Exploring Volunteer Pharmacists' Experiences in Responding to 2023 Türkiye Earthquakes: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study

Objective: Pharmacists are vital in disaster response efforts, dispensing essential medications, managing pharmacy services, consulting, and educating survivors regarding their medications. Their contributions, however, are often underrepresented in scientific literature. This study aimed to explore the experiences of pharmacists who provided pharmacy services to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the survivors after 2 major earthquakes in Turkiye in ***: This study adopted a phenomenological approach. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling was used to invite pharmacists who provided pharmacy services to survivors. Interview transcripts were analyzed following an inductive, reflexive thematic ***: In total, 15 pharmacists were interviewed. Four main overarching themes "response to the earthquake," "preparedness for the earthquake," "experiences during service delivery," and "mental and physical experiences" were ***: From participants' experiences, it is essential to expand the clinical responsibilities of pharmacists and train them in providing wound care, administering immunization, and prescribing. Pharmacists should be integrated as essential members of disaster health teams. International health organizations, nongovernmental organizations, and governments are encouraged to work collaboratively and develop disaster management plans including pharmacists in early responders. This might help mitigate the deficiencies and overcome challenges in health-care systems to provide effective patient-centered care by health professionals and respond effectively to disasters.

Academic developers play a key role in advancing instructor engagement in the Scholarship of Teaching and learning (SoTL) at their higher education institutions, but face structural and epistemological isolation. To leverage the knowledge and experience of developers leading SoTL efforts at their respective institutions, a group of academic developers co-created a regional community of practice (CoP) centered on developing evidence-based strategic plans and programming models to advance SoTL at their. We describe the development and outcomes of this regional CoP. Future directions for the use of such a regional CoP model to collaboratively develop cross-institutional offerings are also discussed.

Integrating Machine learning and Color Chemistry: Developing a High-School Curriculum toward Real-World Problem-Solving

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world, making it imperative to educate the next generation about both the potential benefits and the challenges associated with AI. This study presents a cross-disciplinary curriculum that connects AI and chemistry disciplines in the high school classroom. Particularly, we leverage machine learning (ML), an important and simple application of AI to instruct students to build an ML-based virtual pH meter for high-precision pH read-outs. We used a "codeless" and free ML neural network building software, Orange, along with a simple chemical topic of pH to show the connection between AI and chemistry for high-schoolers who might have rudimentary backgrounds in both disciplines. The goal of this curriculum is to promote student interest and drive in the analytical chemistry domain and offer insights into how the interconnection between chemistry and ML can benefit high-school students in science learning. The activity involves students using pH strips to measure the pH of various solutions with local relevancy and then building an ML neural network model to predict the pH value based on the color changes of pH strips. The integrated curriculum increased student interest in chemistry and ML and demonstrated the relevance of science to students' daily lives and global issues. This approach is transformative in developing a broad spectrum of integration topics between chemistry and ML and understanding their global impacts.

The influence of preschool teachers' critical thinking attitude on their perceived ease of understanding and integrating, and attitude toward implementation of a new curriculum

The implementation of new curriculum outlines brings advancements in education, but also disrupts teachers' habitual work patterns. Enhancing curriculum acceptance among educational personnel remains a critical challenge. To address this issue, the present study explored the relationships between critical thinking attitude (CT attitude), perceived ease of understanding (PEU), perceived ease of integrating (PEI), and attitude toward implementation (ATI) of new curriculum outlines. Data were collected from 256 preschool teachers who had experience using Taiwan's new curriculum outline in their teaching. After structural equation modeling, the results indicated that CT attitude was positively related to both PEU and PEI;PEI was positively related to ATI;and CT attitude was positively related to ATI, mediated by PEU and PEI. Additionally, the predictive power of PEU was greater than that of PEI in relation to ATI. The results suggest that the key to adopting new curriculum reform is teachers' CT attitude.

Meritocracy and Advantaged Parents' Perceptions of the Fairness of School Choice Policies

The widespread expansion of school choice policies has bolstered the consumer-education paradigm where parents compete for what they perceive to be a limited number of high quality schools. In this comparative case study, we examine advantaged White parents' perceptions of meritocracy in the context of a competitive elementary and high school choice system in New York City. We find that parents' critique the choice policies and the unfair burdens they place on low-income and immigrant families while engaging in opportunity hoarding to ensure their children's privileged access to the most competitive schools, all while dismissing claims that school choice is meritocratic. Ultimately, advantaged parents' suggest returning to neighborhood zoning which would preserve their access to exclusive, high performing schools and avoid the stress and inequities of school choice policies. This study offers further examples of the powerful influence of contradictory White discourse in the context of education policy and reform.

