This paper presents an analysis of simultaneous temperature and electrical parameters measurements in a three phase induction motor (TIM). The electrical parameters, namely voltage and current in the motor windings, were measured with Hall effect sensors and the temperature in the stator slots were monitored using fiber Bragg grating sensors (FBG). In the performed temperature analysis, two sets of sensors were used, containing four FBG in each fiber. Eight FBG sensors were uniformly distributed in the TIM stator. A special encapsulation of the sensor was elaborated to minimize mechanical disturbances in the fiber due to motor operation. Tests were performed with motor running at no load and with intentional voltage disturbances in the windings produced at every 15 minutes periods. It was observed that the temperature distribution is not uniform in the TIM stator either with or without a balanced voltage in the windings. A mean level increase of 0.5°C in temperature was registered in all of the sensors when there is a lack of balance in the voltage windings.

The effect of back biasing on the performance of a planar tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) implemented on a silicon-on-insulator substrate is investigated. It is found that reverse back biasing reduces the subthreshold swing SS and increases the range of drain current over which SS is less than ( k B T / q ) ln (10); hence, it is effective for improving the TFET on/off current ratio for low operating voltages (≤ 0.5 V).

Background: Negated biomedical events are often ignored by text-mining applications;however, such events carry scientific significance. We report on the development of BioN∅T, a database of negated sentences that can be used to extract such negated ***: Currently BioN∅T incorporates ≈32 million negated sentences, extracted from over 336 million biomedical sentences from three resources: ≈2 million full-text biomedical articles in Elsevier and the PubMed Central, as well as ≈20 million abstracts in PubMed. We evaluated BioN∅T on three important genetic disorders: autism, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, and found that BioN∅T is able to capture negated events that may be ignored by ***: The BioN∅T database can be a useful resource for biomedical researchers. It has been a challenge to achieve high efficiency organic photovoltaics (OPV) that absorb long wavelength solar radiation without incurring unacceptable reductions in open circuit voltage (Voc) or charge separation efficiency. Based on the parent structure of the 2, 4-bis[4-(N, N-diisobutylamino)-2,6-dihydroxyphenyl] squaraine (SQ), we have increased V oc using a family of highly near-infrared absorbing SQs, achieving values as high as 0.94 V. These SQ donors are: 2, 4-bis[4-(N-Phenyl-1- naphthylamino)-2,6-dihydroxyphenyl] squaraine (1-NPSQ),2,4-bis[4-(N, N-diphenylamino)-2,6 dihydroxyphenyl] squaraine (DPSQ), 2,4-bis[4-(N, N-diphenylamino)-2,6-dihydroxyphenyl] asymmetric squaraine (DPASQ). The spin-cast SQ, 1-NPSQ, DPSQ and DPASQ donors are then coated with the acceptor C60 to form bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells that take advantage of their exceptionally high absorption coefficient and nanocrystalline morphology to overcome the short diffusion length characteristic of these materials. Combined with a high short-circuit current density (J sc=10.6 mA/cm2) and high fill factor (FF=0.64), the optimized 1-NPSQ/C60 photovoltaic cells with 1-NPSQ annealed at elevated temperature have a power conversion efficiency of ηp as high as 6.0% (correcting for solar mismatch) at 1 sun (AM 1.5G) simulated solar illumination, which to our knowledge is the highest efficiency reported to date for small molecule OPVs. © 2011 IEEE.

The idea of a Kripke semantics endowed with possibility/plausibility information is not new;in fact there are different approaches for that;see: [6], [13], [16], [19]. This paper follows the approach found in [6], but whereas [6] provides a fixed interpretation for connectives into [0,1] here we provide a characterization of a fuzzy semantics for connectives in such a way that the resulting fuzzy frames: K, T and D, are described precisely by the set of statements which also describes, respectively, the usual modal systems K, T and D. © 2011 IEEE.

Social navigation provides drivers with an advice that aims to shift traffic flows in a network from a user equilibrium to a system optimum. The advice is based on minimizing a combination of the individual travel time and the marginal total travel time in the network. The level of altruism defines the extent to which a driver is willing to sacrifice his own travel time in favor of other drivers. Fuel consumption and CO2 emission are taking into account by converting them into time equivalent. Experimental results for a small network loosely representing the Bay area show that social navigation can reduce time delays by 10%. The reduction is positively correlated with network load, market penetration and level of altruism.

The robustness of audio fingerprinting system in a noisy environment is a principal challenge in the area of content-based audio retrieval, especially for use in portable consumer devices. Our new audio fingerprint method using sub-fingerprint masking based on the predominant pitch extraction increases the accuracy of the audio fingerprinting system in a noisy environment dramatically, while requiring much less computing power compared to the expanded hash table lookup method, where the searching complexity increases by the factor of 33 times the degree of expansion. ©2010 IEEE.
