This article implements the multi-objective grey wolf optimizer (MOGWO) in the identification process of a multivariable system. For a sequence of 100 runs, MOGWO approach had compared and analyzed with the grey wolf optimizer (GWO), the single-objective version. In the computational simulation, the determination coefficient values and mean square error had used to analyze the quality of the models obtained. In the results, MOGWO showed superior to GWO to the differences between the order of magnitude of the system outputs. The implementation shows that MOGWO and other multi-objective metaheuristics can be an alternative method to solve problems of identification processes of multivariable systems.

Ornamental fish are a type of fish that live in freshwater or seawater habitats and are typically maintained for aesthetic purposes, often in ornamental ponds or as household pets. The diversity of colors, shapes, and patterns observed in ornamental fish presents a challenge in their classification. Therefore, a method capable of accurately recognizing the visual characteristics of these fish is required. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of two Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures, specifically VGG-16 and U-Net, using five distinct types of ornamental fish, namely Angel Fish, Betta Fish, Clown Fish, Gold Fish, and Guppy Fish. The dataset comprises 3.240 images that have been processed using TensorFlow and Keras on Google Collaboratory. The results demonstrated that U-Net demonstrated superior performance in segmentation, with an Average Intersection over Union (IoU) of 58.91 % and an Average Dice Coefficient of 73.72%. In contrast, VGG-16 exhibited signs of overfitting, as evidenced by lower evaluation metrics. To enhance the efficacy of the transfer learning model, further optimization is recommended.

Rocket launch centers are crucial in technological development across various fields, including meteorology, long-distance real-time communications, geoprocessing, and satellite operations. However, one of the challenges in tracking probing rockets is accurately identifying their position from the moment of launch until the initial seconds, due to ground noise that interferes with traditional radar location systems. In this study is proposed an innovative method to precisely determine the distance between the rocket and the ground telemetry station. We utilize onboard telemetry signals processed by the Acquisition and Processing Data Trajectory (APDtraj) system, developed by Delsis Aerospace for the Launch Center. This system enables the identification of the rocket's position both on the ground and during the early stages of flight, using telemetry data processed by APDtraj. This monitoring equipment alone calculated the distance between the Telemetry Station and the rocket just moments before launch lift-off with an error of only 16.844 meters from the actual position of origin. Based on our studies, we were able to measure the radial distance and location between the rocket and the telemetry station just four seconds after launch, even without reliable radar information, which is often disrupted by ground noise. This technological advancement not only enhances the efficiency of rocket launch operations but also expands overall tracking capabilities.

With the recent digitization, electronic equipment housings are required to be thin-walled and have rigidity, heat dissipation, corrosion resistance, and electromagnetic shielding properties. Magnesium alloys are promising materials that satisfy these requirements. Mg-Al alloys have good castability and high strength, but their thermal conductivity decreases. In general, adding alloying elements to magnesium decreases thermal conductivity the effect of aluminum addition is significant. It was found that adding calcium to Mg-Al alloys to form Mg-Al-Ca (AX) alloys results in higher thermal conductivity than that of Mg-Al alloys. However, AX alloys have poor corrosion resistance and require post-treatment such as surface treatment. In this study, AX64, which has high thermal conductivity among the AX series alloys, was used as the basic composition, and corrosion resistance was improved by adding manganese and misch metal, and an attempt was made to improve corrosion resistance and emissivity through surface treatment. The change in thermal conductivity by heat treatment was also investigated. Experimental results showed that the addition of manganese and misch metal improved corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity. Plasma anodization also improved corrosion resistance and emissivity. Heat treatment of these alloys at 400°C improved the thermal conductivity with longer holding time. © 2023 The Japan Institute of Light Metals.

