Several studies have verified that multi-level floors are an obstacle for indoor wayfinding (e.g., navigators show greater angular error when making inter-level pointing judgments and experience more disorientation when wayfinding between floors). Previous literature has also suggested that a multi-level cognitive map could be a set of vertically super-imposed 2D cognitive maps and each level could be viewed as a region. However, little research has studied how one mentally connects / integrates the different levels of the 3D cognitive map. This paper provides new insight into how people may integrate multi-level cognitive maps based on the concept of a "transition point", a term used to represent the abstract point that connects different levels of the building. Based on transition points, we proposed the concept of simulated global indoor landmarks which are displayed on mobile devices. We predict that users can develop multi-level cognitive maps more efficiently when assisted by these global indoor landmarks. An ongoing behavioral experiment is briefly described aimed at providing empirical verification for these predictions.

Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is an imperative component of the smart grid, as it is responsible for collecting, measuring, analyzing energy usage data, and transmitting these data to the data concentrator and then to a central system in the utility side. Therefore, the security of AMI is one of the most demanding issues in the smart grid implementation. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system (IDS) architecture for AMI which will act as a complimentary with other security measures. This IDS architecture consists of three local IDSs placed in smart meters, data concentrators, and central system (AMI headend). For detecting anomaly, we use data stream mining approach on the public KDD CUP 1999 data set for analysis the requirement of the three components in AMI. From our result and analysis, it shows stream data mining technique shows promising potential for solving security issues in AMI. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Previous studies concerned with mobile financial services for the poor have been narrowly conceived, mainly depending on secondary data and focusing on technical design issues without having fully understood individuals' complex relationships and money practices. In order to contribute to this knowledge gap and inform mobile money system design, an exploratory case study investigated social relationships and social payment practices among rural individuals in Ethiopia. Key findings regarding their money exchange practices include: (1) secrecy and disclosure of money exchange practices (2) acceptance and or rejection of money gift for some reasons, (3) personalize money giving and accepting practices, and finally (4) separating and labeling of money based on its purpose and source. A qualitative exploratory research approach with key informant focus group discussions served as the primary means of information gathering. Copyright © 2012 ACM.

Learning in multi-agent settings has recently garnered much interest, the result of which has been the development of somewhat effective multi-agent learning (MAL) algorithms for repeated normal-form games. However, general-purpose MAL algorithms for richer environments, such as general sum repeated stochastic (Markov) games (RSGs), are less advanced. Indeed, previously created MAL algorithms for RSGs are typically successful only when the behavior of as sociates meets specific game theoretic assumptions and when the game is of a particular class (such as zero-sum games). In this paper, we present a new algorithm, called Pepper, that can be used to extend MAL algorithms designed for repeated normal-form games to RSGs. We demonstrate that Pepper creates a family of new algorithms, each of whose asymptotic performance in RSGs is reminiscent of its asymptotic performance in related repeated normal-form games. We also show that some algorithms formed with Pepper outperform existing algorithms in an interesting RSG.

This paper evaluates an inexpensive and intuitive approach for providing non-visual access to graphic material, called a vibro-audio interface. The system works by allowing users to freely explore graphical information on the touchscreen of a commercially available tablet and synchronously triggering vibration patterns and auditory information whenever an on-screen visual element is touched. Three studies were conducted that assessed legibility and comprehension of the relative relations and global structure of a bar graph Exp 1 Pattern recognition via a letter identification task Exp 2 and orientation discrimination of geometric shapes Exp 3). Performance with the touch-based device was compared to the same tasks performed using standard hardcopy tactile graphics. Results showed similar error performance between modes for all measures, indicating that the vibro-audio interface is a viable multimodal solution for providing access to dynamic visual information and supporting accurate spatial learning and the development of mental representations of graphical material.

Automated agents for electricity markets, social networks, and other distributed networks must repeatedly interact with other intelligent agents, often without observing associates' actions or payoffs (i.e., minimal information). Given this reality, our goal is to create algorithms that learn effectively in repeated games played with minimal information. As in other applications of machine learning, the success of a learning algorithm in repeated games depends on its learning bias. To better understand what learning biases are most successful, we analyze the learning biases of previously published multi-agent learning (MAL) algorithms. We then describe a new algorithm that adapts a successful learning bias from the literature to minimal information environments. Finally, we compare the performance of this algorithm with ten other algorithms in repeated games played with minimal information. We present a novel platform for noninvasive transmural cardiac electrophysiological imaging (NTCEI),which combines body-surface electrocardiographic data and image-derived anatomic data to compute subject-specific electrophysiological dynamics and electroanatomic substrates not only on heart surfaces but along the depth of the *** success on real-data experiments include 1) transmural scar quantification for patients withprevious history of myocardial infarction;2) trasnmural EP and scar imaging for patients with ventricular arrhythmia;and 3) transmural EP and scar imaging on porcine hearts with chronic *** experiments demonstrated the potentials in computing transmural EP anomalies using only noninvasive observations and without any conditionspecific knowledge a priori,which could not be achieved with either current EP mapping or structural imaging techniques *** will also briefly discuss development towards hardware realizations and clinical feasibility.
