Background Dads and Daughters Exercising and Empowered (DADEE) is a program targeting fathers/father-figures to improve their daughters' physical activity and well-being. Previous randomised controlled efficacy and effectiveness trials of DADEE demonstrated meaningful improvements in a range of holistic outcomes for both fathers and daughters in the short-term. This study aims to assess the long-term impact (12-months) of the program when delivered in the community by trained facilitators. Methods Fathers/father-figures and their primary school-aged daughters were recruited from Newcastle, Australia into a single-arm, non-randomised, pre-post study with assessments at baseline, 10-weeks (post-intervention) and 12-months. The 9-session program included weekly 90-min educational and practical sessions, plus home-based tasks. The primary outcome was fathers' and daughters' days per week meeting national physical activity recommendations (>= 30 min/day of MVPA for fathers, >= 60 min/day MVPA for daughters). Secondary outcomes included physical activity, screen time, self-esteem, father-daughter relationship, social-emotional well-being, parenting measures, and process outcomes (including recruitment, attendance, retention and program acceptability). Results Twelve programs were delivered with 257 fathers (40.0 +/- 9.2 years) and 285 daughters (7.7 +/- 1.9 years). Mixed effects regression models revealed significant intervention effects for the primary outcome, with fathers increasing the days/week meeting physical activity recommendations by 27% at 10-weeks (p < 0.001) and by 19% at 12-months (p < 0.001) compared with baseline. Likewise, for daughters there was a significant increase by 25% at 10-weeks (p < 0.001) and by 14% at 12-months (p = 0.02) when compared to baseline. After conducting a sensitivity analysis with participants unaffected by COVID-19 lockdowns (n = 175 fathers, n = 192 daughters), the primary outcome results strengthened at both time-points for fath

John Heron's whole person theory can expand transformative learning theory by elaborating a more nuanced understanding of affect. In contrast to the vague conceptualization of affect's role and the interchangeable treatment of emotion and feeling in most adult learning scholarship, Heron's holistic theory grounds all experience in affective knowing and asserts significant differences between feeling and emotion. These distinctions challenge transformative learning theory by revealing critical subjectivity, emerging from affective, embodied experience, as prerequisite to critical reflection and presenting unitive discourse, over rational discourse, as a more viable, generative path to transformations of being. Throughout, I consider how the urgent need to develop deeper understanding around participatory feeling, in particular, relates to complex global issues like the ongoing struggle against racism and for environmental and human rights.

Introduction: Effective patient-provider communication is a critical component of optimal patient care, but its potential impact on the delivery of healthcare services remains unclear. This study examines the association of patient-provider communication with access to care, healthcare utilization, and fi nancial burden of care. Methods: Using the 2013-2021 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey longitudinal data, the level of patient-provider communication was measured across four domains (attentive listening, clear explanation, respectfulness, and time allocation) as a primary independent variable, categorized into low, moderate, and high. A lagged dependent model was employed to examine the associations of patient-provider communication at baseline with subsequent access to care, healthcare utilization, and fi nancial burden of care, controlling for baseline sample characteristics and outcomes measured at the baseline. Analysis was conducted in February 2024. Results: Among 28,955 analytic samples (representing 709,547,678 U.S. adults), 5.3%, 50.2%, and 44.3% reported low, moderate, and high levels of patient-provider communication. Marginalized populations, including racial/ethnic minorities, those with low education and income, and those lacking insurance, were more likely to report low patient-provider communication. Compared with adults with high patient-provider communication, those with low patient-provider communication were more likely to encounter difficulties in accessing medical care (2.6 percentage points;95% CI: 1.2-3.9), experience delays in obtaining necessary medical care (2.8 percentage points;1.3-4.4), have emergency room visits (4.2 percentage points;1.9-6.4), and face difficulties paying medical bills (4.0 percentage points;2.2-5.8) in the subsequent year. Conclusions: Encouraging effective patient-provider communication is essential for advancing patient-centered care and mitigating health inequities. Am J Prev Med 2024;67(5):740-745. (c) 2024 Else

To date, research on mixed-reality simulation (MRS) has focused on various skills including applied behavior analysis, but studies have not evaluated the role of preservice teachers' perceived knowledge, confidence, usefulness, or actual practice related to data collection. To address this gap, we conducted two separate MRS studies, one for behavioral data collection, and one for sharing academic progress in an Individualized Education program (IEP) meeting. Results of both studies indicate participants' perceptions of their knowledge and confidence significantly increased as well as their actual knowledge or performance. Qualitative findings provide insight into how participants perceived the authenticity of the simulation experiences as well as suggestions regarding dosage and implementation. Limitations, implications for teacher education, and future research are discussed.

Knowledge of instructional strategies in cotaught K-12 classrooms raises awareness of this unique collaboration for benefitting students with disabilities. The purposes of this qualitative study were to (1) identify pedagogical strategies that facilitate coteaching in inclusive environments and (2) explore the relevance of coteaching teams and administrative support for these partnerships. Interviewing during the coronavirus pandemic involved nine experienced general and special educators (coteachers) from elementary, middle, and secondary schools in Virginia, USA. Practices of inclusive education and leaders' involvement in coteaching were revealed. Coteaching strategies, administrative needs, and tips for future partners were probed in the interviews. Individual partners' communication, responsibilities, tasks, and expectations were other areas of interest. Investigating how coteaching teams instruct and perceive administrative support contributes to the research. Importantly, the relationship of coteaching to leadership is crucial to the viability and effectiveness of instructional collaboration.

This essay considers the field of postqualitative inquiry alongside Bruno Latour's arguments for a new political landscape in his bookDown to Earth. The postqualitative movement and Latour provide insight into what inquiry might look like in a postanthropocentric world, yet leave much unaddressed in terms of social justice and Western colonialism. These are challenges that this essay works through in an attempt to "land" social inquiry in a more sustainable and equitable fashion.

Nasal chemosensation is considered the evolutionarily oldest mammalian sense and, together with somatosensation, is crucial for neonatal well-being before auditory and visual pathways start engaging the brain. Using anatomical and functional approaches in mice, we reveal that odor-driven activity propagates to a large part of the cortex during the first postnatal week and enhances whisker-evoked activation of primary whisker somatosensory cortex (wS1). This effect disappears in adult animals, in line with the loss of excitatory connectivity from olfactory cortex to wS1. By performing neonatal odor deprivation, followed by electrophysiological and behavioral work in adult animals, we identify a key transient regulation of nasal chemosensory information necessary for the development of wS1 sensory-driven dynamics and somatosensation. Our work uncovers a cross-modal critical window for nasal chemosensation-dependent somatosensory functional maturation.
