An innovative acid-resistant elephant dung biochar powder for fermentative biohydrogen production improvement from food waste slurry

This research investigates the innovative application of elephant dung biochar derived from pyrolysis process as an enhancer for biohydrogen production from food waste by dark fermentation process. In this study, batch fermentation experiments have been performed with elephant dung biochar concentrations from 0 to 20 g/L. The highest yields of biogas and biohydrogen achieved were 83.33 and 12.41 mL/g COD, respectively, with the maximum hydrogen concentration reaching 21.79% at the biochar concentration of 10 g/L. Additionally, the total volatile fatty acids produced after fermentation amounted to 2204 mg/L. This study found that biochar can be used for buffering pH and enhancing metabolic processes on the pathway of VFAs to hydrogen, thereby contributing to improved hydrogen yields. This study has demonstrated that biochar produced from elephant dung can significantly improve hydrogen yield from food waste, while higher concentration of biochar may have inhibitory effects. © 2024 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

This study aims to give an accurate estimate of the effective thermal-mechanical properties of a coreless circuit substrate for advanced IC packages. To achieve the goal, a subdomain-based effective method is proposed, incorporating a sub-domain three-dimensional (3D) copper trace mapping and modeling (TMM) method, a volume-averaging rule of mixture (ROM) technique and finite element modeling. Furthermore, the proposed effective method is combined with an FEA-based process simulation framework to investigate the process-induced warpage of a flip-chip chip scale package during fabrication. At last, parametric analysis is performed to identify the crucial factors influencing the process-induced warpage of the package. © 2023 Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging.

In recent years, the role of semiconductor industry has become crucial for development in various countries. The semiconductor industry mainly consists of three parts: silicon material production, integrated circuit wafer manufacturing, and integrated circuit packaging. This paper focuses on the analysis of the cutting structure of the backend equipment wafer dicing machine in the integrated circuit packaging process. Currently, the mainstream wafer dicing machines utilize two types of cutting methods: laser cutting and mechanical cutting. While laser cutting is necessary for certain materials due to the generation of debris, mechanical cutting using diamond saw blades still offers significant cost savings. In order to achieve optimal design for mechanical wafer dicing machines, this paper presents a design process specifically tailored for such machines that used of mechanical cutting method, taking the example of a vibration-isolated base for a 6-inch wafer dicing machine. © 2023 SPIE.

Impellers are extensively employed across various industrial sectors and in different industrial systems, such as ducted-fan modules. The configuration of ducted-fan modules can be optimized to achieve high impeller performance, safe and stable operation, and high operational efficiency. This study designed two ducted-fan modules with axial impellers composed of airfoil cascades by using the Fan Calculator software program to analyze their performance and efficiency. The study discovered that the module efficiency varied with the internal impeller diameter, external impeller diameter, and rotational speed. An increase in the outlet angle of the blade tip caused increases in the power generated by, pressure change produced in, and flow rate of the modules, thereby enhancing fan efficiency and module performance. The study makes two contributions. First, it constructed two ducted-fan modules with axial impellers by using the duct to isolate the blades, thus increasing the safety and stability of the fan. Second, it explored the performance and efficiency of impellers with airfoil cascades to enhance fan efficiency and optimize the design of a ducted-fan module. © 2024 SPIE.

In the study, a Hybrid Model consisting of T/S parameters and Finite Element Method is proposed to simulate acoustic radiation characteristics of headphones, with verifications based on comparisons with measurement results. In addition to discussing the predictive ability of this model for the acoustic characteristics of microspeaker, Brüel Kjær Head Torso Simulator, artificial ear, and standard IEC 711 coupler were used to simulate and analyze the acoustic characteristics of headphone in pressure field. Moreover, the impact of vented rear chamber on acoustic characteristics is discussed and relevant simulation and measurement results are compared. Based on the results, this Hybrid Model accurately predicts acoustic radiation characteristics of microspeakers, including resonance frequency and edge mode frequency characteristics, in addition to the free field performance of headphone front and rear chambers and the pressure field performance of entire headphone on human head simulator. This predictive ability is especially significant at frequencies below 10 kHz, including the effective elevation of low frequency pressure performance of vented rear chamber at under 200 Hz and the changes in pressure valley values at mid frequency of around 300 Hz. © 2022 IEEE.

After a certain period of usage, the PC requires regular maintenance/adjustment. In this era of true wireless headphone development, in-ear headphones have become widely popular among consumers. Microspeaker driver and chamber design are the key factors for determining headphone frequency response and impedance curve. Acoustic holes on front and rear chambers also play an important role in sound quality. Therefore, much attention is being paid to developing methods that accurately and effectively control for acoustic hole size and placement, as well as for the analysis of their effects on in-ear headphone sound quality. The aims of this study are to construct a simulation and predictive model of in-ear headphone sound quality using commercial finite element software COMSOL Multiphysics and to discuss the changes in and effects on frequency response and impedance curves due to the presence or absence of acoustic holes on front and rear chambers. Finally, parameter analysis of acoustic holes is conducted to determine the relationships of acoustic hole size and placement with sound quality and frequency shift. Based on the results, in-ear headphone acoustic holes mainly affect performance at below 2 kHz, in the mid to low-frequency range. In addition, as acoustic holes are relatively small compared to the cavity geometry, when air in the front chamber flows to an acoustic hole, there is non-negligible impedance. On damping analysis, impedance within the acoustic hole was effectively quantified, with values between 2.0 and 20.0 Pas.s/m. Following introduction of and correction for acoustic hole impedance, there was significant improvement in simulated and measured frequency response values for in-ear headphones at below 1 kHz. Moreover, error was reduced from 5 dB to about 2 dB. At the same time, at 100 Hz, the error of the frequency response curve decreased from 4.5% to 0.18%. From these results, by correcting for acoustic hole impedance, it is possible to effectively improve the sound quality of in-ear headphones with front chamber acoustic holes.

Several types of multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in various industrial activities. UAVs with electric ducted fans (EDFs) have been developed to mitigate the risks associated with rotary blades, which are installed on the exterior structure of conventional UAVs and exposed to the ambient environment. Particularly, vertical EDFs have become a focus in the field of UAV design because they require less space for the flow channel compared with horizontal EDFs. In this study, a vertical EDF UAV model was developed. Structural and flow field analysis was performed in Ansys software to determine the optimal design configuration. The results confirmed that the designed model facilitated smooth air flow with favorable inlet and outlet velocity. The vehicle structure required minor adjustment to reduce the frequency of occurrence of vortices. Overall, this study made two research contributions. First, an EDF UAV model was developed to mitigate the risk of rotary blades being exposed to the ambient environment. Second, a vertical EDF system was proposed to reduce the flow channel space and maintain the outlet velocity, thereby improving the takeoff, landing, and thrust performance of UAVs. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing.
