Among essential treatment of cardiovascular disorders are fibrinolytic proteases. Most thrombolysis agents are fibrinolytic enzymes from group of bacterial proteases. This work reports a potent bacterium isolated from fermented intestine of H. scabra, which could produce fibrinolytic protease with high thrombolysis activity. Bacterial selection was conducted based on proteolytic and fibrinolytic activities indicated as clear zone on skim milk and fibrin agar media, respectively. Crude proteases from the selected bacterial isolates were subjected to thrombolytic activity test based on gravimetric method, which results were confirmed after 7 repetitions. As result, 4 fibrinolytic protease-producing bacterial isolates HFSI-3, HFSI-4, HFSI-5 and HFSI-8 were obtained. Among them, HFSI-5 isolate identified as Bacillus tequilensis on the basis of the 16S rRNA gene sequencing and morphological properties produced crude protease with the highest thrombolytic activity. The thrombolytic activity of crude protease produced by B. tequilensis HFSI-5 is worthy of comparing to that of standard fibrinolytic enzyme Nattokinase showing its potential as thrombolysis agent. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The challenge for the success of SMEs in Indonesia is increasing competition that demands adaptation to environmental changes. In 2018 SMEs fish processing for boneless frozen milkfish in Pinrang Regency has a production capacity of 150 tons, potentially producing solid, liquid or gas waste. The purpose of this research is to analyze the potential of SME's fish processing waste and its utilization in supporting the sustainability of production. The study was conducted in Pinrang Regency from December 2018 to April 2019 with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection through field observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the potential of waste produced by 20-30 percent was used as food, feed and fertilizer products. The diversification of the main products into "fish meatballs" and "fish crackers" increases competitiveness and reduction of solid waste. Solid waste is also used to produce by-products in the form of "shredded milkfish" and "fishbone sticks". SMEs fish processing has dynamically applied the concept of clean production in handling and utilizing waste. Waste management has reduced the impact on the SME's fish processing environment. The implementation of clean production has increased production capacity, product diversification, guaranteed product quality, and the welfare of owners and workers. The strategy for handling and managing waste has optimized added value and supports the improvement of competitiveness and sustainability of production. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. The institutional sustainability of SMEs is determined by the ability of institutions to build an input-process-output relationship and the contingency power of the environment. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between institutional sustainability and the sustainability of production. Data collection was carried out by field observations, in-depth interviews and documentation and data were analyzed using a case descriptive technique. The results of the study show that SMEs of fish processing unit that can operate sustainably is only 38 percent. Institutional Sustainability of SMEs of fish processing unit can be seen from its ability to provide input systems with continuous in quality and quantity;carry out the production process in accordance with the principles of GMP and SSOP dynamically and continuously;the ability to build a product marketing system through extensive network and marketing cooperation;and maintain contingency with the mandate/task environment;both suppliers, customers and competitors. The contingency power with the political and economic environment supporting the institutional sustainability of SMEs. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper aimed to highlight the succession of biochar addition for soil amendment and contaminants remediation during composting process. Biochar incorporated into the compost mixture promotes composting performance and enhances contaminants reduction. Co-composting with biochar for soil biota has been demonstrated via modified soil biological community abundance and diversity. On the other hand, adverse alterations to soil properties were noted, which had a negative impact on the communication of microbe-to-plant interactions within the rhizosphere. As a result, these changes influenced the competition between soilborne pathogens and beneficial soil microorganisms. Co-composting with biochar promoted the heavy metals (HMs) remediation efficiency in contaminated soils by around 66–95%. Notably, applying biochar during composting could improve nutrient retention and mitigate leaching. The adsorption of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus compounds by biochar can be applied to manage environmental contamination and presents an excellent opportunity to enhance soil quality. Additionally, the various specific functional groups and large specific surface areas of biochar allow for excellent adsorption of persistent pollutants (e.g., pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)) and emerging organic pollutants, such as microplastic, phthalate acid esters (PAEs) during co-composting. Finally, future perspectives, research gaps, and recommendations for further studies are highlighted, and potential opportunities are discussed. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

The Southern Coast of West Java Province in the Java Islands is one of prone and exposed area to tsunami hazard. It has about 428 kilometers coastline length, covering 5 administrational regencies (i.e. Sukabumi, Cianjur, Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran). It is a strategic area that support many economic activities including tourism, fisheries, electricity power plants, agricultures, markets as well as social factors such as coastal villages, schools and other public facilities. The existence of this strategic area is threatened by the potential for a tsunami disaster mainly from megathrust along the Southern Coast of Java Island. On 2006, a tsunami earthquake of M7.7 occurred off Pangandaran Regency with tsunami height of 5-8 meters and inundated about 500 meters along southern coast of West and Central Java Province. The tsunami caused more than 600 casualties and damage to buildings, public facilities and insfrastructure. Yet, the Indonesia National Earthquake Source and Hazard Map suggest a bigger threat of a plausible M8.7 - M9.2 megathrust earthquake off Java island. This research aims to analyze and map potential areas affected by the tsunami in the South Coast of West Java Province based on numerical modelling carried out with Cornell Multi-grid Coupled Tsunami Model (COMCOT) v1.7 based on the several megathrust earthquake scenarios in southern off West Java. The results of tsunami modelling show that the highest impact is generated in the Sunda Straits & West Java - Central Java Megathrust Scenarios with highest tsunami inundation and the fastest travel time occurred in Cianjur Regency with 26,7 meters height and estimated arrival time of tsunami wave approximately 10 minutes after the mainshock, while the farthest inundation distance is estimated in Sukabumi Regency about 5.8 kilometers from the coast due to existence of river. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

