IoT technologies can facilitate machine-to-machine as well as human-to-machine interactions. Use of an automotive human-machine interface can help in exchanging information between vehicles and passengers or drivers. Organizations in automobile sector are using these technologies for providing their customers with seamless customer-experience, which has helped not only in enhancing profitability of the organization;however also in enhancing customer base. An advanced speech-recognition technology is used in the cars for automation of different functions that ensures extraordinary experience for a driver. This requires adoption of an advanced industrial user-interface that connects the human with the machine actively. Present study has analyzed the ways IoT has played a significant role in making human-to-machine interaction possible in automobile industry. In literature-review, different concepts and theories support the impact of IoT in improving human-machine interactions in automobile industry. This chapter has further analyzed the challenges related to the use of this technology. In methodology section of current study, the ways data has been collected in the study has been analyzed. In findings-section, objectives and variables of the study have been considered for designing relevant themes for providing proper insight into the effectiveness of IoT technologies in improving human -machine interactions in automobile industry. The findings section reveals that IoT usage in this industry can enhance customer-experience by improving human-machine interactions especially when using IoT-enabled cars. It has provided proper suggestions regarding the best ways of utilizing IoT in this sector while ensuring reduction of possible risks. © 2022 IEEE.

The World is developing at a tremendous pace which has been catapulted by large-scale technological advancements. Building mega structures has never been easier and modes of commute have also developed thereby shortening travel-time. Such advancements have also brought along newer sources of pollution which are harming our planet at an even faster pace. Sound pollution is one such agent that has a long-term effect on not only humans but the entire biodiversity. Its effect on life is not immediately observed but the damage becomes visible over time. Birds are one of the most affected creatures due to sound pollution. This is one of the major reasons for declining bird population in the Urban areas. It is very important to preserve biodiversity for a sustainable future. Animals have calls that are melodious and rhythmic and these calls tend to change when they are in distress. An automated system can be very useful in this context which can monitor animal sounds and detect changes in their calls. Deployment of such a system in Urban areas is challenging due to the presence of ambient sounds which is extremely diverse. Thus it is essential to initially detect animal calls in the Urban environment prior to monitoring them. ChiBa is a system proposed to address this problem. Experiments were initially performed with the detection of birds and dogs (the most common and loudest creatures in cities) calls in the Urban environment. Tests were performed with over 7K clips comprising of the animal calls as well as Urban ambient sounds. The audios were modeled using a deep learning-based approach wherein the highest accuracy of 99.91% was obtained. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Data-Driven Incentive Mechanisms for Federated Learning in Vehicular Networks

Centralized machine learning algorithms in vehicular networks face privacy and resource constraints. Federated Learning (FL) addresses these by enabling collaborative model training without sharing raw data. To incentivize vehicle participation despite resource constraints, we propose a contract between Roadside Units (RSUs) and vehicles, specifying required computation resources and rewards based on local data quality. The contract is designed to maximize the utility of the RSU, subject to constraints that ensure the participation of the vehicles in the task and truthful reporting of their data quality parameter. However, designing an optimal contract with classical methods is limited to specific utility functions. To extend the design methodology of optimal contracts to a broader range of utility functions, our study proposes a deep learning-based solution. Specifically, we present a novel application of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), marking the first instance of applying DNNs in contract theory-based incentive mechanisms to achieve nearoptimal contracts. We design the DNN's structure to inherently satisfy specific constraints of the optimization problem, enhancing its efficiency and accuracy in determining the optimal contract. We utilize an augmented Lagrangian method to approximate the optimal contract in federated learning tasks. A case study on traffic sign recognition demonstrates the applicability and effectiveness of our method. Comparing our approach with the well-known generative diffusion model shows that in the FL scenarios, the DNN results are closer to the optimal contract compared to those of the generative diffusion model. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

A text encoder within Vision-Language Models (VLMs) like CLIP plays a crucial role in translating textual input into an embedding space shared with images, thereby facilitating the interpretative analysis of vision tasks through natural language. Despite the varying significance of different textual elements within a sentence depending on the context, efforts to account for variation of importance in constructing text embeddings have been lacking. We propose a framework of Semantic Token Reweighting to build Interpretable text embeddings (SToRI), which incorporates controllability as well. SToRI refines the text encoding process in CLIP by differentially weighting semantic elements based on contextual importance, enabling finer control over emphasis responsive to data-driven insights and user preferences. The efficacy of SToRI is demonstrated through comprehensive experiments on few-shot image classification and image retrieval tailored to user preferences. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

