Based on WHO’s data, breast cancer is one of the most deadly diseases that has claimed many victims, especially women. This disease begins with the presence of an undetected and eventually turns into malignant (cancer). This happens due to ignorance of the importance of having a medical check-up even though in good health. Doctors and researchers can prevent the development of tumor cells through treatment that begins with radiological examinations to identify the possibility of a person being affected by this disease. One of the most frequently used techniques is Mammography. This technique can detect the presence of tumor cells using advanced technology and several methods in displaying the patient’s diagnostic results on low-dose X-rays in the form of mammogram images. The technology is inseparable from the methods used to identify the presence of tumor cells. In this study, we have proposed the CNN method based on the deep-CNN model to identify mammogram images in the detection of breast cancer cells with average evaluation results in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, specificity, and f-measure on mammogram image datasets of 99.52%, 99.72%, 99.31%, 99.72%, and 99.5%. These results showed that this method has a good performance in breast cancer detection.

This paper presents a fast intra mode decision solution for the VVC standard using machine learning. The idea is to reorder the evaluation of modes performed by the Rate-Distortion Optimization (RDO) process according to the modes occurrence rate. Based on the new evaluation order, three Decision Tree models were trained to skip the modes less likely to be chosen. The results show that the proposed solution achieves time savings of up to 15.57% with coding efficiency degradation of only 0.41% on average. When compared with related works, the proposed solution shows competitive results.

Question answering (QA) in Egyptian history presents a unique and complex challenge for Arabic natural language processing (NLP). This study aims to explore and assess how large language models (LLMs) can enhance the accuracy and performance of Arabic question answering (QA), specifically in this domain. To conduct this investigation, we utilize two comprehensive datasets: the Arabic History-QA dataset and the Contextual Articles Dataset, which cover pivotal historical periods. We evaluate transformer-based models, including AraBERTv2, BERT-large-Arabic with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), fine-tuned LLaMa-2, and zero-shot LLaMa-3 with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Through a rigorous and detailed evaluation process, we analyze how these models address various questions related to Egyptian history. This research contributes valuable insights into advancing the capabilities of Arabic NLP in specialized domains such as historical question answering. Our best results, summarized as the superiority of LLMs, beat those with transformers; additionally, the RAG significantly raised the performance level overall.

Pet owners experience difficulty in understanding their pets' body language and its implications for animal welfare, given that animals cannot utilize human speech to communicate their emotions and health conditions. However, previous experiments for analyzing cat behavior have demonstrated that cats are precisely expressive. DeepCat, a deep-learning approach developed in this study, translates cats' body language signals, enabling owners to discern their feline companions' intended messages and emotional states. Our DeepCat model was trained on a dataset comprising 10,000 cat images, implementing automatic labeling to track key features, including the tail, eyes, and mouth. Presented as a Flutter application, DeepCat can function everywhere, allowing owners to easily monitor their cats and make informed decisions in situations that require caution. This paper discusses the potential benefits and limitations of DeepCat and provides suggestions for future research in this domain.

