Deep Learning-Based Analysis of Glottal Attack and Offset Times in Adductor Laryngeal Dystonia

Objective: Diagnosis of adductor laryngeal dystonia (AdLD) is challenging as it mimics voice features of other voice disorders. This could lead to misdiagnosis (or delayed diagnosis) and ineffective treatments of AdLD. This paper develops automated measurements of glottal attack time (GAT) and glottal offset time (GOT) from high-speed videoendoscopy (HSV) in connected speech as objective measures that can potentially facilitate the diagnosis of this disorder in the future. Methods: HSV data were recorded from vocally normal adults and patients with AdLD during the reading of the “Rainbow Passage” and six CAPE-V (Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice) sentences. A deep learning framework was designed and trained to segment the glottal area and detect the vocal fold edges in the HSV dataset. This automated framework allowed us to automatically measure and quantify the GATs and GOTs for the participants. Accordingly, a comparison was held between the obtained measurements among vocally normal speakers and those with AdLD. Results: The automated framework was successfully developed and able to accurately segment the glottal area/edges. The precise automated measurements of GAT and GOT revealed minor, nonsignificant differences compared to the results of manual analysis—showing a strong correlation between the measures by the automated and manual methods. The results showed significant differences in the GAT values between the vocally normal subjects and AdLD patients, with larger variability in both the GAT and GOT measures in the AdLD group. Conclusions: The developed automated approach for GAT and GOT measurement can be valuable in clinical practice. These quantitative measurements can be used as meaningful biomarkers of the impaired vocal function in AdLD and help its differential diagnosis in the future. © 2023 The Voice Foundation

To achieve the goal of transforming Europe into a carbon-neutral continent by 2050, it is essential that emission reduction efforts are supported by well-informed decision-making processes and models. This paper proposes a methodology to evaluate the curves of the marginal GHGs abatement cost through energy system optimization models. The analysis is performed by comparing the marginal cost associated with progressively stricter decarbonization pathways from 2020 to 2050 with the emission reduction benefit. Moreover, average sectorial and sub-sectorial abatement costs are computed to assess the role of different sectors and technologies in the decarbonization process. In the light of its international commitment towards GHGs emission reduction, the selected case study is the Italian energy system, being Italy one of the largest emitting countries in Europe. The maximum marginal cost associated with the -90% emission reduction target in 2050 with respect to the reference scenario is approximately 1600 €/t. From our findings, the power sector turns out to be the cheapest sector to decarbonize (~ 170 €/t), while the industrial sector is the most expensive (~ 620 €/t). The values obtained for the abatement cost suggest that a carbon tax around 160 €/t would be sufficient to strongly reduce the emissions from the Italian energy system. © 2024, The Authors. The comparison of optimum heuristic and deterministic scheduling rules for job shop scheduling in the manufacture

There are some types of scheduling problems in the production line of manufacturing. One of the most multiple usages of the operational machine for doing some jobs is job shop scheduling. The implementation of the job shop problem in this study uses the input of random order of eight job numbers. The raw materials for the job numbers to do the process and the five type machines are considered. The machines work in different functions to do the jobs for some materials. The materials have processed the work in process (WIP) before they are sent to the warehouse. The proposed of this study is to find the optimal condition of job shop scheduling heuristic and deterministic rules to minimize the makespan, tardiness with the heuristic and some deterministic rules in the Lekin software. The heuristic methods are General SBRoutine and the DASH (shifting bottleneck). The deterministic use Critical Ratio (CR) Rule, First come First Serve Rule (FCFS), Longest Processing Time (LPT), Shortest Processing Time (SPT), Weighted Shortest Processing Time (WSPT) and Machine Sequence (MS). The result shows that the minimum makespan is FCFS method with 47 minutes, the tardiness is 27, and for the machine no3. It produces the effective percentage of The contras deviation performance among the jobs of DASH, and compare to the FCFS is as follow, DASH, LPT, MS, SPT, WSPT are increasing 4.26%; 31,91%; 8.51%; 4.26% and 12.77% respectively.

Desirability, availability, credit assignment, category learning, and attention: Cognitive-emotional and working memory dynamics of orbitofrontal, ventrolateral, and dorsolateral prefrontal cortices