One-class classification aims to learn one-class models from only in-class training samples. Because of lacking out-of-class samples during training, most conventional deep learning based methods suffer from the feature collapse problem. In contrast, contrastive learning based methods can learn features from only in-class samples but are hard to be end-to-end trained with one-class models. To address the aforementioned problems, we propose alternating direction method of multipliers based sparse representation network (ADMM-SRNet). ADMM-SRNet contains the heterogeneous contrastive feature (HCF) network and the sparse dictionary (SD) network. The HCF network learns in-class heterogeneous contrastive features by using contrastive learning with heterogeneous augmentations. Then, the SD network models the distributions of the in-class training samples by using dictionaries computed based on ADMM. By coupling the HCF network, SD network and the proposed loss functions, our method can effectively learn discriminative features and one-class models of the in-class training samples in an end-to-end trainable manner. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100 and ImageNet-30 datasets under one-class classification settings. Data acquisition systems are commonplace in the current era of digitalization and Industry 4.0. These systems are typically used to obtain data from sensors, whether analog or digital, which is then stored for processing in subsequent stages. However, the implementation of hardware for creating data acquisition systems can be challenging due to constraints such as laboratory facilities, budget limitations, and other factors. Therefore, in this research, SimulIDE simulation software was employed to simulate electronic components and the Arduino Uno. To make this virtual Arduino appear as a physical one to the host computer, PyVirtualSerialPorts was used as a virtual serial port. The data acquisition system was created using Python programming with several key features: it can store data in CSV format, present data plots and graphs, and display the frequency spectrum of signals. The system achieved a sampling speed of 1000 data points per second, with input signals limited to a maximum of 10 Hz. This study also shows that signal distortion can occur due to excessively frequent data plotting and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) processing. Therefore, the use of SimulIDE simulator, virtual serial port, and Python can be utilized in the learning process of a simple data acquisition system.

As the dengue infection still impacts hundreds of millions of people globally, unprecedented efforts in dengue drug development have been more progressive in recent decades. Computational methods provide a fast, sustainable, and efficient screening of active compounds and newly created drug molecules, including those specifically targeting nonstructural proteins (NS) of dengue viruses. In this work, protein modeling for the NS proteins of DENV-2/16681 strain was performed using a template-based homology modeling for the NS3 protein and an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based prediction via AlphaFold for the NS4B protein. Moreover, the protein-protein interaction between the two structures was predicted using the HADDOCK server, which employs information about active and passive residues of the interaction interface to guide the docking process. After the modeling and its respective refinement process, the predicted structures of NS3 and NS4B improved their steric clashing scoring from MolProbity assessment. The refined models were then docked, and the resulting docking pose was analyzed to extract the interacting residues based on the polar contacts within the interface of the two proteins. Our result presents a preliminary study to create a dataset related to in silico molecular interactions of the NS3-NS4B interaction of different DENV types. It is helpful for building a computational pipeline for elucidating protein-ligand problems in dengue drug screenings. © 2024 The Authors.

The number of songs is increasing at an explosive rate which has led to the development of automatic song categorization systems. Songs are categorized in different ways like genre, artist, beats per minute (BPM), etc. It is also very important to categorize songs based on their emotional content as the audience often prefers songs of a particular mood. The lyrics of a song become available online instantly after the release of the song itself. This sets the stage for an automated song classification system based on lyrics. In this paper, a system is presented to address this problem. The system was tested with 400 songs from 2 categories namely happy and sad. The dataset was composed of disparate artists, genres, and timelines wherein the highest accuracy of 83.25% was obtained using a heterogeneous ensemble learning-based approach. © 2023 IEEE.

The phenomenon of urbanization in Indonesia is inevitable. The new residential and economic centers in suburban areas is also a problem in city development. The gradual planning and development of smart cities in a living lab require consideration of the right location for a living lab. This study wants to show that suburban areas as city buffer zones can become living laboratories for smart city development. The diversity of situations in cities and regencies across Indonesia, the potential for resources, and the problems faced are the challenges of developing a living lab-Garuda Smart City Framework. This research uses the method of reviewing the literature of research publications for the last five years (2019-2023) to obtain information on Smart City development in Indonesia. We collected selected articles from databases in Google Scholar, IEEE, and Scopus using the Publish and Perish 8. The search keywords used were garuda AND Smart city AND Framework. The findings show the potential and dynamics of buffer zones to become appropriate living laboratories. Smart city regional planning can more holistically involve neighborhoods and address urban issues. © 2023 IEEE.

Malaria is a parasitic infection spread by the plasmodium parasite. Malaria continues to be a major threat to world health, with an estimated 200 million cases and over 400,000 fatalities each year. When exposed to this disease, symptoms develop 10-15 days after the parasite enters the body. This disease becomes chronic if it is not treated medically, and it eventually leads to death. Using spatial information collected from microscopic images, several techniques based on image processing and machine learning have been utilized to diagnose malaria. Using the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) texture feature as a feature extraction approach, this study contributes to the development of a predictive and high-accuracy deep learning model by testing multiple Deep Learning models and determining which model delivers the best accuracy. To be specific, we tested frequently used baseline methods, namely ResNet34, VGG16, Inception V3, and EfficientNet. The results demonstrate that EfficientNet has a 91 percent outstanding accuracy rate, compared to 87 percent for VGG16, 81 percent for Resnet34, and 77 percent for InceptionV3, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.
