In this paper, we study the transmission strategy of a ground-based beyond diagonal reconfigurable intelligent surface (BD-RIS), a.k.a RIS 2.0, in a network where multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) simultaneously transmit signals to the respective groups of users. It is assumed that each group is assigned subcarriers orthogonal to those assigned to other groups and rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is adopted within each group. A corresponding mixed integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP) is formulated, which aims to jointly optimize 1) allocation of BD-RIS elements to groups, 2) BD-RIS phase rotations, 3) rate allocation in RSMA, and 4) precoders. To solve the problem, we propose using generalized benders decomposition (GBD) augmented with a manifold-based algorithm. GBD splits the MINLP problem into two sub-problems, namely the primal and the relaxed master problem, which are solved alternately and iteratively. In the primal problem, we apply block coordinate descent (BCD) to manage the coupling of variables effectively. Moreover, we recognize the manifold structure in the phase rotation constraint of BD-RIS, enabling the Riemannian conjugate gradient (RCG). Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in maximizing spectral efficiency.

In this study, a micro-led display, an eye chart player software, and image capture and processing module were used to construct a color refractive error exam for subject with speech disorder. This method can be used to test subjects with refractive errors, eye's color vision and other pathological problems. The micro-led display uses an eye chart player program to display the capital letters E and the other fonts, and the gaps of the E letters can be tumbled in any direction. When subjects with speech disorder were examined for vision, the E chart was displayed sequentially from big letters to small letters, and the image capture and processing module was synchronized with the eye chart player program. The subjects only need to point out the direction of the gap with gestures, and the image capture and processing module can simultaneously capture the gestures of the subjects to judge visual test status. In this study, twenty subjects were tested and all obtained the correct VA value and wore excellent eye glasses. The characteristic of this innovative method is that the subjects with a speech disorder can use simple hand gestures to complete the visual exam through the image capture and processing module during the inspection. © 2022 IEEE.

While deep learning-based Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis has recently made significant advancements, particularly in predicting the conversion of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD based on MRI images, there remains a critical gap in research regarding the group robustness of the diagnosis. Although numerous studies pointed out that deep learning-based classifiers may exhibit poor performance in certain groups by relying on unimportant attributes, this issue has been largely overlooked in the early diagnosis of MCI to AD conversion. In this paper, we present the first comprehensive investigation of the group robustness in the early diagnosis of MCI to AD conversion using MRI images, focusing on disparities in accuracy between groups, specifically sMCI and pMCI individuals divided by age. Our experiments reveal that standard classifiers consistently underperform for certain groups across different architectures, highlighting the need for more tailored approaches. To address this, we propose a novel method, dubbed DEAL (DEcoupled classifier with Adaptive Linear modulation), comprising two key components: (1) a linear modulation of features from the penultimate layer, incorporating easily obtainable age and cognitive indicative tabular features, and (2) a decoupled classifier that provides more tailored decision boundaries for each group, further improving performance. Through extensive experiments and evaluations across different architectures, we demonstrate the efficacy of DEAL in improving the group robustness of the MCI to AD conversion prediction. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

