Today it is very common for software systems to be built by teams located in more than one country. For example, a project team may be located in the US while the team lead resides in Sweden. How then should students be trained for this kind of work? Senior design or capstone projects offer students real-world hands-on experience but rarely while working internationally. One reason is that most instructors do not have international business contacts that allow them to find project sponsors in other countries. Another reason is the fear of having to invest a huge amount of time managing an international project. In this paper we present the general concepts related to "International Capstone Project Exchanges", the basic model behind the exchanges (student teams are led by an industry sponsor residing in a different country) and several alternate models that have been used in practice. We will give examples from projects in the US, Germany, Sweden, Australia, and Colombia. We have extended the model beyond software projects to include engineering projects as well as marketing, and journalism. We conclude with a description of an International Capstone Project Exchange website that we have developed to aid any university in establishing their own international project exchange.

Information-centric networking (ICN) is a promising approach for wireless communication because users can exploit the broadcast nature of the wireless medium to quickly find desired content at nearby nodes. However, wireless multi-hop communication is prone to collisions and it is crucial to quickly detect and react to them to optimize transmission times and avoid spurious retransmissions. Several adaptive retransmission timers have been used in related ICN literature but they have not been compared and evaluated in wireless multi-hop environments. In this work, we evaluate existing algorithms in wireless multi-hop communication. We find that existing algorithms are not optimized for wireless communication but slight modifications can result in considerably better performance without increasing the number of transmitted Interests.

This paper attempts to give a hardware based practical overview about cheating prevention of information hiding technique using Steganography and Visual Cryptographic Schemes (VCS). A combined technique have been proposed here, which allows visual information (e.g. printed text, handwritten notes, and images) to be distributed into 'n' secret shares as transparencies and embedding message into share became stego share for share authentication. Finally each of these stego shares embeds into a cover image using hardware module. At the time of recovering the receiver first decode each stego shares from the cover work than extract secret message from share to prevent cheating. The original secret message can be retrieve by overlapping the shares. The proposed encoding and decoding scheme for share generation is implemented in software module and embedding of message into share and stego share into cover image are implemented in hardware-based system for 2-D images.

We describe an algorithm for segmenting three-dimensional medical imaging data modeled as a continuous function on a 3-manifold. It is related to watershed algorithms developed in image processing but is closer to its math.matical roots, which are Morse theory and homological algebra. It allows for the implicit treatment of an underlying mesh, thus combining the structural integrity of its math.matical foundations with the comput.tional efficiency of image processing.

Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, the anti-synchronization between hyperchaotic Lorenz-Stenflo (LS) system and hyperchaotic Chen system with fully unknown parameters is investigated. An adaptive control law is derived for the case when the parameters of the drive and response systems to be synchronized are fully uncertain. Numerical simulation results are performed to show the effectiveness of the techniques.

In this paper, we establish the exploitation of continuous harvest of predator and prey with stage-structures. We investigate the properties of harvesting multispecies systems. With some special methods, we obtain boundedness and global attractiveness of all the nonnegative equilibria for proportional harvest. Finally, we solve the problem of optimal harvest policy using Pontragin＇s maximal principle.

The UNICORE grid system provides a seamless, secure and intuitive access to distributed grid resources. In recent years, UNICORE 5 is used as a well-tested grid middleware system in production grids (e.g. DEISA, D-Grid) and at many supercomput.r centers world-wide. Beyond this production usage, UNICORE serves as a solid basis in many European and International research projects and business scenarios from T-Systems, Philips Research, Intel, Fujitsu and others. To foster ongoing developments in multiple projects, UNICORE is open source under BSD license at SourceForge. More recently, the new Web services-based UNICORE 6 has become available that is based on open standards such as the Web services addressing (WS-A) and the Web services resource framework (WS-RF) and thus conforms to the open grid services architecture (OGSA) of the open grid forum (OGF). In this paper we present the evolution from production UNICORE 5 to the open standards-based UNICORE 6 and its various Web services-based interfaces. It describes the interface integration of emerging open standards such as OGSA-BES and OGSA-RUS and thus provides an overview of UNICORE 6.

Superresolution reconstruction produces a high resolution image from a set of low resolution images. Previous work on superresolution had not adequately addressed the comput.tional issues for this problem. In this paper, we propose efficient block circulant preconditioners for solving the regularized superresolution problem by conjugate gradients. The effectiveness of the preconditioners is demonstrated with superresolution results for a simulated image sequence and a FLIR image sequence.
