Reduced-RSS: Reduced Residual Search Space for Nash Bargaining Solutions

A fair and efficient resource allocation is crucial to maximize the efficiency of vehicular networks with time-varying resources among dynamically changing vehicles. The Nash Bargaining Solution (NBS) from the cooperative game theory has been one of the fair and optimal resource management solutions for multiple users. However, the computational complexity required to find the NBS for general utility functions exponentially increases either as the number of users increases or as the resources change over time. This is because the size of bargaining sets where the NBS should be found changes. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to reduce the size of the search spaces by considering the adjacent bargaining sets correlated by resource changes. We use the axiom of independence of linear transformations in NBS for the linear approximation of NBS in the adjacent bargaining sets based on its linear transform, leading to reduced residual search space. Moreover, we prove that the NBS is always included in the reduced residual search space based on the axiom of independence of irrelevant alternatives in NBS. Through simulations and experiments on synthetic and real traffic data, we demonstrate that the complexity of existing algorithms for NBS is lowered with the reduced residual search spaces. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

We present an energy-efficient implementation of the level-2 Pruned Discrete Haar Wavelet Transform (PDHWT-2) for R-peak detection in ECG signals. Approximate computing techniques were employed, including five well-established approximate adders (AxPPA, COPY, ETA-I, LOA, and Trunc) and bit truncation (T), to reduce energy consumption while maintaining accuracy above 99% for reliable R-peak detection. By focusing on the second-level detail coefficient (D2) for peak detection and pruning the approximation coefficient, the PDHWT-2 design achieves significant reductions in computational complexity. The architecture, evaluated with ECG signals from the MIT-BIH database, maintained accuracy above 99% even with aggressive bit truncation and approximation, ensuring reliable medical-grade analysis. Integration of approximate adders (AxAs) and truncation enabled significant power and area savings. Specifically, the use of the AxPPA demonstrated power savings of up to 40% with area reductions of around 45%, making the PDHWT-2 a highly efficient solution for low-power ECG monitoring systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Approximate computing (AxC) has emerged as a viable alternative to enhance computational efficiency by leveraging the intrinsic error resilience of many applications. One of the leading strategies of AxC involves exploring different approximation adder (AxA) configurations as a viable form of reducing power consumption in many applications. This work explores the use of AxAs in a hybrid watermarking technique that combines discrete Haar-Wavelet (DHWT) and discrete cosine transforms (DCT). The proposed hybrid method, HyDHWCT, integrates these transforms to improve robustness and imperceptibility in watermarking systems while optimizing for energy efficiency. We evaluate the performance of various AxAs, including Copy, ETA, LOA, Truncation (Trunc), VLSPPAs, and the AxPPA, regarding energy consumption, circuit area, and error resilience. Our results demonstrate that the AxPPA-based HyDHWCT offers superior accuracy and energy-quality trade-offs over other state-of-the-art AxAs. Specifically, the AxPPA on HyDHWCT with K = 1 achieves up to 72.85% energy savings and 88.32% area savings compared to the exact HyDHWCT while maintaining high accuracy, with a normalized cross-correlation (NC) of 0.9949 and a structural similarity (SSIM) of 0.9920 for the extracted watermark. These results make the AxPPA-based HyDHWCT a highly effective solution for robust and energy-efficient watermarking systems. © 2025 IEEE.

This work introduces an algorithm for identifying frequency modes in local electromechanical transients. The algorithm is founded on the principles of the Complex Morlet Wavelet Transform, offering an optimized tool for detecting parameters such as frequency, amplitude, phase, and damping constants in non-stationary multimodal signals. To validate the effectiveness of the method, computational experiments were conducted using a synthetic bimodal signal and two real multimodal signals generated from the Power System Stabilizers of different generators at the Tucuruı Hydroelectric Power Plant in Brazil. The results demonstrate superior accuracy compared to Deterministic ARMA, PCA, and Prony's method. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Given the severity of waste pollution as a major environmental concern, intelligent and sustainable waste management is becoming increasingly crucial in both developed and developing countries. The material composition and volume of urban solid waste are key considerations in processing, managing, and utilizing city waste. Deep learning technologies have emerged as viable solutions to address waste management issues by reducing labor costs and automating complex tasks. However, the limited number of trash image categories and the inadequacy of existing datasets have constrained the proper evaluation of machine learning model performance across a large number of waste classes. In this paper, we present robust waste image classification and object detection studies using deep learning models, utilizing 28 distinct recyclable categories of waste images comprising a total of 10,406 images. For the waste classification task, we proposed a novel dual-stream network that outperformed several state-of-the-art models, achieving an overall classification accuracy of 83.11%. Additionally, we introduced the GELAN-E (generalized efficient layer aggregation network) model for waste object detection tasks, obtaining a mean average precision (mAP50) of 63%, surpassing other state-of-the-art detection models. These advancements demonstrate significant progress in the field of intelligent waste management, paving the way for more efficient and effective solutions. © The Author(s) 2024.

