A Low-Cost Indoor Navigation and Tracking System Based on Wi-Fi-RSSI

In the recent years, the number of smartphone users has increased dramatically every year. Smartphones produce a variety of services including indoor navigation and tracking using the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) value of the Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) routers to estimate user position. In this research, we developed a navigation and tracking system using a Fingerprint map and k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) algorithm. In that way, we can help the user to go through the nearest path to user destination by using Dijkstra's algorithm. These features are displayed in the form of an RSSI-based navigation application on an Android smartphone. At the same time, estimated position of user of this navigation app will be sent to server and viewed in a real time website application. This system helps to assist visitors in finding their way in a complex building and at the same time it allows building owners record and analyze visitor movement. One key benefit of the system is its low initial cost. It only utilizes the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure. Experimental results show that this system can reach an accuracy up to 78% and distance errors less than 3 m.

Toward effective learning of cybersecurity: new curriculum agenda and learning methods

A recent survey among high school teachers and students in the EU revealed that cybersecurity topics are not included in the programs addressing computer science topics of European schools and that the teachers' knowledge is not being upgraded regularly for this field. Based on an exhaustive study in 2021-2023 involving high schools in the EU a definition of the educational content and the aligned methodology for high school levels was developed for two areas: cyber-safety and cybersecurity. Available sources, including video platforms, quizzes, presentations, educational games, and hands-on sources for practical exercises, were evaluated and included in the developed fiches with the educational content. The applicability of the developed educational model and the content prepared for upgrading the high school teachers and their student's knowledge was applied in nine European schools during the 2022-2023 school year. This paper describes the study, briefly presents the educational content, the class preparation and the assessment of the achieved learning objectives obtained with the surveys, interviews, and the Capture the Flag contest. The paper ends with an evaluation of the developed methodology and the usefulness of the approach. Recommendations for future use and development are included in the last paper section.

Using Extended Reality to Enhance Effectiveness and Group Identification in Remote Group Therapy for Anxiety Disorders: A Critical Analysis

Group therapy is a scalable and effective treatment for anxiety disorders. However, when performed online, the reduced ability to identify with group members and the reduced interactivity can limit its appeal and effectiveness. Extended reality (XR) technology, including virtual reality and augmented reality, may help address these limitations, thereby enhancing the reach of online group therapy and the benefits that can be drawn from it. To understand how the incorporation of XR technology may improve online group therapy for anxiety disorders, this viewpoint paper examines evidence related to the treatment of anxiety disorders using offline group therapy, online group therapy, and virtual reality, as well as ways to increase social identification and interactivity with the platform, the therapist, and other users. This viewpoint paper suggests ways to integrate these research streams to leverage the strengths of XR platforms and improve group therapeutic offerings.

Improving students' processing of history-related 360° videos through collaboration and emotion regulation

BackgroundWith the increasing availability of immersive technologies such as 360 degrees videos for educational purposes, research needs to shift from media comparison studies to value-added studies in order to identify conditions for effective learning with such technologies. For the educational use of history-related virtual reality media, which are characterized by immersion and emotionalization, instructional approaches that promote cognitive and critical rather than emotional processing of the content are *** on research on self-regulated learning, emotion regulation, and collaborative learning, the present value-added study examines whether (1) strategy training in cognitive and emotion regulation strategies and (2) collaboration can enhance students' cognitive processing of history-related 360 degrees *** a quasi-experimental study with school students (N = 157), we compared the effects of training addressing cognitive and emotion regulation strategies with training focusing on cognitive strategies alone. Before and during each of the two types of training, students were asked to either collaboratively or individually analyse a history-related 360 degrees *** and ConclusionsTraining in cognitive strategies alone promotes cognitive processing of 360 degrees videos, while combined training leads to more emotional processing. Collaboration helps students to analyse a history-related 360 degrees video in a cognitive and reflective way before training and to acquire the cognitive strategies during the training. After training, however, students who had previously collaborated processed the video more emotionally than students who had previously worked alone. This study highlights the importance of tailored instructional approaches to maximize the educational potential of immersive technologies in history education. Research on PHM(Predictive Health Management) for detecting or predicting abnormalities in semiconductors and factory equipment and processes typically focuses on improving accuracy and reducing model size. However, in actual factory settings, on-site personnel not only need to accurately detect and predict abnormalities in processes and equipment but also require an understanding of how to handle the encountered abnormal problems when they occur. This study proposes Industrial Semiconductor GPT technology, which embeds relevant professional technical documents of process equipment into a vector database and generates possible professional questions and answers. When on-site personnel inquire, a natural language processing algorithm is used to compare the generated answers with actual answers. Furthermore, this study verifies the collected expert data through prompting engineering, resulting in an approximately 9.39% increase in similarity, ensuring that factory personnel can obtain accurate and helpful answers when facing abnormal situations.

The COVID-19 pandemic and young people's civic engagement: A scoping review

This scoping review summarizes evidence regarding the impact of civic and community engagement of young people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing that the global pandemic not only brought challenges but also new opportunities to take a stance and to actively engage in communities and society, this review assesses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people's civic engagement across different cultural contexts and identifies key factors and processes that enable young people to engage with their community or society at large. We summarize evidence from 27 original research papers, one thought piece, and four reports conducted by global organizations such as the United Nations and OECD. Relevant research was conducted in the United States, Europe, China, Southeast Asia, South Africa, and New Zealand, addressing the development of leadership skills, civic responsibility, critical consciousness, civic and community engagement, as well as social integration. Key factors that facilitated civic engagement include national investments in online learning facilities, support for basic needs (such as education, health, and employment), and promotion and encouragement of local initiatives. The studies differed in their focus depending on the socio-cultural context encountered and future research needs to consider cultural variations and different demands on young people to inform effective practices for supporting young people's active engagement in society.

In order to avoid the problems of low accuracy of wheel hub recognition and classification and excessive dependence on template image quality in the process of automatic production of the automobile wheel hub, a vehicle wheel hub recognition method based on Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is proposed. Firstly, the wheel hub images under three different lighting conditions are collected, and the wheel hub images are processed in grayscale;Secondly, the positive and negative samples are made, and hog features are extracted, respectively;Finally, the extracted hog features are trained by SVM classifier, and the trained target classifier is used to recognize the wheel hub photos under three different lighting conditions. The experimental results show that this method has higher recognition accuracy than the traditional template matching method under different lighting conditions. © 2022 IEEE.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, and it is caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the basal ganglia (BG). Currently, there is no definite cure for PD, and available treatments mainly aim to alleviate its symptoms. Due to impaired neurotransmitter-based information transmission in PD, molecular communication-based approaches can be employed as potential solutions to address this issue. Molecular Communications (MC) is a bio-inspired communication method utilizing molecules to carry information. This mode of communication stands out for developing bio-compatible nanomachines for diagnosing and treating, particularly in addressing neurodegenerative diseases like PD, due to its compatibility with biological systems. This study presents a novel treatment method that introduces an Intelligent Dopamine Rate Modulator (IDRM), which is located in the synaptic gap between the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and striatum to compensate for insufficiency dopamine release in BG caused by PD. For storing dopamine in the IDRM, dopamine compound (DAC) is swallowed and crossed through the digestive system, blood circulatory system, blood-brain barrier (BBB), and brain extracellular matrix uptakes with IDRMs. Here, the DAC concentration is calculated in these regions, revealing that the required exogenous dopamine consistently reaches IDRM. Therefore, the perpetual dopamine insufficiency in BG associated with PD can be compensated. This method reduces drug side effects because dopamine is not released in other brain regions. Unlike other treatments, this approach targets the root cause of PD rather than just reducing symptoms.
