Systematic literature review: Accelerate the rice production for global food security

By 2050, about 70% of extra food production is needed to feed the world's population. As a majority staple food, the expansion of rice production should be accelerated. This systematic literature review aims to discover the factors that influence rice yields through a methodology that is partitioned into four main stages, i.e., query entry into multiple database sources, article title filtering, abstract filtering, and final article selection. The results show that genetics, irrigation system management, and farmers’ long-evolved local knowledge or experiences are the three big factors that elevate the rice production rates. Nevertheless, global warming is a serious challenge that should be deeply considered due to its great impact on reducing rice yields by up to 14.5%. Thus, the development of genetically modified rice varieties needs to be escalated while still maintaining other exogenous factors. This study contributes to providing a broader perspective for decision-makers and other relevant experts to accelerate rice production to achieve global food security.

Dynamically encircling exceptional points (EPs) have unveiled intriguing chiral dynamics in photonics. However, the traditional approach based on an open manifold of Hamiltonian parameter space fails to explore trajectories that pass through an infinite boundary. Here, by mapping the full parameter space onto a closed manifold of the Riemann sphere, we introduce a framework to describe encircling-EP loops. We demonstrate that an encircling trajectory crossing the north vertex can realize near-unity asymmetric transmission. An efficient gain-free, broadband asymmetric polarization-locked device is realized by mapping the encircling path onto L-shaped silicon waveguides.

In this era of digital world information, farmers face challenges about information management of huge data and the complexity of processes in precision farming. The data collection carried out so far can cause several difficulties, especially if the data is needed by the government or academics to support decision-making. Agricultural data collection applications only cover 12% of the market share of Android-based agriculture-based applications. In this study, Tani Milenial application is present as an alternative to support agricultural data collection activities in Indonesia. This application encourages farmers to be active and contribute independently to their role as subjects of agricultural development and is accustomed to digitally recording their agricultural activities. In this developed application system, the community, especially farmers and farmer groups, will find it easier to get information about agricultural potential data around where they carry out agricultural activities and can access this information online. Tani Milenial works as a guide to help farmers and transform agriculture but still have some gaps which should be checked and removed. The data collected can be used by various parties for research and decision-making. The app can be further improved to develop new features related to education, market information, and goods.

Sugarcane plantations in Indonesia are still managed in a labor-intensive manner, especially plantation-owned by farmers. Labor intensive means that every stage of work in sugarcane plantation management still uses manpower. One of the jobs in sugarcane plantations that requires a lot of labor is sugar cane harvesting. Trend changing in the workforce gender would affect the quantity and quality of jobs, which is determined by the workforce's capacity and the workload of the work performed. The result of this research was a sugarcane agricultural calculator that made it simple for farmers to measure manpower and transportation requirements in estimating harvest costs. Manpower and transportation of harvested sugarcane commodities were estimated through the workload approach, namely, crop production and manpower's ability to carry a load. These two components helped sugarcane farmers to determine manpower and transportation during the harvest. The final yield produced by the projected harvest labor cost would be known immediately.

OBJECTIVE: Internationally, primary care practice had to transform in response to the COVID pandemic. Informatics issues included access, privacy, and security, as well as patient concerns of equity, safety, quality, and trust. This paper describes progress and lessons learned. METHODS: IMIA Primary Care Informatics Working Group members from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and United States developed a standardised template for collection of information. The template guided a rapid literature review. We also included experiential learning from primary care and public health perspectives. RESULTS: All countries responded rapidly. Common themes included rapid reductions then transformation to virtual visits, pausing of non-COVID related informatics projects, all against a background of non-standardized digital development and disparate territory or state regulations and guidance. Common barriers in these four and in less-resourced countries included disparities in internet access and availability including bandwidth limitations when internet access was available, initial lack of coding standards, and fears of primary care clinicians that patients were delaying care despite the availability of televisits. CONCLUSIONS: Primary care clinicians were able to respond to the COVID crisis through telehealth and electronic record enabled change. However, the lack of coordinated national strategies and regulation, assurance of financial viability, and working in silos remained limitations. The potential for primary care informatics to transform current practice was highlighted. More research is needed to confirm preliminary observations and trends noted. IMIA and Thieme. Synthesis of novel material often times requires novel analysis and characterization techniques. The possibility of combining sputtering (SPU) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) in the same chamber, Sputtering Atomic Layer Augmented Deposition (SALAD), has produced interesting meta-dielectric nanocomposite systems that have unique optical and electronic properties, which may find novel applications [1]. Scanning Microwave Impedance Microscopy (sMIM) is a relatively novel characterization tool which permits assessment of local impedance. More recently, the utilization of microwaves in the near field regime has been an exciting topic in the field of high-resolution microscopy. We were able to demonstrate 1 nm resolution using scanning Microwave Impedance Microscopy (sMIM) where a spontaneously forming water meniscus concentrated the microwave fields in small regions [2]. Here we analyzed numerically sMIM with Finite Element Method (FEM) to investigate complex metal-dielectric structures created in a SALAD system. sMIM measurements provide information on both real and imaginary parts of the reflected microwave signal, which can be associated with the local conductivity and permittivity. Yet, these quantities can be influenced by the local topography, so extraction of the electronic contribution is a challenge. In this work, we perform tip-surface distance scans in order to gain a better understanding of the substrate response and compare with the FEM results. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Copper (Cu) has been excessively used for some valuable commodities and this creates environmental problems. The inorganic element becomes toxic when presents beyond the recommended tolerated concentration. Bacterial-based remediation is seen to be an excellent tool to overcome it as it reduces the copper contamination without yielding any other forms of contamination. There are some pivotal properties in the bacteria render them being considered as bioremediation agents against coppers contamination, namely bioaccumulation and biosorption. In the present study, we question if these bacteria could be clustered into a strong and representative proximity according to their functional properties. Mostly, bacteria are grouped based on their genetic profiles derived from the 16S rRNA sequencing. We propose that our K-Means clustering model can be employed to identify genetically-unlabelled bacteria. But first, a prominent reference should be developed and we are in this phase. We figured out the K-Means clustering model do not pull the same-genus bacteria into the same cluster. Instead, the model gathers into a proximity those isolates with similarity on a functional characteristic termed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), regardless their origins and their hierarchy in taxonomy.

Plant growth with complex organic matter content can be enhanced by using oil palm by-products. These organic materials can maintain the water supply in the plant body. Therefore, in oil palm plantations with significant groundwater consumption, organic matter’s the ability to sustain water availability. Caterpillars that devour palm leaves are among the numerous pests that threaten oil palm plantations. Predators of leaf-eating caterpillars use the holly rose flower (Turnera subulata) in oil palm farms as a habitat. Therefore, the effect of the type and dose treatment of oil palm by-products on the growth of Turnera subulata was observed to support sustainable water management in oil palm plantations. The research was carried out using a factorial design arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two components: the type of palm oil mill by-product (boiler ash, empty bunches, and solid) and the dose of a by-product (% volume) consisting of four dosages (0, 25, 33, and 50% volume). The research data were analyzed using variance at the 5% test level. A DMRT test at the 5% test level was conducted on the treatment that had a significant effect. The growth of Turnera subulata was most positively impacted by a solid application dose of 50% volume. Turnera subulata plants responded the least favorably to the application of empty bunches in any dose treatment.
