The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-The-Art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-Trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Determining the optimum level of trolox, an antioxidant, is crucial, as excessive consumption can harm human health. This study proposes a highly sensitive electrode material, manganese zinc selenide with carbon (Mn0.2Zn0.8Se/C) decorated on a nitrogen-doped graphene hydrogel (NGH) for trolox detection. The Mn–ZIF-8-derived Mn0.2Zn0.8Se/C was prepared via a simple selenization process, and the NGH@Mn0.2Zn0.8Se/C composite was prepared via sonication. Structural, morphological, and spectroscopic analyses of the prepared NGH@Mn0.2Zn0.8Se/C composite material were performed. This sensing platform is cost-effective, and its rapid preparation time renders it highly effective. The synergistic effect between NGH and the Mn0.2Zn0.8Se/C composite resulted in enhanced electrochemical performance, with a lower Rct value than that of the control materials. The proposed sensor exhibited a good linear range of 0.01–103.79 μM with a lower detection limit of 0.08 μM. Real-time monitoring confirmed the reliability of trolox for detecting food, environmental, and biological samples. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

This paper investigates the tracking and erosion performance of silicone rubber filled with alumina trihydrate under DC dry band arcing in the inclined plane tracking and erosion test (IPT). Alumina trihydrate is incorporated into silicone rubber at 50 wt.% loading level for preparing silicone rubber composites, which are exposed to DC dry band arcing under mild and severe voltage levels in the inclined plane tracking and erosion test. Test outcomes indicate that the mechanism of silicone rubber deterioration changes with respect to the severity of the DC dry band arcing. It is found that dry band arcing tends to stimulate surface tracking under mild voltage levels and erosion due to thermal degradation under relatively higher voltage levels (critical). Moreover, test results indicate that silicone rubber erosion is not solely influenced by the dry band arcing power derived from the leakage current, but also dependent on additional contributing mechanisms leading to elevated surface temperatures and severe erosion. © 2023 IEEE.

We demonstrate an electrically controlled metal-VO2 metasurface for the mid-wave infrared that simultaneously functions as a tunable optical switch, an optical limiter with a tunable limiting threshold, and a nonlinear optical isolator with a tunable operating range. The tunability is achieved via Joule heating through the metal comprising the metasurface, resulting in an integrated optoelectronic device. As an optical switch, the device has an experimental transmission ratio of ~100 when varying the bias current. Operating as an optical limiter, we demonstrated tunability of the limiting threshold from 20 mW to 180 mW of incident laser power. Similar degrees of tunability are also achieved for nonlinear optical isolation, which enables asymmetric (nonreciprocal) transmission. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Inductors are energy storage devices that serve as key components in power conversion technology. The advent of wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor devices has led to high frequency operation of power converters at higher voltage and current levels. In the range of 20kHz-1MHz, additional sources of loss in magnetic components interfacing to these WBG semiconductors are introduced due to high-frequency electromagnetic phenomena. Finite element analysis can capture these effects to a high degree of accuracy but require extensive computation time precluding their application in robust optimization and design schemes. There exist several analytical models for winding loss in literature that can evaluate multiple designs with minimal computation cost. In this work, popular models are reviewed, investigated, and expanded on in the context of various toroidal winding geometries. The goal of this work is to analyze well-known winding loss models and demonstrate their accuracies at high frequency (beyond 20kHz) as they pertain to toroidal inductors while maintaining the low computation cost required for integration into optimization and design schemes.

