Both artificial intelligence (AI) and citizen science hold immense potential for addressing major sustainability challenges from health to climate change. Alongside their individual benefits, when combined, they offer considerable synergies that can aid in both better monitoring of, and achieving, sustainable development. While AI has already been integrated into citizen science projects such as through automated classification and identification, the integration of citizen science approaches into AI is lacking. This integration has, however, the potential to address some of the major challenges associated with AI such as social bias, which could accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development.

More research is needed on how to best use analytics to support educational decisions and design effective learning environments. This study was to explore and mine the data captured by a digital educational game designed for middle school science to understand learners' behavioral patterns in using the game, and to use evidence-based findings to inform the design and implementation of the game's next iteration. The data was from 3,963 sixth-grade students from 31 teachers across nine U.S. states who used the game. The dataset consisted of 3,063,267 lines of log data. The findings showed significant positive relationships between students' performance scores and their tool usage in terms of both frequency and duration of tool use. This was further confirmed by the relationships between different levels of students' performance and tool usage: the more frequently and longer that students used the tools, the higher their performance scores, and there were significant differences between students with high performance scores and those with low performance scores. Comparing three different cases over the individual days of game use provided further evidence that in all three comparisons, the students who used more essential tools and for longer time had higher performance scores. Implications are discussed.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels serve as a standard solution for the collection of solar energy. The flat photovoltaic solar plate design has been the most adopted by the market for its ease of installation. However, this design faces limitations due to geometric constraints and the sun's trajectory through the day. Inspiration was drawn from nature to overcome these limitations by utilizing the tridimensional hexagonal shape observed in honeycomb structures. The used approach aimed to explore a novel design that can reduce the constraints of flat PV panels while maximizing energy output. The unique 3D arrangement of the hexagonal pyramid enables the installation of mirrors inside to ease the reflection of photons and to increase energy production compared to flat panels. Furthermore, this design presents an opportunity to incorporate a water capture and heating system, thereby increasing the system's overall usage.

Millennial and Gen Z consumers in emerging countries form the biggest growth market for luxury businesses. While extant luxury research treats them as a homogenous unit, the Generational Cohort Theory proposes segmenting young consumers based on demographics. Using a conceptual framework developed through an extensive literature review, Random Forest regressors and Gradient Boosted Regression Trees are used to study the feature importances of the factors that drive Consumer Luxury Value and Luxury Purchase Intention. Ensemble tree methods are capable of capturing nonlinearities within the model and leverage the explainability of their decision tree learners to provide insight into the feature importances. Consumer Luxury Value, Other-directed and Experiential values are the most significant predictors of Luxury Purchase Intention across all gender and demographic cohorts with specific differences between cohorts. Gen Z consumers display stronger Other-Directed and Cost Perception values. Cohort-specific findings show Gen Z luxury consumers are more collectivistic than Millennials.

In previous research, gamified classroom management has been found to improve high school students' classroom participation. This study applied gamification classroom management through a "Class of Oz" in an elementary school to cultivate students' learning. Two classes were randomly assigned to the experimental group, and the other two were randomly assigned to the control group. Eighty-three valid samples were retained after deleting incomplete data from the pre- and post-test. After 11 weeks of gamified classroom management, the results indicated that the experimental group experienced a higher value and emotion of learning motivation than the control group. However, there were no differences between the Chinese and mathematics scores of the two groups. In addition, qualitative observations showed that gamified classroom management attracted students' attention and improved their learning motivation. These results revealed that role-play gamified classroom management could enhance students' learning motivation without affecting their academic performance.

The brain enables adaptive behavior via the dynamic coordination of diverse neuronal signals across spatial and temporal scales: from fast action potential patterns in microcircuits to slower patterns of distributed activity in brain-wide networks. Understanding principles of multiscale dynamics requires simultaneous monitoring of signals in multiple, distributed network nodes. Combining optical and electrical recordings of brain activity is promising for collecting data across multiple scales and can reveal aspects of coordinated dynamics invisible to standard, single-modality approaches. We review recent progress in combining opto- and electrophysiology, focusing on mouse studies that shed new light on the function of single neurons by embedding their activity in the context of brain-wide activity patterns. Optical and electrical readouts can be tailored to desired scales to tackle specific questions. For example, fast dynamics in single cells or local populations recorded with multi-electrode arrays can be related to simultaneously acquired optical signals that report activity in specified subpopulations of neurons, in non-neuronal cells, or in neuromodulatory pathways. Conversely, two-photon imaging can be used to densely monitor activity in local circuits while sampling electrical activity in distant brain areas at the same time. The refinement of combined approaches will continue to reveal previously inaccessible and under-appreciated aspects of coordinated brain activity.

Introduction: Due to the global aging trend, the number of older people who will spend the last years of their lives in nursing homes is increasing. However, nursing homes have long confronted negative social and public discourses, including stigmas on dementia and life in such facilities. Nevertheless, the remaining time of residents with dementia holds signi ficance, for them and their families, as they seek respect and the ability to make meaningful end -of -life decisions. Objective: To explore how nursing home nurses advocate for the remaining lifetimes of residents with dementia. Design: A qualitative research design. Setting(s): Four nursing homes in Korea from January 2023 to February 2023. Participants: Twenty nurses who provide direct caregiving for residents with dementia and have a minimum of two years' experience in nursing homes were recruited. Methods: This study employed a critical discourse analysis. Twenty interviews conducted with nursing home nurses were examined to explore the connections between the grammatical and lexical aspects of the language used by the nurses to construct their identities as advocates for residents with dementia and the broader sociocultural context. Findings: Four discourses regarding nursing home nurses advocating for the value of life of residents with dementia were identi fied: (1) Bridging perspectives: I am a negotiator between medical treatment and residents' families with differing views;(2) Embracing a shared humanity: Residents are no different from me;they just need professional help;(3) Af firming belongingness: Residents still belong to their families, even when care has been delegated;and (4) Empowering voices for change: We are struggling to provide better care in a challenging reality. Conclusions: This paper highlights the importance of nursing advocacy in safeguarding the remaining time and dignity of individuals with dementia, challenging the stigma surrounding dementia and nursing homes and calling for
