Despite Indonesia's leading position in palm oil processing, the inaccurate assessment of oil palm fruit maturity poses challenges in determining the optimal harvest timing and maintaining product quality. With advancements in information technology, including image processing and object detection techniques like YOLO and EfficientDet, there is potential for automated and precise identification of palm fruit maturity. To explore this, the authors conducted research to identify the most suitable algorithm for detecting the ripeness of palm oil fruit. The study utilized a dataset consisting of 8299 images with six maturity levels, employing augmentation techniques to increase image variability. Results show that YOLO V8s outperformed EfficientDet Lite 4 in terms of object detection precision, achieving higher mean average precision (mAP) scores. YOLO V8s showed a 4% improvement in mAP@50 and a 16% improvement in mAP@50-95 compared to EfficientDet Lite 4. YOLO V8s achieved a mAP of 0.978 for mAP@50 and 0.765 for mAP@50-95, surpassing EfficientDet Lite 4. However, EfficientDet Lite 4 had an advantage in terms of class accuracy and bounding box placement, as indicated by smaller box loss and cIs- loss values. YOLO V8s also demonstrated better frames per second (FPS) performance, ranging from 10 to 15 FPS, compared to EfficientDet Lite 4. © 2023 IEEE.

BackgroundFor successful implementation of an innovation within a complex adaptive system, we need to understand the ways that implementation processes and their contexts shape each other. To do this, we need to explore the work people do to make sense of an innovation and integrate it into their workflow and the contextual elements that impact implementation. Combining Normalization Process Theory (NPT) with the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) offers an approach to achieve this. NPT is an implementation process theory that explains how changes in the way people think about and use an innovation occurs, while CFIR is a framework that categorizes and describes contextual determinants across five domains that influence implementation. We demonstrate through a case example from our prior research how we integrated NPT and CFIR to inform the development of the interview guide, coding manual, and analysis of the *** collaboration with our stakeholders, we selected NPT and CFIR to study the implementation process and co-developed an interview guide to elicit responses that would illuminate concepts from both. We conducted, audio-recorded, and transcribed 28 interviews with various professionals involved with the implementation. Based on independent coding of select transcripts and team discussion comparing, clarifying, and crystallizing codes, we developed a coding manual integrating CFIR and NPT constructs. We applied the integrated codes to all interview *** findings highlight how integrating CFIR domains with NPT mechanisms adds explanatory strength to the analysis of implementation processes, with particular implications for practical strategies to facilitate implementation. Global to local influences on temporal expectation in marmosets and humans

Marmosets are emerging rapidly as experimental models for studying the neural bases of cognition and, importantly, for modeling disorders of human cognition, but many aspects of their mental attributes remain to be characterized. When judging elapsed time, humans implicitly use prior information to predict upcoming events and reduce perceptual and decision-making uncertainty. An influential model of temporal expectation is the hazard rate model, which posits the likelihood of an event occurring in the future, provided it has not occurred already. Here, we report that marmosets trained on a reaction time task acquire the hazard rate model of expectation, consistent with the global task structure. The model emerges progressively with learning but unexpectedly continues to be modified by local contingencies, as demonstrated by a serial effect of trial duration on responses. The combined effects of global and local task structure are well described by a multiple regression model and computationally by Bayesian updating of the hazard function. Parallel experiments in human subjects similarly demonstrate global followed by local influences on reaction times and temporal expectation. Thus, in both marmosets and humans, task history and local structure continuously update task-specific responses, surprisingly at the expense of optimal responses after the competent acquisition of an internal model.

Prenatal and postnatal neuroimmune interactions in neurodevelopmental disorders

The intricate relationship between immune dysregulation and neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) has been observed across the stages of both prenatal and postnatal development. In this Review, we provide a comprehensive overview of various maternal immune conditions, ranging from infections to chronic inflammatory conditions, that impact the neurodevelopment of the fetus during pregnancy. Furthermore, we examine the presence of immunological phenotypes, such as immune-related markers and coexisting immunological disorders, in individuals with NDDs. By delving into these findings, we shed light on the potential underlying mechanisms responsible for the high occurrence of immune dysregulation alongside NDDs. We also discuss current mouse models of NDDs and their contributions to our understanding of the immune mechanisms underlying these diseases. Additionally, we discuss how neuroimmune interactions contribute to shaping the manifestation of neurological phenotypes in individuals with NDDs while also exploring potential avenues for mitigating these effects. In this Review, Kim et al. provide an overview of the prenatal immune conditions that contribute to the development of neurodevelopmental disorders and the immunological signatures and disorders associated with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Social media marketing is a powerful tool for businesses to engage with consumers and build brand awareness and image. This study investigates the impact of social media marketing elements, namely entertainment, customization, interaction, EWOM, and trends, on consumer brand engagement and brand awareness in the smartphone industry. An online survey used to collect data from 185 experienced social media users finds that customization, interaction, EWOM, and trendy content are the critical social media marketing elements that influence consumer brand engagement, which leads to increased brand awareness and brand image. The findings can help marketers develop more effective social media marketing campaigns to enhance consumer brand engagement, brand awareness, and brand image. © 2023 IEEE.

