This study focuses on the design and implementation of a Real-time Vehicular Sensing System (RVSS) aimed at enhancing air quality monitoring in smart cities. By integrating advanced sensors into moving vehicles, the system captures real-time environmental data across diverse urban areas. This research addresses the limitations of static monitoring stations, offering broader geographical coverage and greater data collection flexibility. The proposed system includes low-cost components, enhanced sensor calibration, and optimized data processing algorithms to ensure accurate and reliable data. It also features real-time data transmission and a user-friendly dashboard for dynamic monitoring. The primary contribution of this study is to establish a robust foundation for an effective Vehicular Sensing system, providing valuable insights for researchers and policymakers to improve air quality management in smart cities. © 2024 IEEE.

Evaluating the Impact of Different Quantum Kernels on the Classification Performance of Support Vector Machine Algorithm: A Medical Dataset Application

The support vector machine algorithm with a quantum kernel estimator (QSVM-Kernel), as a leading example of a quantum machine learning technique, has undergone significant advancements. Nevertheless, its integration with classical data presents unique challenges. While quantum computers primarily interact with data in quantum states, embedding classical data into quantum states using feature mapping techniques is essential for leveraging quantum algorithms. Despite the recognized importance of feature mapping, its specific impact on data classification outcomes remains largely unexplored. This study addresses this gap by comprehensively assessing the effects of various feature mapping methods on classification results, taking medical data analysis as a case study. In this study, the QSVM-Kernel method was applied to classification problems in two different and publicly available medical datasets, namely, the Wisconsin Breast Cancer (original) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Glioma datasets. In the QSVM-Kernel algorithm, quantum kernel matrices obtained from 9 different quantum feature maps were used. Thus, the effects of these quantum feature maps on the classification results of the QSVM-Kernel algorithm were examined in terms of both classifier performance and total execution time. As a result, in the Wisconsin Breast Cancer (original) and TCGA Glioma datasets, when Rx and Ry rotational gates were used, respectively, as feature maps in the QSVM-Kernel algorithm, the best classification performances were achieved both in terms of classification performance and total execution time. The contributions of this study are that (1) it highlights the significant impact of feature mapping techniques on medical data classification outcomes using the QSVM-Kernel algorithm, and (2) it also guides undertaking research for improved QSVM classification performance. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Coral-like structures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) compound were synthesized using the sol-gel method. Structural investigation certified the YIG cubic crystal structure formation, without any secondary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic radius of the dopant cations results in an expansion of the lattice parameter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc-O bond distances and decrease in the average crystallite size. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and Raman measurements are essential to testify the single-phase formation of YIG crystal structure and are observed changes in the stretching and vibrational modes, respectively. The morphological study, energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) spectra and textural properties show corallike structures, peaks associated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atoms and the effect of dopants on surface area,diameter, and pore volume, respectively. The optical analysis from diffuse reflectance spectra witnessed an increase in the optical gap band, a decrease in Urbach energy and blue shift in the charge transfer,correlated with the expansion of the unit cell due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG structure. A typical ferrimagnetic behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)compound. The saturation magnetization(M_(s)), cubic anisotropy constant(K_(1)) and coercive field(H_(c)) increase with the Pr^(3+)cations content, as consequence of their magnetic nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the coexistence with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first time, antibacterial tests by mean of the direct contact method were performed for YIG co-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) cations favored the activity against S. aureus, therefore, a new biological property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.

The Impact of Clinical Decision Support on Health Disparities and the Digital Divide

