputes. These risks can have significant negative impacts on healthcare organizations and their ability to provide quality care to patients. Healthcare organizations should be aware of these risks and take steps to mitigate them. Identifying the most serious risks in HC inventory helps decision makers to make more informed data-driven decisions on which interventions are needed and where to invest more to mitigate risks and allocate resources to ensure that their inventory management processes are effective and efficient, thereby improving patient care and outcomes. Crawler cranes are used in various applications, including plant construction and civil engineering. However, accidents caused by hazardous events, such as overturning the entire body or overshadowing of a suspended load, can be problematic. Because crawler cranes are large and powerful machines, simulators are required to analyze the relationship between such hazardous events and human operations. This study proposed a framework for a mixed-reality simulator to analyze the interactions between humans and crawler cranes. This framework combined the high-performance graphics capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 with the high-precision multibody dynamics analysis of MATLAB Simscape to create a visually and physically realistic simulation. Moreover, the quantification of the decision-making process was possible based on the eye-tracking information of the operator. This study described the implementation of these features and discussed the prospects for human-crawler crane interaction analysis using this simulator. © 2024 IEEE.

There will be vibrations caused by friction between the rotating workpiece and the insert on the boring bar during the boring process. Vibrations that occur in the workpiece can be suppressed with a Dynamic Vibration Absorber (DVA). Therefore, the boring process produces a rough surface and damages the components of the lathe. In this research, DVA is placed on a workpiece by utilizing force damping in the radial direction and it is called as Rubber Radial Vibration Damper (RRVD) with rubber as a damping element. An analysis of the effect of RRVD addition on the vibration reduction response of the workpiece was carried out. The variations in this study are mass of RRVD (AISI 4340 and Copper Alloy), cutting parameters, and the ratio of length per diameter (L/D) of the workpiece overhang 7, 8, and 9. The simulation results showed that the main system's highest natural frequency and amplitude occurred at the L/D 7 without RRVD or with RRVD. In addition, the RRVD Copper Alloy mass variation has a lower natural frequency and amplitude than the AISI 4340. Based on this research, it was found that the most stable and well-reduced system was in the main system with L/D 8 and using RRVD Copper Alloy mass. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
