In offshore aquaculture operations, personnel equipped with diving gear are often necessary to inspect the underwater net cages for damage, particularly on the sea floor. This manual inspection process is time-consuming and complex. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a computer vision solution for identifying damage in underwater net cages to address the inefficiencies and challenges of traditional manual inspections. The proposed scheme utilizes a high-performance multi-branch computational architecture designed based on ShuffleNet architecture to detect net cage damage more efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate that this work performs well on the ImageNet ILSVRC-2010 dataset and achieves an accuracy of 88.54% in underwater net damage detection.

The amount of data processed in the cloud, the development of Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications, and growing data privacy concerns force the transition from cloud-based to edge-based processing. Limited energy and computational resources on edge push the transition from traditional von Neumann architectures to In-memory Computing (IMC), especially for machine learning and neural network applications. Network compression techniques are applied to implement a neural network on limited hardware resources. Quantization is one of the most efficient network compression techniques allowing to reduce the memory footprint, latency, and energy consumption. This paper provides a comprehensive review of IMC-based Quantized Neural Networks (QNN) and links software-based quantization approaches to IMC hardware implementation. Moreover, open challenges, QNN design requirements, recommendations, and perspectives along with an IMC-based QNN hardware roadmap are provided. © 2023, CC BY.

The rapid population growth and industrial development in developing countries harm the agricultural sector because many agricultural lands are converted into residential or industrial areas. Applying modern agriculture technologies such as hydroponic could help to overcome the problem. However, hydroponics requires special attention in adjusting the pH and nutrient levels to maximize plant growth, so an automated system is needed to manage the process. In this research, a smart hydroponic system is proposed by applying Adaptive Networkbased Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Internet-of-Things. The IoT system consists of sensor, actuator, and data processing layer is designed to monitor and control the condition of pH and nutrition of the observed plants. Then, the ANFIS algorithm is designed to control the level of pH and nutrition. The experiment results show that the system can automatically adjust the pH and nutrient levels to the expected range for growing plants, and the fuzzy controller made using ANFIS are more accurate and stable than the fuzzy controller made using Sugeno. This study shows that ANFIS has excellent performance when controlling multiple actuators, as long as the data set has great granularity and well defined. © 2022 IEEE.

A subscription movie streaming service from the United States, Netflix, has been present in Indonesia since 2016 and provides a wide variety of films without showing any single advertisements that can be viewed from anywhere, as long as there is access to the internet. Despite these advantages, many users have complained through the Google Play Store's comments column. Some of the common complaints include frequent buffering and connectivity issues, dissatisfaction with the limited selection of Indonesian movies, lack of subtitles for specific languages, or pricing concerns have also been raised. In this study developed two combined scenario methods using the InSet and SentiStrength-id dictionary to obtain better performance and compare them against independent InSet and SentiStrength-id. This study collected users' comments for the Netflix app in the Google Play Store as a dataset using web scraping techniques through the Google Collaboration tool. The dataset contains 3250 rows spanning the period from January 22, 2024, through June 6, 2024. To ensure proper processing of the text, data cleaning, lowercasing, normalization, tokenization, stemming, and stopwords removal are conducted. The results show that most user opinions are negative. The InSet dictionary has an accuracy of 92%, SentiStrength-id 78%, Combined scenario 1 is 87%, and scenario 2 reaches the highest among others which is 92.52%. © 2024 IEEE.

