A receding horizon control framework is coupled with a Luenberger observer to construct an output-based control input stabilizing parabolic equations. The actuators and sensors are indicator functions of small subdomains, representing localized actuation and localized measurements. It is shown that, for a class of explicitly given sets of actuators and sensors, we can guarantee the stabilizing property of the constructed input. In this work, it is proven the semiglobal exponential stabilization to time-dependent trajectories of the nonisothermal Cahn–Hilliard equations. In the model, the input controls are given by explicit feedback operators that involve appropriate oblique projections. The actuators are given by a finite number of indicator functions. The results also hold for the isothermal Cahn–Hilliard system. The stabilizability of a general class of abstract parabolic-like equations is investigated, with a finite number of actuators. This class includes the case of actuators given as delta distributions located at given points in the spatial domain of concrete parabolic equations. A stabilizing feedback control operator is constructed and given in explicit form. Then, an associated optimal control is considered and the corresponding Riccati feedback is investigated. We consider a regularization concept for the solution of ill–posed operator equations, where the operator is composed of a continuous and a discontinuous operator. A particular appl.cation is level set regularization, where we develop a novel concept of minimizers. The proposed level set regularization is capable of handling changing topologies. A functional analytic framework explaining the splitting of topologies is given. Following the ever-growing demand for mobile appl.cations, researchers are constantly developing new test automation solutions for mobile developers. However, researchers have yet to produce an automated functional testing approach, resulting in many developers relying on a resource consuming manual testing. In this paper, we present a novel approach for the automation of functional testing in mobile software by leveraging machine learning techniques and reusing generic test scenarios. Our approach aims at relieving some of the manual functional testing burden by automatically classifying each of the appl.cation's screens to a set of common screen behaviors for which generic test scripts can be instantiated and reused. We empirically demonstrate the potential benefits of our approach in two experiments: First, using 26 randomly selected Android appl.cations, we show that our approach can successfully instantiate and reuse generic functional tests and discover functional bugs. Second, in a human study with two experienced human mobile testers, we show that our approach can automatically cover a large portion of the human testers' work suggesting a significant potential relief in the manual testing efforts.

We present a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio system consisting of a secondary receiver that deploys spatial multiplexing to decode signals from multiple secondary transmitters, under the presence of primary transmissions. The secondary receiver carries out minimum mean-squared error detection to decode the secondary data streams, while it performs spectrum sensing at the remaining signal to capture the potential presence of primary activity. Assuming Rayleigh fading as well as the realistic cases of channel fading time variation and channel estimation errors, we present novel closed-form expressions for important system measures, namely, the detection and false-alarm probabilities as well as the transmission power of the secondary nodes. The enclosed numerical results verify the accuracy of the presented analysis.

Clock synchronization in the order of nanoseconds is one of the critical factors for time-based localization. Currently used time synchronization methods are developed for the more relaxed needs of network operation. Their usability for positioning should be carefully evaluated. In this paper, we are particularly interested in GPS-based time synchronization. To judge its usability for localization we need a method that can evaluate the achieved time synchronization with nanosecond accuracy. Our method to evaluate the synchronization accuracy is inspired by signal processing algorithms and relies on fine-grain time information. The method is able to calculate the clock offset and skew between devices with nanosecond accuracy in real time. It was implemented using software defined radio technology. We demonstrate that GPS-based synchronization suffers from remaining clock offset in the range of a few hundred of nanoseconds but the clock skew is negligible. Finally, we determine a corresponding lower bound on the expected positioning error.

Through simulated EEG we investigate the effect of the forward model's appl.ed skull:scalp conductivity ratio on the source reconstruction performance. We show that having a higher conductivity ratio generally leads to improvement of the solution. Additionally we see a clear connection between higher conductivity ratios and lower coherence, thus a reduction of the ill-posedness of the EEG inverse problem. Finally we show on real EEG data the stability of the strongest source recovered across conductivity ratios.

Information-centric networking (ICN) is a promising approach for wireless communication because users can exploit the broadcast nature of the wireless medium to quickly find desired content at nearby nodes. However, wireless multi-hop communication is prone to collisions and it is crucial to quickly detect and react to them to optimize transmission times and avoid spurious retransmissions. Several adaptive retransmission timers have been used in related ICN literature but they have not been compared and evaluated in wireless multi-hop environments. In this work, we evaluate existing algorithms in wireless multi-hop communication. We find that existing algorithms are not optimized for wireless communication but slight modifications can result in considerably better performance without increasing the number of transmitted Interests.