How can humans remain in control of artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems designed to perform tasks autonomously? Such systems are increasingly ubiquitous, creating benefits - but also undesirable situations where moral responsibility for their actions cannot be properly attributed to any particular person or group. The concept of meaningful human control has been proposed to address responsibility gaps and mitigate them by establishing conditions that enable a proper attribution of responsibility for humans;however, clear requirements for researchers, designers, and engineers are yet inexistent, making the development of AI-based systems that remain under meaningful human control challenging. In this paper, we address the gap between philosophical theory and engineering practice by identifying, through an iterative process of abductive thinking, four actionable properties for AI-based systems under meaningful human control, which we discuss making use of two applications scenarios: automated vehicles and AI-based hiring. First, a system in which humans and AI algorithms interact should have an explicitly defined domain of morally loaded situations within which the system ought to operate. Second, humans and AI agents within the system should have appropriate and mutually compatible representations. Third, responsibility attributed to a human should be commensurate with that human’s ability and authority to control the system. Fourth, there should be explicit links between the actions of the AI agents and actions of humans who are aware of their moral responsibility. We argue that these four properties will support practically-minded professionals to take concrete steps toward designing and engineering for AI systems that facilitate meaningful human control. The cement industry in Indonesia, heavily relies on coal, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Simultaneously, Java Island generates over 23 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually, with limited utilization for energy recovery. This study evaluates the feasibility of substituting coal with refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from MSW in Java's cement industry, focusing on environmental, economic, and technical aspects. Scenario analyses indicate that substituting 10%, 20%, and 30% of thermal energy with RDF could divert up to 8.7 million tons of MSW from landfills annually, reducing GHG emissions by up to 2.77 million Gg CO₂-eq. These reductions align with Indonesia's environmental policies and global climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. The economic assessment demonstrates the viability of RDF, with potential annual cost savings of up to $421 million. Beyond addressing coal dependency, RDF adoption supports circular economy practices, reduces landfill reliance, and mitigates environmental pollution. However, challenges such as infrastructure gaps and regulatory barriers require attention. This study provides actionable insights to guide policy formulation, foster industry investment, and facilitate the implementation of RDF-based energy solutions. By bridging waste management and sustainable energy practices, the findings contribute to Indonesia's renewable energy goals, emphasizing the practical applications of RDF for a more sustainable future in industrial operations. © 2025 The Authors

The increase of microplastic contamination in Vietnam is a growing concern due to various domestic, agricultural, and industrial activities. The use of plastic mulch and sludge application in agricultural farmland, textile production, daily consumer items, cleaning agents, and health/personal care products contribute significantly to the increasing microplastic pollution in the aquatic ecosystem. The concentration of microplastics reported in surface water ranged from 0.35 to 519,000 items m−3, with fibers and fragments being the most prevalent shapes. Notably, the high concentration of microplastics was observed in lakes, canals, and megacities such as Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, which poses potential health risks to the local community via drinking-water supply and food chains. As an emerging pollutant, MPs are the transport vectors for contaminants in environmental matrices that act as a carrier of hazardous pollutants, release toxic compounds, and evenly aggregate/accumulate in biota. Recent studies have reported the presence of microplastics in various marine organisms, including fish and shellfish, highlighting the risk of ingestion of these particles by humans and wildlife. Thus, it is imperative to monitor microplastic contamination in the ecosystem to provide helpful information for the government and local communities. Efforts should be taken to reduce microplastic pollution at the source to minimize potential effects on ecological and health safety. This review paper emphasizes the urgent need for further research on microplastic pollution in Vietnam and highlights potential solutions to mitigate this emerging environmental threat. This study investigated the spatiotemporal variation and long-range transport characteristics of atmospheric speciated mercury (ASM) along the West and East Channels surrounding Taiwan Island toward the South China Sea (SCS) in East Asia. Field sampling was conducted at three remote island sites, and potential sources of ASM were examined using backward trajectory clustering and regional fire maps. Seasonally, ASM concentrations followed the order: spring > winter > fall > summer, with higher ASM levels observed in the western waters of Taiwan Island than those in the eastern waters. Among the mercury species, gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) was predominant, and followed by particulate-bound mercury (PBM) and gaseous oxidized mercury (GOM), with total gaseous mercury (TGM = GEM+GOM) accounting for 92.1–98.4 % of ASM. Clustered trajectory analysis indicated that Asian Northeastern Monsoons (ANMs) may transport ASMs originating from continental sources in North and East Asia to the island sites via long-range transport. Slash-and-burn activities in the Indochina Peninsula and mainland China during spring and winter contributed to elevated ASM levels. The West Channel exhibited a pronounced “channel effect,” amplifying industrial emissions across the Taiwan Strait and resulting in higher ASM levels at the Penghu Islands. Conversely, the East Channel received diluted air masses through long-range transport from the Korean Peninsula and North China via Green Island and the Bashi Channel, leading to relatively lower ASM levels at the Dongsha Island. Overall, this study highlights the importance of seasonal circulation patterns and regional combustion sources in shaping mercury distribution in the marine boundary layer of East Asia.