Over the past similar to 25 years, chemoinformatics has evolved as a scientific discipline, with a strong foundation in pharmaceutical research and scientific roots that can be traced back to the late 1950s. It covers a wide methodological spectrum and is perhaps best positioned in the greater context of chemical information science. Herein, the chemoinformatics discipline is delineated, characteristic (and partly problematic) features are discussed, and a global view of the field is provided, emphasizing key developments.

As the countries with a high percentage of deaths due to COVID-19, Indonesia and Pakistan have the potential to difficulties in maintaining the sustainability of social, economic and political life including sustainability technology. The quality of education in Indonesia and Pakistan has the same fate, which is more lagging behind its neighbouring countries. Likewise, Pakistan, lags behind India so that some of its citizens choose to study abroad. The purpose of this study is to illustrate how Indonesia and Pakistan utilize social learning platforms to support sustainability technology. The theoretical framework used is about social learning platforms as part technology, assumptions of lagging ICT in developing countries and digital communication systems in a country supporting the lives of its citizens. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data verified crosscheck by research teams from two countries. The conclusion of the study mentioned that some social learning platforms in the two countries vary and are not equal in popularity. Google Classroom, Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn learning are popular platforms in both countries studied. They are different habit of learning process in two countries;Students in Indonesia is getting used to learning via digital media, while in Pakistan;students still expect face-to-face lectures/teachers meetings even though there are already a digital version of the learning platforms. © 2023 IEEE.

The Jeong (2020) study found that greater use of backward and depth-first processing was associated with higher scores on students’ argument maps and that analysis of only the first five nodes students placed in their maps predicted map scores. This study utilized the jMAP tool and algorithms developed in the Jeong (2020) study to determine if the same processes produce higher-quality causal maps. This study analyzed the first five nodes that students (n = 37) placed in their causal maps to reveal that: 1) use of backward, forward, breadth-first, and depth-first processing produced maps of similar quality;and 2) backward processing had three times more impact on maps scores than depth-first processing to suggest that linking events into chains using backward chaining is one approach to constructing higher quality causal maps. These findings are compared with prior research findings and discussed in terms of noted differences in the task demands of constructing argument versus causal maps to gain insights into why, how, and when specific processes/strategies can be applied to create higher-quality causal maps and argument maps. These insights provide guidance on ways to develop diagramming and analytic tools that automate, analyze, and provide real-time support to improve the quality of students’ maps, learning, understanding, and problem-solving skills. © CELDA *** rights reserved.

Organizational solidarity in practice in Bolivia and Argentina: Building coalitions of resistance and creativity

This article considers organizational solidarity in practice-modes of organizing rooted in solidarity, relationality, coalition-building, and difference. It does so by studying two Latin American illustrative cases: Bolivia's campesino-indigena movements coalescing traditional practices and urban-neighborhood experiences in order to self-organize socio-political spaces;and Argentina's worker-led empresas recuperadas por sus trabajadores (worker-recuperated enterprises), where workers have been drawing on working-class self-activity to convert companies to cooperatives and self-manage spaces of production. Via a diverse economies approach, the article begins to inventory, describe, and provisionally theorize the recuperations, rearticulations, and creative proposals for organizing social, cultural, and economic life being forged by these diverse groups. The article ultimately unravels four broad commonalities threading and shaping each case: the neoliberal political economic context, collective memory, horizontal organizing, and coalitional possibilities. Though emerging in different national conjunctures and histories, what these two cases bring to the surface are the resistive and creative dimensions of each organizing experience. They are rooted in deeply relational coalitions linked via solidarity in difference, while drawing on collective memories of the past to recreate and reenvision the present and the future beyond the legacies of colonial histories and capitalist-centered actualities.

Drawing on interview data collected as part of a qualitative study among thirty-two local educators and community advocates in the borderlands context of the Lower Rio Grande Valley (RGV), we inquire about the fundamental characteristics of being a community-engaged teacher for sustainable and equitable Latinx student teaching and learning. The ultimate purpose is to collectively develop a model of community-engaged pedagogy that will bridge school and university cultures. Based on our findings, a community-engaged teacher preparation approach should prioritize that teacher candidates can establish rapport and relationship with students and their families;grapple with the contradictions entrenched in a prevalent deficit model, and embrace advocacy in terms of valuing bilingualism, critically curtailing biases, and setting high expectations for students.
