A methodology that combines and integrates the major stages of information systems development is presented. The methodology is based on hierarchical data-flow diagrams which are used to perform a functional analysis of the system. This enables the conducting of process design on the one hand, and information structure analysis and database schema design on the other. Specifically, we describe a method that connects the transactions of the system (the product of the process design stage) with the record-types (the product of database design stage). This connection closes the gap between the "procedural" and "structural" aspects of the system, and enables a smooth transition to the stage of system construction. It also facilitates the designing of sub-systems and their sub-schemas. Software tools that support all stages of the methodology are reviewed, emphasizing the tool DS2DS that connects the transactions with the record-types.

Purpose: Collaborating with startups is a fast track to green technological innovation (GTI) implementation for tech firms. On the other hand, startups’ opportunistic behavior during the collaboration could lead to GTI failure and a waste of tech firms’ investment. Accordingly, it is essential to conduct a dynamic analysis of the evolutionary behavior of tech firms and startups over time. In this regard, under government intervention, we consider a collaborative structure between two populations, including tech firms and startups. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, an evolutionary game structure based on system dynamics was developed to explain the tech firms’ and startups’ evolutionary trends, emphasizing investment mechanisms and the startup’s commitment level through a feedback process. For this purpose, the influence of the startups’green innovative efforts on the system’s evolution under two feedback loops was investigated. Furthermore, the effects of tech firms’ penalty strategies and government intervention on system evolutionary behavior was analyzed. Findings: The simulations revealed that applying the dynamic punishment policy can control the game’s oscillations in the evolutionary model and increase the startup’s and tech firm’s stability rate. When the penalty values change, and the startups’ credibility level is a variable under the impact of the green technological innovation features, it affects the evolutionary behavior of players over time through the positive feedback loop. It was also found that, despite the startups' opportunistic behaviors, effective government interference could raise the tech firms' tendency to invest in startups. Originality/value: Unlike previous studies, we focus on a dynamic analysis approach to investigate the collaborative structure between tech firms and startups. Constrained MUSIC and beamspace MUSIC are similar algorithms in that they both require a priori information about signal directions and they both involve linear transformations on the data. Constrained MUSIC uses precise information regarding the directions of a subset of the signal directions to improve the direction estimates for the remaining signals. Beamspace MUSIC uses approximate knowledge regarding all the signal directions to reduce computational complexity and improve breakdown properties. These two methods can be combined, resulting in constrained beamspace MUSIC. We also perform asymptotic analysis of constrained and unconstrained MUSIC demonstrating that (asymptotically) improved subspace estimates always result from the use of constraints, and (asymptotically) the variance of constrained MUSIC is less than that of unconstrained MUSIC under either high coherence, large numbers of sensors, or high SNR conditions. As a part of this analysis, we study the effects of coherence on MUSIC and derive best/worst case coherences in terms of the variance of MUSIC. We also demonstrate that those conditions where the variance of MUSIC is predicted to be less than that of constrained MUSIC generally correspond to conditions where MUSIC is in breakdown (and constrained MUSIC is not). So, unconstrained MUSIC actually does not achieve its theoretically predicted advantage in those cases. While constrained MUSIC requires precise information about the known signal to improve performance when the unknown signal is very near, it can also offer performance advantages with only approximate knowledge if the unknown and known signals are not too close to each other.