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown remarkable cognitive capabilities in various cross-modal tasks. However, existing MLLMs struggle with tasks that require physical digital cognition, such as accurately reading an electric meter or pressure gauge. This limitation significantly reduces their effectiveness in practical applications like industrial monitoring and home energy management, where digital sensors are not feasible. For humans, physical digits are artificially defined quantities presented on specific carriers, which require training to recognize. As existing MLLMs are only pre-trained in the manner of object recognition, they fail to comprehend the relationship between digital carriers and their reading. To this end, referring to human behavior, we propose a novel DigitalLLaVA method to explicitly inject digital cognitive abilities into MLLMs in a two-step manner. In the first step, to improve the MLLM’s understanding of physical digit carriers, we propose a digit carrier mapping method. This step utilizes object-level text-image pairs to enhance the model’s comprehension of objects containing physical digits. For the second step, unlike previous methods that rely on sequential digital prediction or digit regression, we propose a 32 bit floating point simulation approach that treats digit prediction as a whole. Using digit-level text-image pairs, we train three float heads to predict 32-bit floating-point numbers using 0/1 binary classification. This step significantly reduces the search space, making the prediction process more robust and straightforward. Being simple but effective, our method can identify very precise metrics (i.e., accurate to ±0.001) and provide floating-point results, showing its applicability in digital carrier domains. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Patent intellectual property in social informatics with entrepreneurship support creates greater opportunities to improve human life. It has the potential to open enormous innovation opportunities in various fields, such as technology, health, services, and society. This research was conducted to review the patent landscape and the main trends of patents on social informatics in all countries. Researchers applied a patent landscape analysis using data on 487 patent documents over 16 years from the *** database. The study results show yearly patented development patterns related to social informatics. There is a royalty-free opportunity by using 15 patent discontinued. Patent related to social informatics was dominated by company ownership and inventors from the United States. The patent physics (G) section overwhelmed patents related to social informatics. There were 334 simple family patents on social informatics in nine jurisdictions;the United States was the highest. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Detection of unknown but concerned objects such as diverse unknown suspicious objects in the sea area is a critical problem in military defense applications, but the problem is challenging because 1) a pre-trained detector cannot easily detect unknown but concerned objects, 2) it detects too many unconcerned objects such as usual objects in the coastal land area, and 3) we cannot easily establish a well-performing discriminator to divide the detected objects into unknown and known objects, as well as concerned and unconcerned objects because the unknown objects are not available, whereas the concerned and unconcerned objects are not clearly defined. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a real-time framework for unknown but concerned object detection in maritime environments by integrating object detection, segmentation, and out-of-distribution (OOD) detection techniques. In our framework, an object detector finds all object-like foregrounds by setting a low threshold and a segmentation deep-learning network filters out unconcerned foregrounds detected in the coastal land area. After that, to discriminate known or unknown objects among concerned objects detected in the sea area, a discriminator performs unsupervised OOD detection using bisecting K-means clustering. To boost the performance of the proposed framework, we apply a pre-processing scheme and a contrastive separation loss for segmentation. The proposed framework achieves a high detection rate of unknown but concerned objects with minimal detection of unconcerned objects (i.e., minimal false positives), surpassing baseline methods and demonstrating potential for enhanced maritime safety and security. Research has been carried out to monitor vehicle tires before they are used and can reduce damage, including overcoming vehicle fuel waste because air pressure is continuously monitored. This research aims to utilize the MPX5500DP sensor as an air pressure device, the LM35 sensor as a temperature reader, and a buzzer based on IoT to build a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The MPX5500DP and LM35 sensor inputs to the Arduino Uno microcontroller are distributed by the NodeMCU, fitted with a Wi-Fi module. The Blynk application sends and displays the data on a smartphone using the IoT-based. Based on this research, data on the percentage of errors in monitoring air pressure and tire temperature on vehicles were obtained by comparing the data to the pressure gauge and thermometer: 1-the results of the average reading of the sensor error value. MPX5500DP air pressure against pressure gauge is 5.3%. 2-the average reading of the LM35 sensor error value on the temperature thermometer is 6.8%. With this research, the air pressure and temperature in the tires can be monitored in real-Time via a smartphone using the IoT-based. © 2022 IEEE.

IoT technologies can facilitate machine-to-machine as well as human-to-machine interactions. Use of an automotive human-machine interface can help in exchanging information between vehicles and passengers or drivers. Organizations in automobile sector are using these technologies for providing their customers with seamless customer-experience, which has helped not only in enhancing profitability of the organization;however also in enhancing customer base. An advanced speech-recognition technology is used in the cars for automation of different functions that ensures extraordinary experience for a driver. This requires adoption of an advanced industrial user-interface that connects the human with the machine actively. Present study has analyzed the ways IoT has played a significant role in making human-to-machine interaction possible in automobile industry. In literature-review, different concepts and theories support the impact of IoT in improving human-machine interactions in automobile industry. This chapter has further analyzed the challenges related to the use of this technology. In methodology section of current study, the ways data has been collected in the study has been analyzed. In findings-section, objectives and variables of the study have been considered for designing relevant themes for providing proper insight into the effectiveness of IoT technologies in improving human -machine interactions in automobile industry. The findings section reveals that IoT usage in this industry can enhance customer-experience by improving human-machine interactions especially when using IoT-enabled cars. It has provided proper suggestions regarding the best ways of utilizing IoT in this sector while ensuring reduction of possible risks. © 2022 IEEE.

The World is developing at a tremendous pace which has been catapulted by large-scale technological advancements. Building mega structures has never been easier and modes of commute have also developed thereby shortening travel-time. Such advancements have also brought along newer sources of pollution which are harming our planet at an even faster pace. Sound pollution is one such agent that has a long-term effect on not only humans but the entire biodiversity. Its effect on life is not immediately observed but the damage becomes visible over time. Birds are one of the most affected creatures due to sound pollution. This is one of the major reasons for declining bird population in the Urban areas. It is very important to preserve biodiversity for a sustainable future. Animals have calls that are melodious and rhythmic and these calls tend to change when they are in distress. An automated system can be very useful in this context which can monitor animal sounds and detect changes in their calls. Deployment of such a system in Urban areas is challenging due to the presence of ambient sounds which is extremely diverse. Thus it is essential to initially detect animal calls in the Urban environment prior to monitoring them. ChiBa is a system proposed to address this problem. Experiments were initially performed with the detection of birds and dogs (the most common and loudest creatures in cities) calls in the Urban environment. Tests were performed with over 7K clips comprising of the animal calls as well as Urban ambient sounds. The audios were modeled using a deep learning-based approach wherein the highest accuracy of 99.91% was obtained. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