OBJECTIVES: This literature review summarizes relevant studies from the last three years (2020-2022) related to clinical decision support (CDS) and CDS impact on health disparities and the digital divide. This survey identifies current trends and synthesizes evidence-based recommendations and considerations for future development and implementation of CDS tools. METHODS: We conducted a search in PubMed for literature published between 2020 and 2022. Our search strategy was constructed as a combination of the MEDLINE®/PubMed® Health Disparities and Minority Health Search Strategy and relevant CDS MeSH terms and phrases. We then extracted relevant data from the studies, including priority population when applicable, domain of influence on the disparity being addressed, and the type of CDS being used. We also made note of when a study discussed the digital divide in some capacity and organized the comments into general themes through group discussion. RESULTS: Our search yielded 520 studies, with 45 included at the conclusion of screening. The most frequent CDS type in this review was point-of-care alerts/reminders (33.3%). Health Care System was the most frequent domain of influence (71.1%), and Blacks/African Americans were the most frequently included priority population (42.2%). Throughout the literature, we found four general themes related to the technology divide: inaccessibility of technology, access to care, trust of technology, and technology *** survey revealed the diversity of CDS being used to address health disparities and several barriers which may make CDS less effective or potentially harmful to certain populations. Regular examinations of literature that feature CDS and address health disparities can help to reveal new strategies and patterns for improving healthcare. IMIA and Thieme. Sasirangan cloth is one of the traditional cloths owned by Indonesia and is a typical cloth originating from the province of South Kalimantan. This Sasirangan cloth has many motifs and is unique. Sasirangan cloth is also one of the potentials that can attract local and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan. However, in recent years, tourist visits to South Kalimantan have decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it also has an impact on the delay in the implementation of the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival which is usually held annually. The next impact is a decrease in turnover and interest in shopping for Sasirangan cloth, so that employees who work for Sasirangan cloth craftsmen are dismissed and reduce people's income. So the purpose of this study is to report the results of the development of a Virtual Reality Game application called VR-SasiranganKu by integrating the interaction of Non-Player Character (NPC) behavior with the type of narrative in the simulation genre game. VR-SasiranganKu is recommended to introduce and at the same time promote Sasirangan cloth to users, then justify the reaction to knowledge and shopping experience, and evaluate user experience using the UX Honeycomb method. Respondents involved as many as 100 people who are local and national tourists. The results show that the interaction of NPC behavior can provide good direction to users regarding the introduction of Sasirangan cloth by presenting an appropriate interaction design based on the narrative and the theme of the NPC that has been adopted, the results of justification using VR-SasiranganKu can provide knowledge reaction and very good shopping experience, and based on user experience evaluation that VR-SasiranganKu has adopted a very good UX with an average score of 4.91. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents an event-driven cloud-based serverless architecture for a remote patient monitoring system. The architecture is designed to be scalable, resilient, and cost-effective, and leverages managed cloud services to handle load variations and service faults. To evaluate the architecture, we conducted comprehensive capacity, scalability, and resilience tests. The test results show that the architecture can meet the performance, scalability, and reliability requirements of a remote patient monitoring system. Additionally, a detailed analysis of operational costs in the cloud confirms the cost-effectiveness of the solution and highlights practical opportunities for improvements.

A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FRCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

In 2021, a prominent Austria dairy producer suffered from an IT attack and was completely paralysed. Without clearly defined mitigation measures in place, major disruptions were caused alongside the whole supply chain, including logistics service providers, governmental food safety bodies, as well as retailers (i.e., supermarkets and convenience stores). In this paper, we ask the question how digitisation and digital transformation impact IT security, especially when considering the complex company ecosystems of food production and food supply chains in Austria. The problem statement stems from a gap in knowledge of key differences in approaches towards IT security, resilience, risk management and especially business interfaces between food suppliers, supermarkets, distributors, logistics and other service providers. In order to answer related research questions, firstly, the authors conduct literature research, and highlight common guidelines and standardisation as well as look at state-based recommendations for critical infrastructure. In a second step, the paper describes a quantitative and qualitative survey with Austrian food companies (producers and retailers) which is described in detail in the paper. A description of recommended measures for the industry, further steps, as well as an outlook conclude the paper. (Abstract)

Human hearing is an important sense, which complements the other senses, and is essential for children to begin to acquire basic concepts of the world;however, in severe cases of disability, children become marginalized from these benefits. An example of this is with music, a deaf individual is to be able to perceive it. With this in mind, we developed a novel medical expert system based on virtual reality, called Toc-Tum mini-games, applying basic concepts of music in an accessible way to the deaf culture. The intelligent proposed system is validated in two different tests: (a) with the target audience to evaluate the interest in the game and (b) with professionals knowledgeable in the field of music or who have had contact with the deaf, evaluate the impact of the game teaching music to the deaf. The tests with the target audience showed that the methods of interaction allowed the children to understand most of the stages and that they were animated during the test days. Regarding the professionals, they were interested in the possibility of using the proposed system in question, even if some modifications in the design had to be made. The results showed that the Toc-Tum mini-games is an intelligent tool capable of introducing music in a playful and manageable way using a virtual environment. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Equipment monitoring for failure prediction is receiving attention from different sectors of society, such as industry, healthcare, and defense. In the defense domain, assets like military vehicles generate data that one can use to identify behavior changes and anticipate possible real-time failures, avoiding unnecessary maintenance interventions. Failure anticipation is crucial, as assets operated in the military domain perform critical tasks in which unexpected equipment failures result in high material and human costs. Approaches found in the literature typically deal with failure generation, aiming at analyzing the equipment's behavior. This paper proposes a broader approach called MILPdM. This proposal is a failure prediction architecture covering the whole failure prediction and predictive maintenance procedures. We evaluate MILPdM architecture by analyzing an engine-failure scenario where we train models to predict time series by collecting vibration data that describes the degradation of the vehicle's health. Considering the implementation of an LSTM-based neural network and Random Forest, the acquired results lead to a root mean square error of 0.15015 in the best case, which allows to predict the failure status two minutes in advance with only 3 hours of data history. This result shows that MILPdM is capable of anticipating failures with high assertiveness. © 2023 IEEE.
