Opportunistic screening with multiphase contrast-enhanced dual-layer spectral CT for osteoblastic lesions in prostate cancer compared with bone scintigraphy

Our study aimed to compare bone scintigraphy and dual-layer detector spectral CT (DLCT) with multiphase contrast enhancement for the diagnosis of osteoblastic bone lesions in patients with prostate cancer. The patients with prostate cancer and osteoblastic bone lesions detected on DLCT were divided into positive bone scintigraphy group (pBS) and negative bone scintigraphy group (nBS) based on bone scintigraphy. A total of 106 patients (57 nBS and 49 pBS) was included. The parameters of each lesion were measured from DLCT including Hounsfield unit (HU), 40–140 keV monochromatic HU, effective nuclear numbers (Z_eff), and Iodine no water (InW) value in non-contrast phase (N), the arterial phase (A), and venous phase (V). The slope of the spectral curve at 40 and 100 keV, the different values of the parameters between A and N phase (A-N), V and N phase (V-N), and hybrid prediction model with multiparameters were used to differentiate pBS from nBS. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was performed to compare the area under the curve (AUC) for differentiating the pBS group from the nBS group. The value of conventional HU values, slope, and InW in A-N and V-N, and hybrid model were significantly higher in the pBS group than in the nBS group. The hybrid model of all significant parameters had the highest AUC of 0.988, with 95.5% sensitivity and 94.6% specificity. DLCT with arterial contrast enhancement phase has the potential to serve as an opportunistic screening tool for detecting positive osteoblastic bone lesions, corresponding to those identified in bone scintigraphy. © The Author(s) 2024.

With increasing dependence on precision electronic equipment, self-protection is becoming essential. The protection circuits commonly used before were fuses and circuit breakers which, however, they are not enough for the current need of high-speed protection circuits and automated engineering logic. In this paper, we develop a new ultrahigh-speed protection circuit, which is over exceeded 20 times faster than traditional circuits and has the ability to self-recover when any failure occurs. With the new circuit developed, it is not necessary to do manual restart and will meet the future needs of protection for electronic precision equipment. This design provides greater convenience and reliability for the unmanned equipment for the future. © 2019 IEEE.

In a single qubit system, a universal quantum classifier can be realised using the data-reuploading technique. In this study, we propose a new quantum classifier applying this technique to bosonic systems and successfully demonstrated it using silicon optical integrated quantum circuits. We established a theory of quantum machine learning algorithm applicable to bosonic systems and implemented a programmable optical circuit combined with an interferometer. Learning and classification using part of the implemented optical quantum circuit with uncorrelated two-photons resulted in a classification with a reproduction rate of approximately 94% in the proof of principle experiment. As this method can be applied to arbitrary two-mod N-photon system, further development of optical quantum classifiers, such as extensions to quantum entangled and multi-photon states, is expected in the future. Various deep learning applications on smartphones have been rapidly rising, but training deep neural networks (DNNs) has too large computational burden to be executed on a single smartphone. A portable cluster, which connects smartphones with a wireless network and supports parallel computation using them, can be a potential approach to resolve the issue. However, by our findings, the limitations of wireless communication restrict the cluster size to up to 30 smartphones. Such small-scale clusters have insufficient computational power to train DNNs from scratch. In this paper, we propose a scalable smartphone cluster enabling deep learning training by removing the portability to increase its computational efficiency. The cluster connects 138 Galaxy S10+ devices with a wired network using Ethernet. We implemented large-batch synchronous training of DNNs based on Caffe, a deep learning library. The smartphone cluster yielded 90% of the speed of a P100 when training ResNet-50, and approximately 43x speed-up of a V100 when training MobileNet-v1. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

