This research paper examined the connectedness of STEM faculty to others both within and across academic departments who might be potential resources for diffusion of Learner-centered practices, and the impact of participants' social networks on their Learner-centered beliefs and practices. The research question under investigation was: To what extent is the degree of social connectedness among faculty within and among STEM departments related to the degree of implementation of Learner-centered practices? Participants were recruited from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics departments, and from departments in the College of Engineering. The sample began with 21 randomly-selected faculty from each department engaged in the STEM instruction of first and second year engineering students. The second level consisted of the colleagues identified by the first level as people they utilize as resources for improving their instruction. The connectedness of faculty in the network was examined using network analysis, focusing on both number of connections, and depth of connections. Attitude and Observation Protocol measures were used as outcomes. Results show that faculty classified as Learner-Centered had deeper and more extensive social networks. Results are discussed in terms of the need for intra- and inter-departmental faculty professional development experiences that both introduce and encourage faculty to trial new tools and techniques, but that also run for the longterm, supporting collaborative organizations of faculty working together to transform early engineering experiences. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2016.

Animations of American Sign Language (ASL) can make information accessible for many signers with lower levels of English literacy. Automatically synthesizing such animations is challenging because the movements of ASL signs often depend on the context in which they appear, e.g., many ASL verb movements depend on locations in the signing space the signer has associated with the verb s subject and object. This paper presents several techniques for automatically synthesizing novel instances of ASL verbs whose motion-path and hand-orientation must accurately reflect the subject and object locations in 3D space, including enhancements to to prior state-of-The-Art models. Using these models, animation generation software could produce an infinite variety of indicating verb instances. Using a corpus of motion-capture recordings of multiple performances of eight ASL indicating verbs, we modeled the signer s hand locations and orientations during each verb, dependent upon the location in the signing space where the subject and object were positioned. In a user study, ASL signers watched animations that included verbs synthesized from these models, and we found that they had similar quality to those produced by a human animator. © SLPAT 2015 - 6th Workshop on Speech and Language Processing for Assistive Technologies, Proceedings.

Advancing the automatic synthesis of linguistically accurate and natural-looking American Sign Language (ASL) animations from an easy-To-update script would increase information accessibility for many people who are deaf by facilitating more ASL content to websites and media. We are investigating the production of ASL grammatical facial expressions and head movements coordinated with the manual signs that are crucial for the interpretation of signed sentences. It would be useful for researchers to have an automatic scoring algorithm that could be used to rate the similarity of two animation sequences of ASL facial movements (or an animation sequence and a motioncapture recording of a human signer). We present a novel, sign-language specific similarity scoring algorithm, based on Dynamic Time Warping (DTW), for facial expression performances and the results of a user-study in which the predictions of this algorithm were compared to the judgments of ASL signers. We found that our algorithm had significant correlations with participants comprehension scores for the animations and the degree to which they reported noticing specific facial expressions. © SLPAT 2015 - 6th Workshop on Speech and Language Processing for Assistive Technologies, Proceedings.

The purpose of this research is to know how influence of mixture of pertamax with Tuak Nias (Tuonifaro) to fuel consumption at 125 cc engine To prove that Tuak Nias or Tuonifaro can be used as fuel mixture on motorcycle and examine how big influence of mix between Tuak Nias or Tuonifaro with Pertamax, conducting research by literature study method or literature study. Many authors use various supporting / input factors and supporting books related to the titles discussed. because Tuak Nias or tuonifaro contain low 4-5% ethanonic elements and contain 90% alcoholic elements so that the fuel easily burns easily in the combustion chamber and produces great power. The research aims to build software that can perform the classification of earth image from UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) monitoring. The Image converted into YUV format then classified using Fuzzy Support Vector Machine (FSVM). UAVs will be used for monitoring as follows: (1) the control station, which used to send or receive data, and display the data in graphical form, (2) payload, camera captured images and send to the control station, (3) communication system using TCP/IP protocol, and (4) UAV, using X650 quad copter products. The image of the monitoring carried out on the UAV sized 256 x 256 pixels with 450 training data. It is 16x16 pixel image data. Tests performed to classify the image into 3 classes, namely agricultural area, residential area, and water area. The highest accuracy value of 77.69% obtained by the number of training data as much as 375. © 2015 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.

In the present work, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles have been investigated for monitoring ethanol (C2H5OH) at ppm levels in air. A one-step flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) process has been applied for the synthesis of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and platinum-loaded vanadium pentoxide (Pt-V2O5) nanoparticles. The samples have been studied to characterize their morphological and microstructural properties by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Pt addition to V2O5 samples were verified by energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry mode. The specific surface area of the nanoparticles was measured by nitrogen adsorption method. The application of the produced nanoparticles as sensitive and selective ethanol resistive sensor has been demonstrated. The Pt-loaded V2O5 sensor has shown higher response towards ethanol at ppm-level concentrations compared to unloaded one. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper proposes a learning model for taking-decision problems using intelligent agents technologies combined with instance-based machine learning techniques. Our learning model is applied to a real case to support the daily decisions of a poultry farmer. The agent of the system is used to generate action policies, in order to control a set of factors in the daily activities, such as food-meat conversion, amount of food to be consumed, time to rest, weight gain, comfort temperature, water and energy to be consumed, etc. The perception of the agent is ensured by a set of sensors scattered by the physical structure of the poultry. The principal role of the agent is to perform a set of actions in a way to consider aspects such as productivity and profitability without compromising bird welfare. Experimental results have shown that, for the decision-taking process in poultry farming, our model is sound, advantageous and can substantially improve the agent actions in comparison with equivalent decision when taken by a human specialist.
