In this paper we present the use of participatory design in a public health management system, called PRONTO, that is being developed in Brazil. This system involves a partnership between the city hall and the University of Blumenau and it is being developed by the Development Laboratory and Transfer of technology. The project involves a health network with 64 units of family health, 8 ambulatories and 1 polyclinic. The paper describes the experience in the project phase of the Multidisciplinary Treatment System module and presents the obtained results.

Continuum methods offer a high-fidelity means of simulating plasma kinetics. While computationally intensive, these methods are advantageous because they can be cast in conservation-law form, are not susceptible to noise, and can be implemented using high-order numerical methods. Advances in continuum method capabilities for modeling kinetic phenomena in plasmas require the development of validation tools in higher dimensional phase space and an ability to handle non-cartesian geometries. To that end, a new benchmark for validating Vlasov-Poisson simulations in 3D (x,vx,vy) is presented [1]. The benchmark is based on the Dory-Guest-Harris instability and is successfully used to validate a continuum finite volume algorithm. To address challenges associated with non-cartesian geometries, unique features of cylindrical phase space coordinates are described. Preliminary results of continuum kinetic simulations in 4D (r,z,vr,vz) phase space are presented.

Heart rate variability (HRV) is known to be one of the representative ECG-derived features that are useful for diverse pervasive healthcare applications. The advancement in daily physiological monitoring technology is enabling monitoring of HRV in people's everyday lives. In this study, we evaluate the feasibility of measuring ECG-derived features such as HRV, only using the smartphone-integrated ECG sensors system named Sinabro. We conducted the evaluation with 13 subjects in five predetermined smartphone use cases. The result shows the potential that the smartphone-based sensing system can support daily monitoring of ECG-derived features;The average errors of HRV over all participants ranged from 1.65% to 5.83% (SD: 2.54~10.87) for five use cases. Also, all of individual HRV parameters showed less than 5% of average errors for the three reliable cases.

It is an urgent need to find an objective way to estimate the degree of fatigue of employees. In this study, we designed a monitoring and estimation system for the degree of fatigue. This paper explains a long-term pedaling experiment that we use it to explore the possibility to use only the time sequence data of head movement during pedaling to estimate the fatigue. While we show the possibility for this through experimental data, it is clear that we need to collect more data to establish an estimation method.

Banana peel and biodiesel derived glycerol are one of the most abundant agricultural waste in Southeast Asian countries. This current research demonstrated potential biomethane production from co-digestion of agricultural wastes under mesophilic fermentation. The wastes used include (1) banana peel (varying total solids in the range 2.5-10% w/v) and (2) Banana peel mixed with pure or waste glycerol. All treatments were setup in duplicate in 0.5 L batch reacotr. Gas and liquid samples were collected every 12 and 24 hr, respectively. Maximum methane production potential and yield were 181 mL and 188 mL g -1 TS at 7.5% banana peel. The maximum methane production potential and yield of 7.5% banana peel mixed with 7.5 g L -1 pure glycerol (in the presence of buffer) were 467 mL and 151 mL g -1 COD, respectively, while those of 7.5% banana peel mixed with 7.5 g L -1 waste glycerol (in the presence of buffer) were 652 mL and 281 mL g -1 COD, respectively. Small amount of VFAs and ethanol was accumulated in the reactor content. The current findings indicate the potential use of glycerol waste as a co-substrate in biomethane production.