This study introduces a novel approach to enhance communication networks in the cislunar space by leveraging Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS). Using the ability of RIS to dynamically control electromagnetic waves, this paper tackles the challenges of signal attenuation, directivity, and divergence in cislunar missions, primarily caused by immense distances and that Earth-based station transmitters do not always face the Moon. A new optimization problem is formulated, whose objective is to maximize the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for Earth-to-Moon communications. We derive a closed-form solution to the problem of determining the optimal RIS phase shift configuration based on the effective area of the RIS. Through extensive simulations, this paper demonstrates how optimal adjustments in RIS phase shifts can significantly enhance signal integrity, hinting at the substantial potential of RIS technology to revolutionize long-distance cislunar communication. In this study, a reflective aspheric optical system is used to establish an eye examination device for distance and near vision tests. The system includes a micro-display with a rotating device, an off-axis parabolic mirror, an off-axis ellipsoid mirror, a chin-fixing bracket, and vision software. The display contents of the micro-display include English C and E charts, Chinese words, graphics, and animation. The off-axis parabolic mirror and off-axis ellipsoid mirror are confocal, and the micro-display is placed at the confocal point. The micro-display is projected through an off-axis parabolic mirror for myopia's distance vision testing, and an off-axis elliptical mirror for myopia's near vision testing. Others, the graphics and animation, provide visual checks for young children. In addition, CCD cameras and AI recognition can be used as visual examinations for people with language impairment. In this study, twenty-five subjects with the refractive error were tested using E-chart and this device to obtain the decimal point VA value, and the trial frame and lens were used to obtain the diopter of glasses. The date of the experimental results was used as a reference value for ophthalmological examination. This system uses an off-axis parabolic mirror and an off-axis ellipsoidal mirror. Optical alignment is a challenge to solve for the system. Students participating in the study obtained good optics training. The advantages of the developed device include the convenience to carry with a multi-purpose and straightforward use.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors affecting the passenger traffic volume on the high-capacity MRT, to analyze the traffic volume trends, and to make traffic volume predictions more accurately. This paper uses the LSTM (Long Short-term Memory) model and regression analysis for Taipei MRT passenger traffic volume prediction. The training data, including dates, temperatures and number of passengers, were collected, and a regression analysis was performed to find trends in the data. © 2022 IEEE.

The atmospheric turbulence as the natural media of optical propagation for the free-space optical (FSO) communications is the great advantage to reach flexible connection and low-cost deployment but also is the major problem as well. Since, the phenomena of optical propagation in the atmosphere are random process, an optical signal is induced that produces severe effects to the performance. Thus, a method to reach best performance of FSO must be developed intensively to reduce the severe effects of atmospheric turbulence. One of the solutions to reduce those aforementioned effects is an ultrashort pulse implemented in FSO to modulate frequency carrier as the signal of optical propagation. In this paper, an investigation of an ultrashort pulse was performed through simulation. An ultrashort pulse has a great chance to be implemented in FSO since it has shorter width of pulse duration than a short pulse. An ultrashort pulse is generated using optical second harmonic pulse generator that produce a pulse at 50 fs of width. Based on the results of simulation, the ultrashort pulses showing better performance of FSO than short pulses have. © 2022 Institute of Advanced engineering and Science (IAES).

Unplanned seizures are caused by a disorder in the central nervous system known as epilepsy. Although significant advancements have been made in the realm of non-EEG wearable devices, there is still much room for improvement in the field of EEG-based seizure detection and prediction using ML. The management of epilepsy has a lot of promise to be aided by non-invasive wearable technology. The suggested study intends to design and implement a support vector machine (SVM) classification-based epileptic seizure detection system based on various wearable devices. The proposed technique for detecting seizures accomplishes According to data for seizure detection, our system consistently achieves a sensitivity of 100% and an accuracy of 97%. High level MATLAB model creation is part of the design cycle. Despite the fact that high performance cannot be achieved with just one signal. Although a high performance detection system cannot achieve the requisite sensitivity and accuracy with a single signal, we presented various combining techniques. RTL modelling, design optimization, FPGA implementation, and functional verification are all included in the implementation cycle. The capacity of the FPGA's partial dynamic reconfiguration is suggested for implementation in order to make better use of the available resources. Comparing the proposed implementation to relevant earlier work, it demonstrated improved utilization. © 2022 IEEE.

We for the first time study characteristic fluctuation of gate-all-around silicon nanosheet MOSFETs induced by random dopants fluctuation (RDF), interface trap fluctuation (ITF), and work function fluctuation (WKF), and their combinations. The explored devices affected by the WKF and its combination result in sizeable variability. Because of enigmatical interactions among the aforementioned random factors, overestimated variabilities occur if we only consider one random source each time, compared with the statistical 3D device simulation for full RDF, ITF and WKF at the same time. Notably, 10.78% and 103% overestimations are found for the threshold voltage and off-state current fluctuations. © 2022 IEEE.
