The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate early childhood preservice teachers' perceptions of computer science and gender stereotypes in computer science, and perceptions of coding in early childhood education. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from early childhood preservice teachers enrolled in a teaching methods course at a large southeastern university in the U.S. Findings showed that participants had misconceptions about what CS is and what computer scientists do. They were also neutral about coding and its integration in early childhood education. Both qualitative and quantitative data supported that the participants did not hold gender stereotypes in CS.

This paper traces the evolution of discourses around the role of critical social theory in the field of lifelong education that have played out in the pages of the International Journal of Lifelong Education and elsewhere in the field, beginning with early critical theoretical discourses, a consideration of the impact of some key theorists and topics in the field, and then exploring the impact of feminist discourses and postmodernism and increasing interest in issues pertaining to identity. It raises questions about the future of adult education, given the rise of neoliberal values that threaten to undermine the historically critical social purpose focus of adult education. Due to neoliberal influences in academe, scholars may be concentrating on the dissemination of findings from externally funded research studies rather than focusing on the development of theoretical perspectives that provide an integral foundation for the field of lifelong education. The advancement of theory helps the field of adult education to explore global issues challenges that need to be addressed and develop analytical perspectives that address diversity and inclusion issues. Theory offers a framework to explore and inform policy development, to analyse research, and to develop democratic pedagogical practices for adult learners.

Renewable energy is considered an innovative solution for today's challenges of energy production and its related issues. One of the promising and developing types of renewable energy is wind energy due to its reliability. In the past decades, researchers have focused their efforts on developing wind energy technology day after day. Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) should operate at the maximum power point for maximum utilization. Various studies have addressed different algorithms to do so. However, selecting and nominating a specific algorithm for a specific application in a specific location requires proficiency and a deep understanding of both (WECS) and algorithms, as each algorithm has its advantages and limitations. Considering the importance of evaluating the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms, few attempts in the literature have reviewed those different algorithms and compared them. In this paper, various MPPT algorithms are investigated and criticized. The algorithms are categorized according to direct and indirect power control and measurement, as well as those using artificial intelligence and soft computing techniques. Merits and demerits are addressed through nominated parameters such as speed of wind measurements, complexity, memory requirement, training, efficiency, and response time.

Plastic pollution is a pressing global issue, impacting both the environment and human health. The urgency of this challenge is underscored by the ongoing United Nations negotiations for a legally binding instrument on plastic pollution. Given the complexities of the plastic waste stream and recycling processes, exploring innovative solutions is crucial. Advanced recycling has been offered as a potential solution to combat the influx of plastic waste, and we examined its connections with post-use plastic feedstock and human health, providing a neutral overview without endorsing any specific solutions. The debate on classifying these technologies as recycling highlights the need for universal definitions and transparency in waste management. Using the United States as a case study, different approaches to advanced recycling, their implementation status, and related policy gaps are compared. Simplified plastic formulations, transparent reporting on the environmental footprint of advanced recycling, and increased research investments may be needed to pave the way for a more sustainable future in plastic waste management. Insights obtained from this review will help non-specialists, particularly policymakers, and relevant industry sectors understand the landscape of advanced recycling within the United States.

BackgroundPelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is widely used for pelvic floor muscle (PFM) weakness in women;however, it has no prolonged *** evaluate the effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) associated with PFMT on PFM contraction, sexual function and quality of life (QoL) in healthy *** Design32 nulliparous women, aged 22.7 +/- 0.42 years, were randomized into two groups: G1 (active tDCS combined with PFMT) and G2 (sham tDCS combined with PFMT). The treatment was performed three times a week for 4 weeks, totaling 12 sessions. PFM function was assessed using the PERFECT scheme (P = power, E = endurance, R = repetitions, F = rapid contractions, ECT = each timed contraction) and the perineometer (cmH2O). Sexual function was assessed by The Female Sexual Function Index, and QoL by the SF-36 questionnaire. These assessments were performed before and after the 12nd treatment session and after 30-day *** was a significant increase (p = 0.037) in the power of G2 compared to G1;repetitions and fast contraction increased in the G1 group, and the resistance increased in both groups, however, without statistical difference between the groups. ECT increased in the G1 group (p = 0.0).ConclusionActive tDCS combined with PFMT did not potentiate the effect of the PFMT to increase the PFM function, QoL, and sexual function in healthy women. However, adjunctive tDCS to PFMT improved the time of contractions, maintaining it during follow-up.

Phonological processing skills have not only been shown to be important for reading skills, but also for arithmetic skills. Specifically, previous research in typically developing children has suggested that phonological processing skills may be more closely related to arithmetic problems that are solved through fact retrieval (e.g., remembering the solution from memory) than procedural computation (e.g., counting). However, the relationship between phonological processing and arithmetic in children with learning disabilities (LDs) has not been investigated. Yet, understanding these relationships in children with LDs is especially important because it can help elucidate the cognitive underpinnings of math difficulties, explain why reading and math disabilities frequently co-occur, and provide information on which cognitive skills to target for interventions. In 63 children with LDs, we examined the relationship between different phonological processing skills (phonemic awareness, phonological memory, and rapid serial naming) and arithmetic. We distinguished between arithmetic problems that tend to be solved with fact retrieval versus procedural computation to determine whether phonological processing skills are differentially related to these two arithmetic processes. We found that phonemic awareness, but not phonological memory or rapid serial naming, was related to arithmetic fact retrieval. We also found no association between any phonological processing skills and procedural computation. These results converge with prior research in typically developing children and suggest that phonemic awareness is also related to arithmetic fact retrieval in children with LD. These results raise the possibility that phonemic awareness training might improve both reading and arithmetic fact retrieval skills.