BACKGROUND:The prefrontal cortices play an essential role in cognitive-emotional and working memory processes through interactions with multiple brain regions. METHODS:This article further develops a unified neural architecture that explains many recent and classical data about prefrontal function and makes testable predictions. RESULTS:Prefrontal properties of desirability, availability, credit assignment, category learning, and feature-based attention are explained. These properties arise through interactions of orbitofrontal, ventrolateral prefrontal, and dorsolateral prefrontal cortices with the inferotemporal cortex, perirhinal cortex, parahippocampal cortices; ventral bank of the principal sulcus, ventral prearcuate gyrus, frontal eye fields, hippocampus, amygdala, basal ganglia, hypothalamus, and visual cortical areas V1, V2, V3A, V4, middle temporal cortex, medial superior temporal area, lateral intraparietal cortex, and posterior parietal cortex. Model explanations also include how the value of visual objects and events is computed, which objects and events cause desired consequences and which may be ignored as predictively irrelevant, and how to plan and act to realise these consequences, including how to selectively filter expected versus unexpected events, leading to movements towards, and conscious perception of, expected events. Modelled processes include reinforcement learning and incentive motivational learning; object and spatial working memory dynamics; and category learning, including the learning of object categories, value categories, object-value categories, and sequence categories, or list chunks. CONCLUSION:This article hereby proposes a unified neural theory of prefrontal cortex and its functions.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by symptoms such as memory loss and impaired learning. This study conducted a cross-transcriptomic analysis of AD using existing microarray datasets from the hippocampus (HC) and entorhinal cortex (EC), comparing them with age-matched non-AD controls. Both of these brain regions are critical for learning and memory processing and are vulnerable areas that exhibit abnormalities in early AD. The cross-transcriptomic analysis identified 564 significantly differentially expressed genes in HC and 479 in EC. Among these, 151 genes were significantly differentially expressed in both tissues, with functions related to synaptic vesicle clustering, synaptic vesicle exocytosis/endocytosis, mitochondrial ATP synthesis, hydrogen ion transmembrane transport, and structural constituent of cytoskeleton, suggesting a potential association between cognitive decline in AD, synaptic vesicle dynamics, dysregulation of cytoskeleton organization, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Further gene ontology analysis specific to the HC revealed the gene ontology enrichment in aerobic respiration, synaptic vesicle cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. The enrichment analysis in CA1 of HC revealed differentiation in gene expression related to mitochondrial membrane functions involved in bioenergetics, mitochondrial electron transport, and biological processes associated with microtubule-based process, while analysis in the EC region showed enrichment in synaptic vesicle dynamics which is associated with neurotransmitter release and the regulation of postsynaptic membrane potential and synaptic transmission of GABAergic and glutamatergic synapse. Protein-protein interaction analysis highlighted central hub proteins predominantly expressed in mitochondria, involved in regulation of oxidative stress and ATP synthesis. Assessment of water pollution is a critical study because it can affect humans directly. Likewise, river water is widely used for various daily needs. It is important to group rivers according to their classes so that further analysis and action can be carried out. This article discusses the clustering of rivers in several areas in the southeast part of Central Java Province consisting of 14 sampling stations based on several water quality parameters. The pollutant parameters include TSS, electrical conductivity, pH, BOD, COD, and DO. The method used is Hierarchical clustering in which the object grouping begins with grouping two objects with the closest distance being combined into one cluster, and then continues until one cluster is formed consisting of all objects. The results show that five clusters are the ideal choice. Except for electrical conductivity, the parameters observed are dominantly the difference between clusters. Through the formation of river clusters based on their water quality, the characteristics of each cluster and cluster members with high similarity can be identified.

Numeric model to predict the location of market demand and economic order quantity for retailers of supply chain

Polynomials and Spline regression are the numeric model where they used to obtain the performance of methods, distance relationship models for cement retailers in Banda Aceh, predicts the market area for retailers and the economic order quantity (EOQ). These numeric models have their difference accuracy for measuring the mean square error (MSE). The distance relationships between retailers are to identify the density of retailers in the town. The dataset is collected from the sales of cement retailer with a global positioning system (GPS). The sales dataset is plotted of its characteristic to obtain the goodness of fitted quadratic, cubic, and fourth polynomial methods. On the real sales dataset, polynomials are used the behavior relationship x-abscissa and y-ordinate to obtain the models. This research obtains some advantages such as; the four models from the methods are useful for predicting the market area for the retailer in the competitiveness, the comparison of the performance of the methods, the distance of the relationship between retailers, and at last the inventory policy based on economic order quantity. The results, the high-density retail relationship areas indicate that the growing population with the construction project. The spline is better than quadratic, cubic, and four polynomials in predicting the points indicating of small MSE. The inventory policy usages the periodic review policy type.

This paper obtains soliton solutions to nonlinear Schrödinger's equation with quadratic nonlinearity. There are five integration schemes that are applied to retrieve these soliton solutions. These are Q-function method, G' /G-expansion scheme, Riccati equation approach and finally the mapping method along with the modified mapping method. The constraint conditions, that naturally fall out of the solution structure, guarantee the existence of these solitons. As a byproduct, snoidal waves, cnoidal waves as well as singular periodic solutions emerge, which are however not important in the field of nonlinear optics. © 2015 American Scientific Publishers.

The fractional differential equation Lβu = f posed on a compact metric graph is considered, where β > 0 and L = κ2 − ∇(a∇) is a second-order elliptic operator equipped with certain vertex conditions and sufficiently smooth and positive coefficients κ, a. We demonstrate the existence of a unique solution for a general class of vertex conditions and derive the regularity of the solution in the specific case of Kirchhoff vertex conditions. These results are extended to the stochastic setting when f is replaced by Gaussian white noise. For the deterministic and stochastic settings under generalized Kirchhoff vertex conditions, we propose a numerical solution based on a finite element approximation combined with a rational approximation of the fractional power L−β. For the resulting approximation, the strong error is analyzed in the deterministic case, and the strong mean squared error as well as the L2(Γ×Γ)error of the covariance function of the solution are analyzed in the stochastic setting. Explicit rates of convergences are derived for all cases. Indonesia is committed to achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) conditions by the year 2060, with policy adjustments and constraints being necessary to realize this goal. The aim of this study is to achieve NZE conditions using a least-cost optimization method for various power plants that rely on fossil and non-renewable energy sources, without specifying a target year. Two scenarios, Business as Usual (BAU) and NZE, were developed for comparison in the optimization analysis. Through the utilization of LEAP and NEMO software, the optimization results suggest that optimal NZE conditions in Indonesia could be attained by 2075, with solar-based electricity generation playing a crucial role in meeting basic electricity demands. The NZE scenario predicts a 28% rise in electricity demand by 2100 compared to the BAU scenario. In 2075, PV will contribute 32.8% (224.3 GW) to total power supply, while BESS will provide 198.8 GW according to the NZE scenario. This study aims to assist the Indonesian government and stakeholders in reaching the NZE goal, while maintaining current efforts to avoid new efficiency and financial challenges. Achieving this goal will involve using a cost-effective optimization approach and implementing energy-efficient technologies and conservation programs. © 2024, Aalborg University Press.
