Modeling to Relate Variables in the Context of Franchises in Brazil

The central objective of the research is to propose a model for the comparative study of the degree of relationship between the variables considered as most relevant in the context of franchises in Brazil. In terms of methodology, the research undertook a qualitative survey of the variables, which in a second phase provided a quantitative framework in order to fulfill the proposed objective, through concepts based on multicriteria methods, performance measurement systems, and linear correlation. Resulting from the practical implementation proposed for the General Food category, it was found that only two constants, denoted “Average Initial Investment” and “Financial Obligations,” are directly related to the base variable defined by “Gross Revenues.” © 2015, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Assessing the Efficiency of Sports in Using Financial Resources with DEA Models

This paper presents and compares two different DEA models used to evaluate the efficiency of Brazilian Olympic Confederations in using the financial funds (from the Agnelo/Piva Law in 2011) e transform them into results, that is, medals. We use two different models, in both models the funds coming from the Agnelo/Piva Law distributed in 2011 is considered as an input, in order to evaluate how efficiently these funds were being converted into results by each one. The main difference between these two models is how each one of them used the data related to the number of gold medals offered by each sport in 2011 Guadalajara Pan American Games and also the data related to the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by each sport during this same competition. The number of gold medals offered represent a proxy for difficulty measure in winning a medal. The first model considered these data as a second input and the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won by each sport were considered as outputs. The second model used only the funds received by each Confederation as an input and it used three outputs, which were formed by a ratio of the first model's output to the number of gold medals offered by each sport. After comparing these models, the results obtained by each one of them are presented and discussed in order to determine the best approach to perform an efficiency evaluation of Olympic sports.

This article aims to propose an application of coaching in agrienergy sector. Given the visible growth in demand for renewable energy sources, and the related need to training professionals to deal with the challenges of this branch of agribusiness, the study shows how the coach, the person who pursues coaching, can act to aid those individuals that have potential to exercise leadership in management of agrienergy. The technological development in healthcare experienced in actual days has relationship with the integration of many knowledge areas, fundamentally by searching new solutions in order to improve the quality of life of the society. Examples of this reality appears in medicine and engineering areas, where the computer-assisted techniques works together to solve many healthcare problems. In the surgical procedures context as well, as in dental implant planning, the surgeon still determine some parameters according to his personal experience, where only the visualization of the problems through Computed Tomography images are not enough to ensure the success of the procedure. Thus, this research aims to propose a computational model, as a decision support tool, in order to define a more appropriate positioning for dental implants. This is a fundamental part to determination of the necessary parameters for the process planning because the information is obtained automatically straight from image processing. The prototype presented in this work comprises a user-friendly interface, which allows dentists to observe the bone and dental structure in multi-perspective images. Also, it determines the implant location by an automatic procedure without intervention of dentist. The text shows a study case with the autonomous determination of an implant position.

Computer numeric control machine tools utilisation by metalworking companies in Brazil

Computer numerical control (CNC) technology has received high level of investment around the world. Considering machine tool for machining operations, almost one third of those installed in Brazilian industrial companies is composed of CNC machines. About 46% of them are less than ten years old and belong to a generation of machine tools that should have a higher density of automation, incorporating features and advanced production techniques that suppose efficient management. However, there is a low rate of utilisation of available resources, such as tool presetting, in-process measurement systems and automatic load and unload to reduce idle time. Additionally, there is a reduced use of techniques to achieve higher maximum cutting speeds and longer tool life. There is also a low rate of use of low environmental-impact techniques such as dry machining, and a very low percentage of companies that treat and reuse cutting oil. In this paper, we present an application of the Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Network (PANnet) in a Statistical Process Control to trigger alarms in an electrical power System. The PANnet is based on Paraconsistent Annotated Logic (PAL) which is a non-classical logic with properties of accepting contradictions in their fundamentals. In this work, we make a joint application technique of Paraconsistent Annotated logic, in the form of PANnet, with the concepts of Statistical Process Control (SPC). The Statistical Process Control Paraconsistent (SCP-PAL) is used in this paper to make a dynamic monitoring of the conditions of the electrical voltage in an electrical power system. To test and validate the functioning of SPC-PAL Controller we use data obtained by random computational processes and we also use a database with actual values generated by a power electrical System of a company installed in Brazil. The SPC-PAL Controller, due to the use of the algorithms of PAL in its construction, has some features that does afford optimized electrical voltage monitoring. The result of the analysis made with the SPC-PAL Controller provides three types of alarms: 1) rapid Variation in the voltage;2) Imbalance of Mean in the Voltage data;3) High dispersion index in the voltage data. Based on these three types of alarms we can obtain a better understanding about the operating state of the electrical power system. In the various tests performed, the SPC-PAL Controller presented a good performance and detected changes in Mean and in the variation of tension, as well as sudden changes in voltage data. © 2015 IEEE.

Social urban sensing is a new paradigm which exploits human-carried or vehicle-mounted sensors to ubiquitously collect data for large-scale urban sensing. A challenge of such scenario is how to transmit sensed data in situations where the networking infrastructure is intermittent or unavailable. In this context, this paper outlines our researches of a novel engine that uses Opportunistic Networks paradigm to underlie the data transmission of social urban sensing applications. It applies Situation awareness, Fuzzy logic and Machine Learning approaches to perform routing and decision-making process. As we know, this is the first paper to use such approaches in Smart Cities area with focus on social sensing application. As well as being original, the results from our simulations signals the way that further research can be carried out in this area.

Aim The urgency for remote, reliable and scalable biodiversity monitoring amidst mounting human pressures on ecosystems has sparked worldwide interest in Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), which can track life underwater and on land. However, we lack a unified methodology to report this sampling effort and a comprehensive overview of PAM coverage to gauge its potential as a global research and monitoring tool. To address this gap, we created the Worldwide Soundscapes project, a collaborative network and growing database comprising metadata from 416 datasets across all realms (terrestrial, marine, freshwater and subterranean). Location Worldwide, 12,343 sites, all ecosystem types. Time Period 1991 to present. Major Taxa Studied All soniferous taxa. Methods We synthesise sampling coverage across spatial, temporal and ecological scales using metadata describing sampling locations, deployment schedules, focal taxa and audio recording parameters. We explore global trends in biological, anthropogenic and geophysical sounds based on 168 selected recordings from 12 ecosystems across all realms. Results Terrestrial sampling is spatially denser (46 sites per million square kilometre—Mkm 2 ) than aquatic sampling (0.3 and 1.8 sites/Mkm 2 in oceans and fresh water) with only two subterranean datasets. Although diel and lunar cycles are well sampled across realms, only marine datasets (55%) comprehensively sample all seasons. Across the 12 ecosystems selected for exploring global acoustic trends, biological sounds showed contrasting diel patterns across ecosystems, declined with distance from the Equator, and were negatively correlated with anthropogenic sounds. Main Conclusions PAM can inform macroecological studies as well as global conservation and phenology syntheses, but representation can be improved by expanding terrestrial taxonomic scope, sampling coverage in the high seas and subterranean ecosystems, and spatio-temporal replication in freshwater habitats. This article presents the possible contributions of production engineering to solidarity economy as regards projects and organization of work. The authors present logistics as the main channel of introduction to planning and organizing solidarity economy, seeking to show that the participation of production engineering leads to a breakage of some strains marked by neoliberalism, making evident the need of serious ecological concerns within the scope of the projects in that sector towards a cleaner production. The authors also point out the impossibility of development of solidarity economy programs without well mapped processes that include environmental impact evaluations and environmental education as pillars of sustainability in any development program. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2014.
