In 2015, the Ministry of Energy created a wholesale electricity market in Mexico. As a result, the country shifted from a vertically integrated regulation to a competitive market framework. In this context, the day-ahead market is essential to plan better the generation and sales of energy. This paper evaluates a hydro-thermal security-constrained unit commitment model and its solution method. The objective function determines the maximum economic surplus of the participants in the market. The problem is modeled as a mixed-integer non-linear programming incorporating real-world constraints from the particular problem and a hydropower generator function non-linear features. A decomposition approach that solves a master problem and a series of subproblems is developed. Furthermore, a new component has been added to deal with the non-linear features of the hydropower generator function using a first-order Taylor's approximation. Simulation results are presented starting by solving a representative case of the electricity market in Mexico, demonstrating its use. Moreover, to evaluate the performance, multiple instances are created from publicly available information on the day-ahead market in Mexico. The model can be helpful in markets with sizable hydropower sources to obtain a more accurate and timely system operation scheduling. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

There is a growing support from data management and analysis in the clinical and operational support at health services, impacting positively the patient outcome. Studies report that data management provides gains in productivity and raises the value of health services [1]. In this context, the interoperability of information systems (IS) at the environment of health services assumes an important role in spreading information and supporting different activities and procedures. The Brazilian government, through its Unified Health System (Sistema Unico de Saude - SUS), aimed to support and organize the growing use of data technology in the healthcare sector, formalizing protocols and concepts of interoperability used in both public and private health systems. Through applying this MF, it is expected to identify the state of interoperability at Brazilian healthcare institutions, defining a comparative scenario that allows the alignment of efforts in its strategic development in healthcare services, benefiting users and healthcare network. © 2024 The Author(s). Environmental awareness has recently emerged as one of the most crucial topics. As a result, various groups advocate for these technologies and research ways to promote their usage in various contexts. This study examines the factors influencing the intention and use of green technology among academics. This study integrates Price Value (PV) and Consideration of future consequence (CFC) to Theory Planned Behavior (TPB) as a theoretical basis. Two hundred five valid replies were gathered and processed through statistical analysis. The results of this study partly support the developed hypotheses. Four hypotheses developed from TPB have presented significant relationships. However, PV and CFC were not. The findings indicate that individuals in this study did not consider CFC or PV of green IT products as critical factors in their decision-making process. Findings also suggest that for implementation success, competent parties must consider the campaign to increase individual awareness and provide financial support regarding environmental policy. © 2023 IEEE.

The technological paradigm shift is supporting the digital transformation of manufacturing, characterized by emerging industry 4.0 technologies, and the inherent complexity in selecting appropriate technologies. This increasing complexity of technologies, the multiple and conflicting decision criteria, and the abundance of technology alternatives demand a structured process for managers to select technologies to be acquired and implemented. This work derived from the observation of a real problem in a recognized world class automaker company. The identified problem consists in a lack of a consolidated process (procedure) to support managers and specialists in selecting industry 4.0 technologies. This paper aims at extending theory concerning technology management and selection, by proposing a research agenda regarding the solution for the defined problem. A systematic literature review (SLR) is performed to support it, comprising the analysis and synthesis of a review portfolio. The construction of a structured procedure for industry 4.0 technology selection would serve two purposes: (i) to identify the most suitable technology to solve a specific problem, (ii) to support the creation of a technology roadmap to ground a long-term investment plan. The procedure should be able to deal with both purposes to support firms in a digital transformation journey, enabling an objective, rational and traceable decision-making process. © 2021 IISE Annual Conference and Expo 2021. This paper proposes a discrete-time Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC), applied to a Half-Bridge synchronous buck converter for charging batteries. The system uses an LCL filter that interfaces the power converter and the batteries. A virtual plant method is proposed for better transitory response of the adaptive control system. The model reference utilizes a reduced order, to simplify the project of the adaptive controller. Simulation results are presented for validation of the control project. © 2024 IEEE.