Indoor positioning systems (IPS) are gaining higher attention recently due to the increased demand for indoor location aware services. Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology to use for IPS. In particular, received signal strength (RSS) based visible light positioning (VLP) systems are gaining high attention due to their low complexity and cost, in addition to higher positioning accuracy compared to their radio frequency (RF) counterparts. One of the main challenges in RSS based VLP systems is encountered when the receiver (the target) is tilted and not placed in parallel with the transmitters (the anchors). RSS based trilateration techniques require a computationally expensive and time-consuming process to solve the nonlinear problem of tilted receivers. Fingerprint based systems generally provide high positioning accuracy with short positioning time, and maybe used to circumvent the need to deal with the high complexity associated with tilted receivers. However, the design of a fingerprinting VLP system for tilted receiver has not been explored yet as far as receivers with a single photodetector (PD) are concerned. In this work, a fingerprint based VLP system for tilted receivers using artificial neural networks (ANN) is proposed, where different types of input features for training the positioning algorithm are studied. We show that using the components of the normal vector to the PD's surface in addition to RSS values provides an excellent positioning accuracy with an average positioning error of 25.41 cm and a remarkably low average positioning time less than $\mathbf{5} \boldsymbol{\mu} \boldsymbol{s}$ . In addition, important research directions for future work are discussed.

The structural symmetry of solids plays an important role in defining their linear and nonlinear optical properties. The quest for versatile, cost-effective, large-scale, and defect-free approaches and materials platforms for tailoring structural and optical properties on demand has been underway for decades. We experimentally demonstrate a bottom-up self-assembly-based organic engineered material comprised of synthesized molecules with large dipole moments that are crystallized into a spherulite structure. The molecules align in an azimuthal direction, resulting in a vortex polarity with spontaneously broken symmetry leading to strong optical anisotropy and nonlinear optical responses. These unique polarization properties of the judiciously designed organic spherulite combined with the symmetry of structured optical beams enable a plethora of new linear and nonlinear light-matter interactions, including the generation of optical vortex beams with complex spin states and on-demand topological charges at the fundamental, doubled, and tripled frequencies. The results of this work are likely to enable numerous applications in areas such as high-dimensional quantum information processing, with large capacity and high security. The demonstrated spherulite crystals facilitate stand-alone micro-scale devices that rely on the unique micro-scale spontaneous vortex polarity that is likely to enable future applications for high-dimensional quantum information processing, spatiotemporal optical vortices, and a novel platform for optical manipulation and trapping. Layered metal dichalcogenides (LMDs) neuromorphic memristor devices offer a promising alternative toconventional von Neumann architectures, addressing speedand energy efficiency constraints. However, challenges remainin controlling resistive switching and operating voltage incrystalline LMD memristors due to environmental stabilization issues, which hinder neural network hardware development. Herein, we introduce an optimization method formemristor operation by controlling oxidation through ozonetreatment, creating a SnO_(x)/SnS_(2) resistive layer. These optimized memristors demonstrate low switching voltages (~1 V),rapid switching speeds (~20 ns), high switching ratios (10^(2)),and the ability to emulate synaptic weight plasticity. Crosssectional transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy identified defects and Ti conductive filaments in the resistive switching layer, contributingto uniform switching and minimized operating variation. Thedevice achieved 90% accuracy in MNIST handwritten recognition, and hardware-based image convolution was successfully implemented, showcasing the potential of SnO_(x)/SnS_(2)memristors for neuromorphic applications.

Time-dependence of SrVO3 thermionic electron emission properties

Thermionic electron emission cathodes are critical components of various high power and high frequency vacuum electronic devices, electron microscopes, e-beam lithographic devices, and thermionic energy converters, which all demand an efficient and long-lasting low work function cathode. Single phase, polycrystalline perovskite oxide SrVO3, with its intrinsic low effective work function and facile synthesis process, is a promising cathode candidate, where previous works have shown evidence of an effective work function as low as 2.3 eV. However, assessment of the stability over time under conditions relevant for operation and the related interplay of evolving surface chemistry with emission performance are still missing, and necessary for understanding how to best prepare, process and operate SrVO3 cathodes. In this work, we study the vacuum activation process of SrVO3 and find it has promising emission stability over 15 days of continuous high temperature operation. We find that SrVO3 shows surface Sr and O segregation during operation, which we hypothesize is needed to create a positive surface dipole, leading to low effective work function. Emission repeatability from cyclic heating and cooling suggests the promising stability of the low effective work function surface, and additional observations of drift-free emission during one hour of continuous emission testing at high temperature further demonstrates its excellent performance stability.
