The number of heart transplants is constantly increasing. Each year, it grows by around 60% due to the health problems plaguing the world's population. Furthermore, the lack of available transplanted organs and the waiting list greatly increases and can last for years. All these reasons make it increasingly difficult to get a heart transplant. Solutions such as artificial organs are gaining more and more prominence and are in great demand. Considering the advancement of science and technology, new research shows great hope in prolonging and improving the quality of life for many patients. Among these researches is the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), which uses auxiliary pumps along with the natural heart of the person, allowing a longer waiting time in the transplant queue and giving a quality of life. This work aims to implement autonomous electronic control over this device, allowing autonomous speed control over the pump motor. This method gives patients better control and greater freedom to practice their daily lives. Another important reason is the economic factor, which aims to reduce costs and allow greater popular reach. In this work, the tests were carried out on only the Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDC). The results are demonstrated in numerical and graphic form for better illustration.

This study investigates significant patterns of violence against women in Pernambuco using Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) and the Apriori algorithm. The methodology includes trend analysis, clustering, and association rule mining, utilizing data from the Ministério da Mulher covering 2015 to 2021. The exploratory data analysis identified demographic, temporal, and spatial trends in violence. SOM was employed for dimensionality reduction and clustering, revealing three clusters representing 5.24%, 19.68%, and 75.08% of the dataset, respectively. The Apriori algorithm was applied to yearly subsets of each cluster to uncover relevant association patterns. Our findings highlight key characteristics and temporal dynamics of violence, supporting the development of targeted interventions and support systems.

Currently, the process of monitoring children’s growth in Indonesia relies on manual methods for collecting anthropometric data. These methods pose a risk of data recording errors. Additionally, the ratio of healthcare workers to children in Indonesia is 1:90, a significant disparity that hinders efforts to reduce the prevalence of stunting in the country. To support the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which emphasizes “Good Health and Well-being,” it is crucial to address issues in the stunting management process, from data collection to monitoring. The design and development of this iOS-based mobile application aim to assist in monitoring child growth and provide guidance and steps for prevention and treatment. Besides application development, it also involves the design and development of an Internet of Things (IoT) system to aid in the collection of children’s anthropometric data. The research methodology includes studying stunting cases in Indonesia, anthropometric data calculation methods, stunting prevention and management steps, application design and development, automatic anthropometric data collection, and online data storage and transmission using IoT technology. The developed application and system have been tested and successfully integrated. The IoT device has an accuracy rate of 99.83% for weight measurement calibration and 98.68% for height or length measurement calibration. From the testing results of the child condition calculation method in the application, an accuracy rate of 100% was achieved.

Obstacle removal in crowd evacuation is critical to safety and the evacuation system efficiency. Recently, manyresearchers proposed game theoreticmodels to avoid and remove obstacles for crowd evacuation. Game theoreticalmodels aim to study and analyze the strategic behaviors of individuals within a crowd and their interactionsduring the evacuation. Game theoretical models have some limitations in the context of crowd evacuation. Thesemodels consider a group of individuals as homogeneous objects with the same goals, involve complex mathematicalformulation, and cannot model real-world scenarios such as panic, environmental information, crowds that movedynamically, etc. The proposed work presents a game theoretic model integrating an agent-based model to removethe obstacles from exits. The proposed model considered the parameters named: (1) obstacle size, length, andwidth, (2) removal time, (3) evacuation time, (4) crowd density, (5) obstacle identification, and (6) route *** proposed work conducts various experiments considering different conditions, such as obstacle types, obstacleremoval, and several obstacles. Evaluation results show the proposed model’s effectiveness compared with existingliterature in reducing the overall evacuation time, cell selection, and obstacle removal. The study is potentially usefulfor public safety situations such as emergency evacuations during disasters and calamities.

This study presents the design of a user-centered data visualization dashboard for stroke rehabilitation, which integrates the principles of visualization data analytics techniques in the field of healthcare. Addressing the complexities of visualizing for robotic bimanual rehabilitation, the design introduces novel methods to enhance data visualization, broadening monitoring capabilities, and improving the clarity of torque data. These enhancements lead to a clearer understanding of patient robot interactions. A prototype has been developed to visualize transparent torque data from a bimanual master slave robotic system, enabling healthcare professionals to monitor patient progress effectively. The dashboard features intuitive visual representations of master, slave, and assistive torques, simulating elbow joint movements through line and sunburst charts. Feedback from rehabilitation therapists during the design process ensures that the visualization approach is aligned with clinical needs. The findings suggest that the system can assist physiotherapists in devising personalized treatment strategies by providing actionable insights from the recorded data. However, additional research is needed to integrate real clinical data into the system for further enhancement and validation. This innovation has the potential to significantly improve stroke rehabilitation effectiveness and patient outcomes through a bimanual rehabilitation visualization and decision support system. © 2024 IEEE.

