Determinants of Generalized Anxiety, Depression, and Subjective Sleep Quality among University Students during COVID-19 Pandemic in Bangladesh

The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with generalized anxiety, depression, and subjective sleep quality among university students during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Bangladesh. Data for this web-based cross-sectional study were collected from 1317 university students from 49 universities using a self-administered e-questionnaire in the last week of April 2020. Findings suggest that university students have been experiencing heightened generalized anxiety (51%), depression (45.9%), and poor subjective sleep quality (27.1%). Results also indicate that university students were severely frightened about COVID-19. The severity of fear and geographical locations were the key determinants in shaping the state of mind as well as subjective sleep quality of university students. It is, therefore, strongly recommended to initiate not only effective strategies to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 but also a strict monitoring mechanism to detect the presence of mental ailments among university students, and to offer necessary supports through family, community, and institutional agencies to curb psychological problems, especially during this unprecedented health emergency.

The effect of different sweetener on physical and sensory characteristic of Wedang Uwuh, an Indonesian traditional drink

Wedang uwuh, a traditional Indonesian drink, made from various herbs and spices which are red in color and have a sweet and spicy taste. In general, wedang uwuh uses rock sugar as a sweetener. Rock sugar contain high concentration of sucrose that can increase diabetes risk factor. Therefore, it requires to substitute rock sugar with other alternative sugar with low calorie. This study aims to develop low-calorie wedang uwuh and characterize their physical characteristics including viscosity, color, and sensory evaluation. Five formulations of wedang uwuh was studied in this research including P0 (rock sugar); P1 (palm sugar); P2 (stevia 0.5%); P3 (stevia 1%); P4 (1.5%). The result showed that different types of sweeteners in the wedang uwuh formulation affect the viscosity, color, and sensory analysis. The use of palm sugar (P1) in wedang uwuh showed the highest viscosity. The use of rock sugar and palm sugar in the Wedang Uwuh formulation showed significant color differences in both the lightness level (L*), a* value (redness/greenness), and c* value (yellowness/blueness). The results showed that samples with rock sugar (P0) showed the highest hedonic score as compared to that of other samples. However, the samples with 0.5% concentration of stevia (P2) showed the lowest score on the hedonic test.

This paper obtains soliton solutions in optical metamaterials. There are a couple of integration techniques that are applied to the nonlinear Schrödinger's equation, with full nonlinearity, that serves as the governing model. These are trial solution approach and application of Bäcklund transform to Riccati equation. There are four types of nonlinear media that are studied in this paper. They are Kerr law that is also referred to as cubic law, power law, parabolic law occasionally referred to as cubic-quintic law and finally dual-power law nonlinearity. Bright, dark and singular soliton solutions are obtained in optical metamaterials with the aid of the two algorithms. As a byproduct of these two approaches, singular periodic solutions and plane wave solutions are also listed although these are not utilized in optical metamaterials. There are several constraint conditions that naturally fall out from the solution structure. These conditions guarantee the existence of these variety of solutions. Current work investigates the influence of wollastonite on mechanical stability and biomineralisation ability of wollastonite/ polycaprolactone (PCL) composites (WP composites). The solvent casting particulate leaching method was used to prepare these composites. FT-IR spectra indicated the presence of functional groups associated with PCL and wollastonite. Scanning electron microscopy showed aggregated morphology and wollastonite particles were embedded in the PCL matrix. The incorporation of wollastonite leads to a more than three-fold increase in the compressive strength of the composites. Moreover, the composites containing 50% wollastonite exhibited better compressive strength than 80%. This observation suggested that if the concentration of a filler is exceeded beyond its critical concentration then the mechanical stability of the composite will be compromised. The composites revealed good apatite deposition ability. Thus, the biomineralisation ability and compressive strength of PCL can be improved by preparing its composites with bioceramics. © 2023 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This paper applies series solution technique to retrieve bright and dark 1-soliton solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger's equation that governs the propagation of solitons through optical fibers. Kerr law nonlinearity gives bright and dark soliton, while parabolic law yields dark 1-soliton solution. The series solution technique provides an alternative, yet powerful, integration algorithm to integrate nonlinear Schrodinger's equation. The drawback that is encountered using this approach is the inability to obtain singular soliton solutions to the model. © 2016 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.