Research on the study of houses, condominiums and buildings in Taiwan’s metropolitan areas continues to be an important area of research. In real estate forecasting and analysis, methods such as statistical analysis and questionnaire data collection are widely used. However, when multidimensional data is considered, these methods are time-consuming and inadequate. This study aimed to build a real estate forecasting model that can adapt to a changing environment. Data were collected from public government databases, the collected data were standardized for accurate clustering, an appropriate data clustering algorithm was applied to the standardized data, and cross-statistical analysis was performed to verify the adopted algorithm. We used a deep learning based on autoencoder algorithm to increase the accuracy of the clustering analysis. A double-bottom map particle swarm optimization (DBM-PSO) clustering algorithm was then used to determine the optimal clustering solution. Cluster analysis and deep learning were conducted on data collected from public websites to understand the factors that led to the sustained increase in housing prices in Taiwan over the past decade. The results of this study indicate that three key factors—the number of real estate transactions, the average unit price of real estate transactions, and the building material and construction index—significantly affected real estate prices in Taiwan. Our results could help researchers and governments to focus on specific aspects of real estate development without being influenced by other related factors. In addition, the relationships between real estate trends and the aforementioned three key factors were determined to obtain valuable information that can enable the Taiwanese government to regulate the property market and prevent excessive growth. Lifetime studies of organic light emitting diodes are necessary to both understand and mitigate causes of degradation. Here, electroluminescence (EL) studies of green organic light-emitting diode (OLED) pixels are measured continuously using three different dc currents over a period of one week, and their slow EL degradation is accurately fit to an analytical expression with only two fit parameters. The slower-than-exponential EL decay is fit to an empirical unified heavy-tail function that can interpolate between power-law algebraic decays (AD) and stretched-exponential decays (SE). Whereas SE and AD are largely indistinguishable down to 50% of the initial luminance, here we report degradation down to 10% of the initial luminance which most closely fits an AD function with remarkable precision over the entire duration of the experiment. All relaxations share the same characteristic exponent β = 0.53 in the power law decay, whereas the characteristic time-scale τ for degradation decreases with a power-law exponent B = 1.9 as the current increases. The high degree of accuracy in the fit allows asymptotic predictions at time scales that are orders of magnitude longer than the duration of the data collection. The voltage across the OLED is simultaneously monitored under constant-current degradation and reveals an early-onset time scale where the voltage reaches a minimum before degradation runoff. © 2025 SPIE.

SNeRV: Spectra-preserving Neural Representation for Video

Neural representation for video (NeRV), which employs a neural network to parameterize video signals, introduces a novel methodology in video representations. However, existing NeRV-based methods have difficulty in capturing fine spatial details and motion patterns due to spectral bias, in which a neural network learns high-frequency (HF) components at a slower rate than low-frequency (LF) components. In this paper, we propose spectra-preserving NeRV (SNeRV) as a novel approach to enhance implicit video representations by efficiently handling various frequency components. SNeRV uses 2D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to decompose video into LF and HF features, preserving spatial structures and directly addressing the spectral bias issue. To balance the compactness, we encode only the LF components, while HF components that include fine textures are generated by a decoder. Specialized modules, including a multi-resolution fusion unit (MFU) and a high-frequency restorer (HFR), are integrated into a backbone to facilitate the representation. Furthermore, we extend SNeRV to effectively capture temporal correlations between adjacent video frames, by casting the extension as additional frequency decomposition to a temporal domain. This approach allows us to embed spatio-temporal LF features into the network, using temporally extended up-sampling blocks (TUBs). Experimental results demonstrate that SNeRV outperforms existing NeRV models in capturing fine details and achieves enhanced reconstruction, making it a promising approach in the field of implicit video representations.