Density Functional Theory Study of Surface Stability and Phase Diagram of Orthorhombic CsPbI3

CsPbI3 has been recognized as a promising candidate for optoelectronic device applications. To further improve the efficiency of the devices, it is imperative to better understand the surface properties of CsPbI3, which affect charge carrier transport and defect formation properties. In this study, we perform density functional theory calculations to explore the stability of the (001), (110), and (100) surfaces of orthorhombic CsPbI3, considering different stoichiometries and surface reconstructions. Our results show that, under the chemical potentials confined by the thermodynamically stable region of bulk CsPbI3, the CsI-terminated surfaces of (001) and (110) and the stoichiometric surface of (100) are stable. Among these three surfaces, the CsI-terminated (110) surface has the lowest surface energy and no mid-gap states, which benefits the transport properties of the material. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

The effect of the cyclic curricular design of modelling-based instruction with virtual labs

One issue facing teachers who implement model-based instruction within the school system is the tight curricular schedule. The ‘lesson objective tension’ calls for investigations to address instructional issues such as how to organise modelling-based instruction at the curriculum level which is across multiple units. We investigated the effect of the cyclic curricular design spacing out three modelling-based instruction units with virtual labs over three semesters, each involving 73, 181, and 150 junior high school students, respectively. Results indicate that, overall, the approach of modelling with virtual labs better promoted students’ scientific literacy than the traditional instruction did. Specifically, students with low and moderate school science achievements benefitted more as shown in their scientific literacy scores than did the high achievement students. Furthermore, this study found that receiving one unit of modelling-based instruction may not be sufficient to promote students’ scientific literacy, whereas the cyclic approach that suggests students receive two or more units of modelling-based instruction with virtual labs spaced over consecutive semesters had significant effects on promoting students’ scientific literacy. The results provide insights into when and how modelling-based learning with virtual labs can promote scientific literacy at a curricular level. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Agriculture is a vital industry for the people of Indonesia, but there are several obstacles, including limited space in urban areas and inefficient conventional sorting and harvesting methods. Using computer vision to choose hydroponic lettuce that is ready to be harvested and a robotic arm to bring the selected lettuce yields, the produced system aims to solve this problem. The system's computer vision algorithms include color space conversion, intensity transformation, and an algorithm for following borders. This project's research methodology combines a quantitative approach with an experimental approach, which consists of conducting several trials on the built system. Several trials demonstrated that the computer vision software was able to accomplish the specified objectives. The average success rate of the developed computer vision system is 93%, while the average success rate of the robot arm is 85%.

This paper shows that the aerodynamic effects can be compensated in a quadrotor system by means of a control allocation approach using neural ***,the system performance can be improved by replacing the classic allocation matrix,without using the aerodynamic inflow equations *** network training is performed offline,which requires low computational *** target system is a Parrot MAMBO drone whose flight control is composed of PD-PID controllers followed by the proposed neural network control allocation *** a quadrotor is particularly susceptible to the aerodynamics effects of interest to this work,because of its small *** compared the mechanical torques commanded by the flight controller,i.e.,the control input,to those actually generated by the actuators and established at the *** was observed that the proposed neural network was able to closely match them,while the classic allocation matrix could not achieve *** allocation error was also determined in both ***,the closed-loop performance also improved with the use of the proposed neural network control allocation,as well as the quality of the thrust and torque signals,in which we perceived a much less noisy behavior.

A super-resolution electromagnetic inversion scheme is proposed for brain stroke detection. The scheme operates in two stages: (i) A quantitative Gauss-Newton method with Tikhonov regularization and frequency-hopping is employed to get a low-resolution inversion result. (ii) A U-Net-based super-resolution method is used to significantly enhance the spatial resolution of the inversion result from (i), The proposed scheme is demonstrated through several numerical examples, highlighting its effectiveness in accurately reconstructing the brain's permittivity and conductivity profiles, thereby contributing to advancements in stroke diagnosis.