The applications aimed at monitoring and controlling smart homes and buildings, health, industrial environments, traffic, energy consumption, resources, and so on, are being increasingly deployed due to the advantages they provide, increasing efficiency and decreasing costs. In this context Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have become a leading solution providing the appropriate mean to get and collect data and deliver it for their processing. Sensor nodes in a WSN have resource constraints, presenting low processing power and, in some cases, restrictions in power consumption. Resources availability constraints force researchers and engineers to develop proper Operating Systems (OS) aimed at low-power wireless devices, and one of the most important and in active use is the TinyOS. This paper describes an experimental analysis and evaluation which investigates relevant features and evaluates the performance (throughput, network delay, success rate, and energy consumption) of WSN under the constraint of using the low-power-consumption-aimed chosen operating system in an harsh outdoor industrial environment for with two different protocols: Active Message (AM) layer protocol and the fully 802.15.4 compliant protocol stack TKN15.4. Based on the results we conclude that TKN15.4 is better in energy consumption and success rate. On the other hand, AM protocol allows running multiple services using the same radio, but at the cost of an excessive energy consumption. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

We explored THz emission from $\mathrm{Si}^{2} / \mathrm{SiO}_{2} / / \mathrm{Ta} / \mathrm{Fe} / \mathrm{Ru} /$ $\mathrm{Ni} / \mathrm{Al}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{3}$ spintronic emitters. We tuned magnetization alignment of Fe and Ni layers by varying the interlayer exchange coupling (IEC) strength using a range of Ru layer thickness t. Depending on IEC strength, magnetization hysteresis shows either ferromagnetic $(t=1.1 \mathrm{~nm}, 1.5 \mathrm{~nm})$, antiferromagnetic $(t=1.3 \mathrm{~nm})$ or canted $(t=1.7 \mathrm{~nm}, 1.9 \mathrm{~nm})$ relative alignment. Competition between IEC and an external magnetic field results in a dramatic difference in THz emission from the ferromagnetically (FM) and anti-ferromagnetically (AFM) coupled structures. The resulting THz emission from IEC structures is a result of an interference of THz transiens generated by the individual $\mathrm{Fe} / \mathrm{Ru}$ and $\mathrm{Ru} / \mathrm{Ni}$ emitters.

With the development of IC nano-meter technologies advancing toward higher operating frequencies and the trend of integrated various wireless communication systems for smart autonomous car, the self-driving system with highly integrated high-speed digital circuits and multi-radio modules are now facing the challenge from performance degradation by even more complicated platform EMI noisy environment. Thus the radiated EMC problem has become a crucial issue for IC adoption by automobile industry. Since TEM Cell could be used for EMI test (IEC 61967-2[1]) and EMS test (IEC 62132-2[2]) on chip or module level, we therefore design and investigate the structure of TEM cell and its characteristics for IC EMC test in this study. Finally, we will utilize the TEM cell designed in this study to measure the EMI emission generated from flash memory under different operation and working conditions.

The trend of smart vehicle for ever increasing need on safe and comfortable driving environment, the more electronic equipment and electronic control unit (ECU) are implemented on automotive. Since the multi-purpose micro-controllers are widely adopted by automotive industry for advanced functional features, their EMI characteristics is crucial for safety issue because of possibly degraded communication signal due to EMI noise. There are also increasing RFI problem resulting from high-speed digital devices interfering wireless communication module on board. We therefore will investigate the EMI and RFI phenomena of micro-controller under different clock frequencies and operating voltages in this study. We will utilize the chip level EMI measurement methods IEC 61967-2[1] and IEC 61967-3[2] with self-designed high-sensitivity near-field probe. With the measured results and related EMI data analyzed, we can establish the EMI list of micro-controller and provide design reference for automotive electronics meeting EMI compliance requirement.

In this work, our study comprises of design and investigation on negative capacitance (NC), metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) field effects transistors (MOSFETs) with spacer and source/drain (S/D) overlap engineering. The scope of the work is to boost the performance and high-energy efficiency of the studied NC-MOSFETs by using the ferro electric material (FE). The NC-MOSFETs with the spacer technology can achieve the admirable I on /I off ratio and subthreshold swing (SS), compared with planar MOSFETs. It makes device scaling possible by eliminating the short channel effect (SCE). We further estimated the effect of FE thickness and spacer, which are another critical parameter of obtaining better electrical characteristics and reducing SS.