HYPER-REALIST RENDERING: A THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

This is the first paper in a series on hyper-realist rendering. In this paper, we introduce the concept of hyper-realist rendering and present a theoretical framework to obtain hyper-realist images. We are using the term Hyper-realism as an umbrella word that captures all types of visual artifacts that can evoke an impression of reality. The hyper-realist artifacts are visual representations that are not necessarily created by following logical and physical principles and can still be perceived as representations of reality. This idea stems from the principles of representational arts, which attain visually acceptable renderings of scenes without implementing strict physical laws of optics and materials. The objective of this work is to demonstrate that it is possible to obtain visually acceptable illusions of reality by employing such artistic approaches. With representational art methods, we can even obtain an alternate illusion of reality that looks more real even when it is not real. This paper demonstrates that it is common to create illusions of reality in visual arts with examples of paintings by representational artists. We propose an approach to obtain expressive local and global illuminations to obtain these stylistic illusions with a set of well-defined and formal methods. Our formalism is based on four principles: (1) colors and textures must be represented by algebraically complete structures, (2) we should allow impossible and inconsistent shapes in scene concepts, (3) we have to decompose illumination and shading, and (4) we must build our shading functions using statistic-based methods instead of physics-based methods. We claim that these principles allow us to develop simple methods since we can avoid algebraic inconsistencies. Using such simple methods, it can be possible to significantly speed up modeling and rendering algorithms by focusing only on essential elements that can create illusions of reality. © 2024, CC BY.

Supraglottic Laryngeal Maneuvers in Adductor Laryngeal Dystonia During Connected Speech

Objective: Adductor laryngeal dystonia (AdLD) disrupts fine motor movements of vocal folds during speech, resulting in a strained, broken, and strangled voice. Laryngeal high-speed videoendoscopy (HSV) in connected speech enables the direct visualization of detailed laryngeal dynamics, hence, it can be effectively used to study AdLD. The current study utilizes HSV to investigate supraglottic laryngeal tissue maneuvers obstructing the view of the vocal folds, in AdLD and normophonic speakers during connected speech. Characterizing the laryngeal maneuvers in these groups can facilitate a deeper understanding of the normophonic voice physiology and AdLD voice pathophysiology. Methods: HSV data were obtained from six normophonic speakers and six patients with AdLD during production of connected speech. Three experienced raters visually analyzed the data to determine laryngeal tissues leading to obstructions of vocal folds in HSV images. The raters recorded the duration of each obstruction and indicated the specific tissue(s) leading to the obstruction. After the completion of their individual visual analysis, the raters came to consensus about their observations and measurements. Results: Statistical analysis indicated that AdLD patients exhibited higher occurrences of vocal fold obstructions and longer durations of obstructions compared with the normophonic group. Similar obstruction types were found in both groups, with the epiglottis being the primary site of obstruction for both. Participants with AdLD displayed significantly elevated occurrences of sphincteric compression resulting in vocal fold obstruction. Conclusion: HSV can be used to study the movements of laryngeal tissues in detail during connected speech. The analysis of supraglottic laryngeal tissue dynamics in speech can help us characterize the AdLD pathophysiology. Due to its significant applications in magnetic devices for cell separation, magnetic drugs for cancer tumor treatment, blood flow adjustment during surgery, magnetic endoscopy, and fluid pumping in industrial and engineering processes, magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) has a wide range of applications. Therefore, the aim of this study to investigate the Relative Magnetic Field and slipping effect on Casson dusty fluid of two-phase fluctuating flow over inclined parallel plate. More exactly, the relative magnetic phenomena are fixed relatively to the plate (MFFRP) or fixed relatively to the fluid (MFFRF). The mathematical modeling was established as the set of partial differential equations for dusty Casson fluid. Buckingham's pi theorem is used to find out the dimensionless variables, to make our system dimensionless. The solution in perturb form is to find out by incorporating Poincare–Lighthill perturbation technique (PLPT). To know in-depth different parameters the graphical results for both velocities are plotted with the help of software Mathcad- 15. It is clearly detected that the relative magnetic field performs a vital part in the fluid as well as particle motion. Moreover, the relative magnetic field play a vital role in the decreasing of skin friction of both plates. © 2023

Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms and can spread through different ways. Mathematical models and computational simulation have been used extensively to investigate the transmission and spread of infectious diseases. In other words, mathematical model simulation can be used to analyse the dynamics of infectious diseases, aiming to understand the effects and how to control the spread. In general, these models are based on compartments, where each compartment contains individuals with the same characteristics, such as susceptible, exposed, infected, and recovered. In this paper, we cast further light on some classical epidemic models, reporting possible outcomes from numerical simulation. In this work, to support decision making of immunisation strategies, we propose the inclusion of two vaccination doses in the SEIR model considering a stochastic cellular automaton. We analyse three different scenarios of vaccination: (i) unlimited doses, (ii) limited doses into susceptible individuals, and (iii) limited doses randomly distributed overall individuals. Our results suggest that the number of vaccinations and time to start the vaccination is more relevant than the vaccine efficacy, delay between the first and second doses, and delay between vaccinated groups. The scenario (i) shows that the solution can converge early to a disease-free equilibrium for a fraction of individuals vaccinated with the first dose. In the scenario (ii), few two vaccination doses divided into a small number of applications reduce the number of infected people more than into many applications. In addition, there is a low waste of doses for the first application and an increase of the waste in the second dose. The scenario (iii) presents an increase in the waste of doses from the first to second applications more than the scenario (ii). In the scenario (iii), the total of wasted doses increases linearly with the number of applications.