In this paper we consider the filtering of partially observed multi-dimensional diffusion processes that are observed regularly at discrete times. This is a challenging problem which requires the use of advanced numerical schemes based upon time-discretization of the diffusion process and then the application of particle filters. Perhaps the state-of-the-art method for moderate dimensional problems is the multilevel particle filter of [12]. This is a method that combines multilevel Monte Carlo and particle filters. The approach in that article is based intrinsically upon an Euler discretization method. We develop a new particle filter based upon the antithetic truncated Milstein scheme of [10]. We show that for a class of diffusion problems, for ϵ > 0 given, that the cost to produce a mean square error (MSE) in estimation of the filter, of O(ϵ2) is O(ϵ−2 log(ϵ)2). In the case of multidimensional diffusions with non-constant diffusion coefficient, the method of [12] has a cost of O(ϵ−2.5) to achieve the same MSE. Pristine van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures formed between two-dimensional (2D) and other materials can be used to create optical and electronic devices. However, the weak vdW forces alone do not allow direct physical stacking of arbitrary layers. As a result, vdW heterostructure fabrication typically requires solvents, sacrificial layers or high temperatures, which can introduce damage and contaminants. Here, we show that adhesive matrix transfer can eliminate these limitations and can provide vdW integration beyond the limits of vdW forces. In the approach, a hybrid high- and low-adhesion surface is used to decouple the forces driving the transfer from the vdW forces defining the heterostructure of interest. We show that the technique can be used to achieve direct vdW integration of diverse 2D materials (MoS2, WSe2, PtS2 and GaS) with dielectrics (SiO2 and Al2O3), which is conventionally forbidden but critical for active devices and scalable, aligned heterostructure formation. The approach also allows single-step 2D material-to-device integration, which we illustrate by fabricating arrays of monolayer MoS2 transistors. As any exposure to solvents or polymers is avoided, the interfaces and surfaces remain pristine. Thus, intrinsic 2D material properties can be probed without the influence of processing steps. The materials can be further engineered through surface treatments and used to fabricate unconventional device form factors. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited.

Innovative safety in the workplace is vital as the high safety risks associated with electrical engineering construction can lead to injuries or even fatalities. Using computer vision technology, we experimented with scenarios such as “normal operations” and “unexpected incidents” to enhance safety measures. We integrated an Internet of Things system into the setup, enabling the system to quickly detect and alert to unexpected events in real-time, thereby improving workplace safety.

Robots have become increasingly important in a variety of life domains as a result of the rapid advancement of technology. Additionally, robots are employed in education as teaching assistants in science, art, and language courses. This research aims to explore the potential of robotic systems as a multipurpose tool for increasing cultural awareness, language proficiency, and communicative competence in the GenAI era. Language games, conversation simulations, and real-time feedback mechanisms are just a few examples of interactive scenarios enabled by virtual robot systems or tutor robots that enable immersive language experiences that go beyond the limitations of conventional schooling. This research contributes knowledge that explores how AI can be used to personalize language teaching according to the needs and learning styles of each student in higher education. The total population of undergraduate students involved in this research was 350 for the 2023 academic year, with 24 students selected purposefully based on sample characteristics from this group who were exposed to using AI for one semester. The research method used is a mix method with quantitative analysis of the results of surveys and interviews with students who are known to have given positive responses and proposes a comprehensive strategy for using AI robot technology in EFL classrooms, which can significantly improve effective learning outcomes. The survey results also show that if educators have a solid understanding of the relationship between linguistic acquisition and technological advances, they will be better prepared to design engaging, individualized lessons that prepare their students to use the language effectively in real-world contexts. The robot-assisted language learning (RALL) approach used in this study, with the integration of robots in the classroom, has the potential to change the way people learn languages to make it more interesting, fun, and motivating, increase engagement

Anomaly detection from images captured using camera sensors is one of the mainstream applications at the industrial level. Particularly, it maintains the quality and optimizes the efficiency in production processes across diverse industrial tasks, including advanced manufacturing and aerospace engineering. Traditional anomaly detection workflow is based on a manual inspection by human operators, which is a tedious task. Advances in intelligent automated inspection systems have revolutionized the Industrial Anomaly Detection (IAD) process. Recent vision-based approaches can automatically extract, process, and interpret features using computer vision and align with the goals of automation in industrial operations. In light of the shift in inspection methodologies, this survey reviews studies published since 2019, with a specific focus on vision-based anomaly detection. The components of an IAD pipeline that are overlooked in existing surveys are presented, including areas related to data acquisition, preprocessing, learning mechanisms, and evaluation. In addition to the collected publications, several scientific and industry-related challenges and their perspective solutions are highlighted. Popular and relevant industrial datasets are also summarized, providing further insight into inspection applications. Finally, future directions of vision-based IAD are discussed, offering researchers insight into the state-of-the-art of industrial inspection. © 2025, CC BY.