A skeletonized water distribution system (WDS) model plays an important role in decision making process for its design and operations in planning phase. Given energy is the main driving force to operate a WDS efficiently and with the recent hikes in energy price, the investigation of energy flow in WDS is much more important than ever before. While a skeletonized network is easy to handle and takes less amount of time to run, it should represent the real-world scenario including the demand and hydraulics as accurately as possible. Failure to represent real-world scenario can mislead design and operational decisions including energy consumptions and delivery pressure. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the energy flow in a WDS varies with the extent of the skeletonized network. Keeping the total demand constant for a network and the spatial distribution of the demand within a range in the skeletonized networks, how the energy consumption at the pump station, energy loss in the pipe, and the energy storage in the tank vary with the size of the skeletonized networks are investigated in this study. Energy balance model has been set up for each skeletonized model to observe the impact on energy flow for a series of models. Since the number of pipes and nodes can impact hydraulics, which eventually impact the energy flow, the paper considers two types of networks: branch and loop water distribution systems. The study has been applied to two hypothetical literature networks. Due to skeletonization, the flow pattern in the loop system changes more than that in the branch system causing higher percentage change of frictional energy loss in the loop system. The energy consumption or loss per unit demand per node in the skeletonized networks is found almost linear for the branch system. Hand Gesture Recognition (HGR) is a form of perceptual computing with applications in human-machine interaction, virtual/augmented reality, and human behavior analysis. Within the HGR domain, several frameworks have been developed with different combinations of input modalities and network architectures with varying levels of efficacy. Such frameworks maximized performance at the expense of increased hardware and computational requirements. These drawbacks can be tackled by transforming the relatively complex dynamic hand gesture recognition task into a simpler image classification task. This paper presents a skeleton-based HGR framework that implements data-level fusion for encoding spatiotemporal information from dynamic gestures into static representational images. Said static images are subsequently processed by a custom, end-to-end trainable multi-stream CNN architecture for gesture classification. Our framework reduces the hardware and computational requirements of the HGR task while remaining competitive with the state-of-the-art on the CNR, FPHA, LMDHG, SHREC2017, and DHG142S benchmark datasets. We demonstrated the practical utility of our framework by creating a lightweight real-time application that makes use of skeleton data extracted from RGB video streams captured by a standard inbuilt PC webcam. The application operates successfully with minimal CPU and RAM footprint while achieving 93.46% classification accuracy with approximately 2s latency at 15 frames per second.

Gastroenteritis is a common gastrointestinal disorder with varying degrees of severity, including cases without dehydration, mild dehydration, moderate dehydration, and severe dehydration. This research focuses on the development of a mobile-based expert system for detecting gastroenteritis, capable of distinguishing between these different dehydration levels. The methodology employed integrates the Extreme Structure Development Life Cycle (ESDLC) and the Best First Search algorithm. The expert system is designed to provide swift and accurate responses to users inputting symptoms, categorizing gastroenteritis cases based on the severity of dehydration. The application of ESDLC ensures a structured and organized development process, while the Best First Search method enhances the efficiency of the diagnostic process, facilitating timely and precise recommendations. Accessible through mobile platforms, the system allows users to input symptoms conveniently and receive rapid recommendations. Rigorous testing and evaluation affirm the system's high accuracy in discerning dehydration levels in gastroenteritis patients. In conclusion, the developed mobile-based expert system exhibits promising potential for advancing diagnostic services, particularly in the categorization of dehydration levels in gastroenteritis cases. The successful implementation of ESDLC and Best First Search paves the way for similar solutions in other healthcare domains, contributing positively to early and accurate disease management efforts. This innovation marks a significant stride towards improving healthcare technology for enhanced decision support in gastroenteritis diagnosis.

We propose a visible light communication system using a commercial camera that achieves communication and positioning simultaneously, which is essential for intelligent transport systems (ITS). The transmitter (Tx) emits the data as fast-blinking light of the LED. The receiver (Rx) captures the signal using a rolling-shutter sensor with a cross-screen filter. Different from the previous system without a cross-screen filter, which can only achieve short-range and single-user communication, the proposed system can achieve long-range communication by diffusing the incoming light in a specific direction using a cross-screen filter. Furthermore, the proposed system has the potential to achieve multi-user communication and positioning, which used to require a high-speed camera, using a commercial camera. We evaluated the performance of the proposed system in indoor experiments. The experimental results suggest that the proposed system can improve communication range compared to the previous system. © 2021 IEEE.
