PCL matrix composites, reinforced by means of either PMMA, MWCNTs loaded-PMMA or GNPs loaded-PMMA aligned electrospun fibre mats, were manufactured and tested. Nanofiller dispersion in PMMA was achieved by means of sonication or centrifugation and it was checked by means of SEM analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that the addition of PMMA fibres result in a clear increase of yield strength with respect to that of neat PCL, while the addition of the nanofillers in the fibres brings only a slight further increase of the mechanical properties, with the best results obtained for samples prepared starting from GNPs dispersed by centrifugation.

The bare metal stent (BMS) used in the blood vessel caused the restenosis after the operation due to formation and proliferation of neointimal. Recently, as a method to overcome the problems of BMS, drug eluting stent (DES) is developed and being applied to human body which has drug reducing restenosis applied on the metal surface. DES has the advantage of greatly reducing the restenosis after the operation;however, metal stent remains in the body after the drug is released causing issues such as late thrombosis and restenosis so that currently the attention is increasing for biodegradable materials that reduce restenosis and thrombosis by degrading as a certain amount of time passes after the drug is released by the stent material. In this review, the study trend of biodegradable stent will be explained.

Central to most applications involving graphenes flakes is its mechanical response under various stress/ strain states. In this work, we present an experimental study on single, bi- and tri-layer graphene flakes under uniaxial tensile strain, for low levels of strain. Graphene layers were subjected to tensile loading by employing a polymeric cantilever beam assembly, where the graphene flakes are embedded into the polymer beam. The mechanical response of graphenes is monitored by simultaneous Raman measurements through the shift of the G and 2D optical phonons, and their strain sensitivities are determined. The results can be used to quantify the amount of uniaxial strain, providing a fundamental tool for graphene based nanocomposites.

We studied cycle time (0.01-10 s with triangular input waves) and poling history (continuous versus fresh poling) dependent electric energy storage and discharge behaviors in poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) [P(VDF- HFP)] films using the electric displacement -- the electric field (D-E) hysteresis loop measurements. Since the permanent dipoles in PVDF are orientational in nature, it is generally considered that both charging and discharging processes should be time and poling history dependent. Intriguingly, our experimental results showed that the charging process depended heavily on the cycle time and the prior poling history, and thus the D-E hysteresis loops had different shapes accordingly. However, the discharged energy density did not change no matter how the D-E loop shape varied due to different measurements. This experimental result could be explained in terms of reversible and irreversible polarizations. The reversible polarization could be charged and discharged fairly quickly (〈 5 ms for each process), while the irreversible polarization depended heavily on the poling time and the prior poling history. This study suggests that it is only meaningful to compare the discharged energy density for PVDF and its copolymer films when different cycle times and poling histories are used.

Three different kinds of siloxane-containing polybenzamide copolymers have been prepared: a series of siloxane-containing segmented copolymers; a siloxane-poly(benzamide) random copolymer; and a poly(benzamide) - poly(dimethylsiloxane) block copolymer. The structures of these copolymers were confirmed using diffuse reflectance FTIR spectroscopy. Dilute solution viscometery showed them to be high polymers. The thermal stabilities of these copolymers were studied using thermal gravimetric analysis. Incorporation of siloxane units via a phenyl link was found to not affect the inherent thermal stability of the poly(benzamide) chain. The solution phase behavior of these copolymers in DMAC/LiCl was studied using an optical microscope fitted with cross-polars. The segmented copolymers and the block copolymer exhibited lyotropic behavior, which was influenced by the amount of siloxane and the overall molecular architecture. Solutions of the random copolymer were isotropic at all concentrations studied.