Challenging Neoliberalism Through Radical Adult Education in a Chilean Union School

This article presents the results of a descriptive case study of the Union School of the Chilean nongovernmental organization (NGO) Alejandro Lipschutz Institute of Science (ICAL-Spanish acronym). The study contributes to the field of adult education by providing a contemporary example of what Gramscian pedagogy can look like. Theoretically, this case contributes Latin American social movement-based analysis of neoliberalism, and its impact on the nature of work for working-class people. The study presents an example of educational praxis;the dialectical relationship between theory and educational practice that emerges from ICAL's efforts to advance the Chilean union movement's struggle to challenge neoliberalism through educational and leadership development work. John D. Holst is an Associate Professor in the Lifelong learning and Adult Education program at The Pennsylvania State University where he teaches courses in social theory, globalization, social movement learning, and adult learning theories. He is the author of Social Movements, Civil Society, and Radical Adult Education, co-author of Radicalizing learning: Adult Education for a Just World, and co-editor of Antonio Gramsci: A Pedagogy to Change the World.

This integrative review summarizes the scientific evidence about the use of information and communication technologies in the teaching of histology and discusses its implications. The authors used the descriptors 'Educational Technology', 'Information Technology', 'Histology', 'Teaching', 'learning', and their corresponding Portuguese translation for a comprehensive search of the published literature. This research was performed in May 2020 and targeted the PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, WOS, and SCOPUS databases. Studies published between 2010 and 2020 in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were included in the analysis. After excluding dissertations, reports, and duplicate reviews, 11 articles were identified for an in-depth analysis, which discussed the use of different technologies, such as digital platforms, mobile apps, virtual microscopy, and video classes for the teaching of histology. All studies concluded that these technologies could have a considerable impact, both positive and negative, on academic performance, the correct interpretation of histological structures, as well as students' motivation and satisfaction. The authors' analysis indicates that the use of the above-mentioned technologies in combination with traditional methods has the potential of transforming the teaching and learning process for histology. However, how such technologies impact students' learning success needs to be carefully considered.

Exploring Preschool Teachers’ Conceptions of Teaching and learning, and Their Self-efficacy of Classroom Management and Pedagogical Content Knowledge

This study aimed to understand the relationship among conceptions of teaching and learning (COLT), classroom management self-efficacy (CMSE), and pedagogical content knowledge self-efficacy (PCKSE). A total of 485 in-service Taiwanese preschool teachers participating in this study completed three questionnaires, viz. the Conceptions of Teaching and learning, the Classroom Management Self-efficacy, and the Pedagogical Content Knowledge Self-efficacy. The research findings indicated that, while teachers regarded conceptions of teaching and learning from a constructivist perspective, they tended to possess higher classroom management self-efficacy and in turn expressed higher PCK self-efficacy. On the contrary, teachers with traditional conceptions of teaching and learning tended to have lower classroom management self-efficacy and accordingly displayed lower PCK self-efficacy. According to the research findings, the present study encouraged teachers to develop constructivist COTL in order to foster better management and PCK. Besides, it is suggested that future studies explore other factors affecting teachers’ self-efficacy. © 2022, De La Salle University.

Recent advancements in e-learning have highlighted the significance of incorporating gamification into language acquisition processes. It is essential to examine the application of learning game features within classroom settings. The foremost goal of this systematic review of literature is to ascertain and thoroughly delineate the elements of gamification considered suitable for incorporation into environments for language learning. This investigation focuses on two main objectives: firstly, to examine the influence of diverse elements of gamification on the enhancement of language abilities, and secondly, to comprehend how these elements shape the educational approaches and experiences of students in a gamified learning environment. The review methodology employed in this study is a systematic literature review of the current literature to comprehensively analyze and map out the effective utilization of gamification in the context of language teaching. The results of our study demonstrate that the deliberate integration of game features can have a substantial impact on student motivation and engagement. Nevertheless, the efficacy of these components is contingent upon the individual attributes of students and the educational goals in question. The paper finishes by providing advice for customizing gamification tactics to accommodate the varying learner profiles in language teaching. Additionally, it suggests potential areas of future research that can contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of this pedagogical approach. © 2023 IEEE.

When Play Reveals the Ache: Introducing Co-constructive Patient Simulation for Narrative Practitioners in Medical Education

Despite the ubiquity of healthcare simulation and the humanities in medical education, the two domains of learning remain unintegrated. The stories suffused within healthcare simulation have thus remained unshaped by the developments of narrative medicine and the health humanities. Healthcare simulation, in turn, has yet to utilize concepts like co-construction and narrative competence to enrich learners' understanding of patient experience alongside their clinical competencies. To create a conceptual bridge between these two fields (including narrative-based inquiry more broadly), we redescribe narrative competence via Ronald Heifetz's distinction of "technical" and "adaptive" challenges outlined in his adaptive leadership model. Heifetz, we argue, enriches learners' self-understanding of the unique demands of cultivating narrative competence, which can be both elucidated on the page and tested within the charged yet supportive simulation environment. We introduce Co-constructive Patient Simulation (CCPS) to demonstrate how working with simulated patients can support narrative work by drawing on the clinical vicissitudes of learners in the formulation and enactment of case studies. The three movements of CCPS-resensing, retelling, and retooling-told through learner experiences, describe the affinities and divergences between narrative medicine's sequence of attention, representation, and affiliation;Montello's three forms of narrative competence (departure, performance, change), and Heifetz's three steps (observe, interpret, and intervene) of adaptive leadership.
