The Cluster HEritage project with XMM-Newton - Mass Assembly and Thermodynamics at the Endpoint of structure formation (CHEX-MATE) is a three-mega-second Multi-Year Heritage programme to obtain X-ray observations of a minimally-biased, signal-to-noise-limited sample of 118 galaxy clusters detected by Planck through the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The programme, described in detail in this paper, aims to study the ultimate products of structure formation in time and mass. It is composed of a census of the most recent objects to have formed (Tier-1: 0.05 14 M 500 14 M), together with a sample of the highest mass objects in the Universe (Tier-2: z 500 > 7.25 × 1014 M). The programme will yield an accurate vision of the statistical properties of the underlying population, measure how the gas properties are shaped by collapse into the dark matter halo, uncover the provenance of non-gravitational heating, and resolve the major uncertainties in mass determination that limit the use of clusters for cosmological parameter estimation. We will acquire X-ray exposures of uniform depth, designed to obtain individual mass measurements accurate to 15 − 20% under the hydrostatic assumption. We present the project motivations, describe the programme definition, and detail the ongoing multi-wavelength observational (lensing, SZ, radio) and theoretical effort that is being deployed in support of the project. Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. Modeling the Effects of Interactions between Environmental Variables on the State of an Environmental Issue: The Case of the Morelos State in Mexico

An important use of environmental indicators is oriented to know their individual impact on the whole environment quality. Nevertheless, most of the important causes of environment affectations are derived from multiple interactions between indicators which correspond more specifically to the environmental reality. The affectations derived from interactions should be analyzed and interpreted through numerical expressions representing a relevant challenge for developers of environmental indicators. To cope with the analysis and interpretation problem, we propose in this work a methodology in two senses: in a bottom-up sense a directed graph is built representing interactions between environmental indicators as behavioral relations, which exert an effect on the state of an environmental issue of a site over time (10 years);in a top-down sense to assist users in the analysis and interpretation of interactions through a computer interface that provides users with the capacity of knowing how and what relational behaviors between indicators are affecting, the most or the least, the performance of the environmental issue being studied. This methodology was applied to the analysis an interpretation of interactions between environmental variables that affect the state of an environmental quality issue related with the State of Morelos in Mexico. The results showed the adequate expressivity of a directed graph to represent interactions allowed to verify the coherence of the numerical values associated with their behaviors during a period of time and with their effects on the environmental issue under study.

By performing spatially resolved Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy with different illumination conditions, we have achieved a unified understanding towards the spectroscopy signatures of the organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite, transforming from the pristine state (CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 or MAPbI 3 ) to fully degraded state (i.e., PbI 2 ), for samples with varying crystalline domain size from mesoscopic scale to macroscopic size, synthesized by three different techniques.

Heterostructures like InAs/GaSb superlattices (SLs) are distinctly different from well-studied ones like GaAs/AlAs SLs in terms of band alignment, common interface atom, and phonon spectrum overlapping of the constituents, which manifests as stark differences in their electronic and vibrational properties. This paper reports a comprehensive examination of all four types of phonon modes (confined, quasiconfined, extended, and interface) that have long been predicted for the InAs/GaSb SL, with the observation and interpretation of a set of phonon modes by performing cleaved edge μ-Raman study with polarization analysis. Furthermore, we show a signature of symmetry reduction from D2d for GaAs/AlAs SL to C2v for InAs/GaSb SL revealed as a phonon-polariton effect.

High Performance Computing (HPC) aggregates computing power in order to solve large and complex problems in different knowledge areas. Nowadays, HPC users can utilize virtualized infrastructures as a low-cost alternative to deploy their applications. However, virtualization brings some challenges for HPC, specially in regard to overhead caused by hyper visors. In this work, our main goal is to analyze the performance of two hyper visors (KVM and Virtual Box) under HPC activities, considering full virtualization, and Para virtualization approaches. We used the HPC Challenge Benchmark (HPCC) to evaluate processor, RAM, inter-process communication and network communication performance. Our results show KVM in Para virtualization mode has a similar performance of a native cluster.

Nutritional changes are commonly related to children with cerebral palsy (CP), since these are problems as: dysphagia, vomiting and gastrointestinal reflux. For nutritional monitoring, body composition has become an important tool and has been present in this population assessments routine. In this sense, the aim of this study was to develop an equation for body composition estimate for children with cerebral palsy, aged between 5 and 6 years, using skinfolds, from the results of body composition obtained by Dual Energy X-rays Absormetry (DEXA). The study included 10 male children with cerebral palsy, aged between five and six-years-old, who participated in the physical therapy intensive program in Vitória research center, Curitiba, Brazil. Participants were assessed by: the Gross Motor Function Classification System;DEXA;and skinfold thickness. The skinfolds that showed better correlation with the total fat percentage and segmental fat percentage were: biceps and abdominal. The results of the regression analysis obtained equations to estimate the fat percentage by skinfold thickness with R2: 1.000 and 0.971, to seven and two skinfold thickness, respectively. In this sense, it is recommended to use the equation that utilizes the biceps and abdominal skinfolds thickness to estimate fat percentage of children with cerebral palsy, as this presents good estimation indicators. © Springer International Publishing Swit zerland 2014.
