Vibratory Impact of 3 Different Ambulance Suspension Systems on the Simulated Neonate and Health Care Provider During Normal Driving Conditions

Objective: Patients and health care providers experience varying degrees of vibration during interfacility ground transport. The impact of vibration on term and preterm neonates may result in physiologic instability and increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage, whereas the impact on health care providers has been shown to include an increase in perceived and physiologic stress levels and may contribute to chronic back and neck pain. This study aimed to evaluate 3 common ambulance suspension systems and the corresponding vibratory impact produced during typical interfacility driving conditions on adult caregiver and neonatal patient mannequins. Methods: Type 3 ambulances with air, liquid, and traditional suspensions were evaluated using various driving tests to simulate typical road conditions. Vibrations were measured using triaxial accelerometers placed on the chassis, upon the head of a seated caregiver mannequin in the ambulance bench seat, and the head of a neonatal mannequin supine and secured in an isolette. Data analysis included the average vibration frequency, root mean square values, and maximum vibration amplitudes. Results: The results showed that the supine neonatal mannequin experienced the highest vibration frequency and amplitude in the vertical (x) direction, whereas the adult caregiver mannequin experienced higher vibration frequencies in both parallel (y) and lateral (z) directions and the highest vibration amplitude in the y direction. The liquid suspension system consistently demonstrated the lowest vibration levels in all driving conditions and directions, whereas traditional suspension had the highest values. Conclusion: This study provides important insights into the vibrations incurred by simulated neonatal patients and health care providers during ambulance transport. As individuals age, the brain undergoes structural, functional and connectivity changes. Brain activity and anatomy do not always correspond, then evolving differently. In this regard, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) for brain parcellation proves advantageous in studying brain function with a comprehensive and flexible approach that spans across all stages of life. We proposed a method based on ICA that estimates coherent anatomical networks based on functional connectivity patterns. Clinical Relevance - The analysis of brain function across various age groups will aid in the investigation of conditions or pathologies related to alterations in functional connectivity, such as autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimers disease, major depressive disorder and epilepsy © 2023 IEEE.

Brazil is among the 30 countries with the highest tuberculosis prevalence, and many studies are trying to understand and fight the harmful outcomes of this disease. In that sense, the following project proposes the development of a mobile application prototype that centralizes diagnosis aid tools for tuberculosis, making the process more transparent for the patient, using the Single Patient Application (SPA) concept. The application was built based on JavaScript and the frameworks chosen were Vue Framework along with Framework7 due to its focus on interface components. Communication with the back-end was done through AJAX calls. As a result, a prototype was built with the five main screens that the user will interact with: authentication/login screen, home screen, list of available algorithms, outcomes algorithm home screen and patient history. The interface design is expected to facilitate the planning of other application areas and contribute to defining business rules. Once implemented on the server side, these rules can support an organized, patient-centered tuberculosis database. © 2024 The Author(s).

The proposed study proves the option to have a different treatment displayed on quantitative and qualitative parameters of kinematics and pain tests, by experiments with mice groups during walk and mobility analysis with kinematics parameters and pain sensation using Von Frey filaments in acute osteoarthritis knee (AOAK) model. This would allow us to have enough information to recommend or not recommend a new based treatment that can be compared to another successful treatment for osteoarthritis. Clinical Relevance - Therefore, with this study it is proposed to be able to analyze different compounds from opioids, steroids, and non-steroid anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like cannabinoid components, avoiding with that the dependance pathology and renal damage in patients treated with one of this kind of common treatments and thus be able to determine their viability on a in vivo model to recommend their study in instances closer to a clinical model. © 2023 IEEE.

A challenge in wearable technology lies in the realtime monitoring of molecular biomarkers associated with human health. Electrochemical sensors are one of the most useful tools for this purpose and are commonly used in health monitoring devices. Electrochemical biosensing is particularly convenient when used in user-friendly, low-cost devices for testing noninvasive body fluids such as sweat and saliva. However, achieving high selectivity and specificity in measurements depends on the complexity of the biomarker and the stability of the biomarker capture molecule. In this study, laser-scribed electrodes (LSEs) were manufactured using a CO2 laser cutter on Polyimide for the label-free classification of sweat components. Cyclic voltammetry experiments were performed on artificial human sweat and the sweat component L-Histidine. The resulting voltammogram data served as input to train a Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP-NN) algorithm capable of classifying L-Histidine and artificial sweat. © 2024 IEEE.

Wounds, characterized by the disruption of the continuity of body tissues resulting from external trauma,manifest in diverse types and locations. Although numerous wound dressings are available for various woundscenarios, it remains challenging to find an integrative wound dressing capable of addressing diverse woundsituations. We focused on utilizing sulfated hyaluronan (sHA), known for its anti-inflammatory properties andcapacity to load cationic drugs. By conjugating catechol groups to sHA (sHA-CA), we achieved several advantagesin wound healing: 1) Fabrication of patches through crosslinking with catechol-modified high-molecularweighthyaluronan (HA(HMW)-CA), 2) Adhesiveness that enabled stable localization, 3) Radical scavenging thatcould synergize with the immunomodulation of sHA. The sHA-CA patches demonstrated therapeutic efficacy inthree distinct murine wound models: diabetic wound, hepatic hemorrhage, and post-surgical adhesion. Collectively,these findings underscore the potential of the sHA-CA patch as a promising candidate for the nextgenerationwound dressing.

Cataracts are a frequent cause of blindness in canines, and their timely diagnosis and treatment are crucial to preserve the animal's quality of life. Although surgery is the primary treatment, its success depends on the surgeon's skill; the extracapsular extraction technique, one of the most commonly used, presents intraoperative complications since cadaver training does not adequately replicate the ocular biomechanical properties. A simulator prototype has been developed for the training of this technique, which allows realistic practices and improves professional competence. The development involved the characterization of the eye and the surgical technique using a bibliographic and experimental review, as well as a biomechanical analysis of the eye considering the forces generated by the extraocular muscles and the force required for the initial incision in the sclera (2.36 N), which an electronic system will measure during the procedure. In the design stage, CAD tools, 3D printing, and casting techniques were used to obtain the parts that simulate the tissues, the mesocephalic head of the canine, and strain gauges were used to measure the force set using a Wheatstone bridge. A first evaluation showed improvements in terms of size and arrangement of the interchangeable parts.