Barriers to the participation of distributed energy resources (DERs) in wholesale electricity markets have limited the use of DERs for power system security and resilience. In September 2020, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved an order to reduce these barriers. FERC Order No. 2222 enables the participation of DER aggregators in wholesale electricity markets. DERs include renewable generation and technologies that support the integration of renewable generation by increasing grid flexibility and resilience. Requiring wholesale energy markets to allow DER aggregator participation provides a path for DERs to become competitive in these markets. As the contribution from aggregated DERs continues to increase, the aggregator's role in supporting grid security and resilience will become more critical. This paper reviews work that demonstrates how DER aggregators can provide resilience support through technical capabilities, operational strategies, and secure communication architectures. Socioeconomic influences and impacts of aggregators, including implications for social resilience, are presented. In surveying the current state-of-the-art across different but interconnected topics, we illustrate how aggregators can be power system participants that enhance grid security. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to enhancing resilience in a power grid that includes a growing cohort of DER aggregators, but there are many options for aggregators to contribute to a more resilient and secure power grid. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper describes the ECO-LÓGICA prototype, a useful tool for the decision-making process related to air pollution. The ECO-LÓGICA system can generate a wide range of reports, including those based on real data collected through the monitoring of carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, it employs a specialized neural network to predict future air pollution values resulting from these emissions. The performance of the prototype was validated using data supplied by three Colombian environmental monitoring stations. The applied metrics reach values close to the maximums, demonstrating adequate performance.

Predicting earthquake occurrences in time series data remains a challenging task in seismology. NARX (Nonlinear Autoregressive with eXogenous input) neural networks have recently shown promise for accurate predictions. While previous research has demonstrated NARX's effectiveness in estimating earthquake frequencies, the architecture still relies on several pre-determined parameters. These parameters include the number of hidden layers, number of neurons, and delay time. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Ensemble Deep Learning NARX neural networks in predicting time series of earthquakes. The proposed ensemble model integrates multiple NARX neural networks, each trained on a distinct subset of earthquake data. This approach aims to enhance prediction accuracy and bolster model robustness. The dataset consists of time series records detailing earthquake occurrence frequencies and magnitudes. The results show performance evaluation metrics in terms of Mean Square Error (MSE) values. For training frequency data, the MSE is 4.10e-26, and for testing, it is 6.05e-22. Regarding training magnitude data, the MSE is 2.86e-21 for training and 3.17e-19 for testing. This study makes a valuable contribution to the advancement of earthquake prediction techniques, underscoring the potential of Ensemble Deep Learning NARX neural networks for precise time series estimation in seismology.

In today’s complex global environments, it is highly challenging to achieve effective healthcare management. The critical challenges faced by healthcare management are being met by the revolution of m-health where mobile cloud computing plays a major role. The taxonomy of mobile computing comprises operational aspects, end-user issues, and service quality and mobility management. The use of smartphone technologies and applications has become a highly significant approach to improving healthcare management. Mobile health services such as mobile pathology, mobile neurosurgery, cancer treatment, and behavioral/psychological disorders are gaining significance where smartphone applications are being used. Portability, flexibility, and convenience are major characteristics of mobile computing that have helped patients and doctors to develop better relationships through coordination and communication. The relationship between smartphone technologies and applications and healthcare management can be understood in several broad aspects. This article aims to analyze the current and future implications of these technologies on healthcare and disease management systems.

This study introduces three novel dynamic interval-valued principal component analysis (DIPCA) methods: dynamic centers PCA (D-CPCA), dynamic vertices PCA (D-VPCA), and dynamic complete information PCA (D-CIPCA). These methods advance traditional interval-valued PCA (IPCA) by integrating dynamic aspects of industrial processes, thus addressing both data uncertainties and temporal correlations. The DIPCA methods were validated using real-world data from the Ain El Kebira cement plant. Results indicate significant improvements in fault detection accuracy, achieving lower false alarm rates and higher reliability compared to classical IPCA methods. Furthermore, an enhanced combined index for interval-valued data was developed, providing a single, comprehensive statistical measure for streamlined process monitoring.
