The prolonged waiting time at supermarket checkout lines poses a significant challenge to the shopping experience, impacting customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. This paper presents a prototype that addresses this issue by utilizing computer vision and deep learning. The model, incorporating convolutional neural networks such as YOLO v4 tiny and YOLO v5 small, along with tools like OpenCV and Roboflow for dataset management, achieves a remarkable 98% mean average precision for two-class detection. It efficiently detects, classifies, tracks, and counts items on a mobile supermarket conveyor belt. Additionally, we introduce a versatile framework designed for seamless integration into real-world applications. It comprises a customizable monitoring application and simulator that facilitates synthetic image data generation. Managing diverse items in a supermarket presents a major challenge for data gathering, labeling, and training. In that sense, the importance of customizable monitoring and simulation tools is highlighted, emphasizing their practical role. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of maintaining a minimal 0% to 2.85% precision tradeoff while using half of the data as synthetic for two-class detection, indicating potential practicality in supermarkets with proper scaling. In summary, this study brings tangible benefits to both customers and retailers, offering a potential to streamline, speed up, and cut costs in the supermarket checkout process. © 2024 IEEE.

We explored the current state of Python serialization in the context of distributed computing. The challenging points addressed are: object-type support, speed and size, version compatibility, and implementations. There are three well-known serialization modules in our analysis. They are: standard python pickle, cloudpickle, and dill. We found that while the current serialization modules work well, there are certain fundamental issues on __reduce__ method that can be addressed. There is also a room for improvement that can have significant impacts for the community. © 2022 IEEE.

The HTTP/2 Web server is widely used in Internet service. Furthermore, attacks known as distributed denial-of service, or DDoS, were popping up online. HTTP/2 not only allows multiple requests per connection but also protects against DDoS attacks. This paper focused on network link aggregation for bonding multiple Gigabit Ethernets of an HTTP/2 physical machine. Also, we used four link-aggregation modes with no special network switch support, including Round-Robin (Mode 0), Load Balance (balance-xor) (Mode 2), Balance-TLB (Mode 5), and Balance-ALB (Mode 6). We evaluate h2load performance under 3 Gigabit/s DDoS attacks. The results show that Round-Robin (Mode 0) can be served over HTTP/2 as a normal service during a DDoS attack. In addition, Balance-ALB (Mode 6) can be serviced like Mode 0, but this mode has lower performance compared to normal service. However, Mode 2 and Mode 5 can't be served while DDoS attack sizes exceed 20 KB. This paper can conclude that only round-robin mode can protect against DDoS attacks. Although HTTP/2 can protect against DDoS attacks, it can also work after link aggregation © 2024 IEEE.

The use of technology and information devices contributes to global warming. This issue has also become a concern for UN institutions, as stated in international environmental agreements, which aim to stabilize greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere at a level that prevents anthropogenic and dangerous disturbances to the environmental system. This research uses a line of code derived from the tanjak dataset, a student project from 2003 to 2020, numbering 500. This research aims to apply energy consumption efficiency to reduce CO2 emissions produced using computer devices, especially in developing software. The approach used in this research is clean code, which can provide benefits in the form of a line of code that is easy to read, understand, test, and maintain so that it can create savings in energy use. In the test, the line of code used was 1,072,089, producing an energy of 82,152.18 Joules, minus the line of code comments, which was 76,750, producing an energy of 2,971.25 Joules. Initial research results show that the clean code approach can be used to save energy usage, with the result of the line of code used being 995,339 and producing 79,180 Joules of energy, so it can affect reducing CO2 emissions when implementing software development. © 2024 IEEE.

Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are commonly used in data-driven approaches to estimate the Remaining Useful Lifetime (RUL) of power electronic devices. RNNs are preferred because their intrinsic feedback mechanisms are better suited to model time-series data. However, the impact of RNN complexity on estimation accuracy is rarely discussed in the literature. This issue is important because choosing a lower-complexity model that delivers the same or similar performance as a higher-complexity model can increase implementation efficiency. In the paper, we use three RNN models, namely, the vanilla version, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) to conduct RUL estimation for power electronic devices. We use two accelerated aging datasets, one dataset targeting the package failure of MOSFETs, and the other dataset targeting package failure of power diodes. Our study shows that a lower-complexity RNN does not necessarily deliver a lower performance. Similarly, a higher-complexity model does not assure a higher performance. As such, our work highlights the importance of selecting a proper neural network for RUL estimation not biased towards complex models. This is especially useful and important for implementing such RUL estimation techniques in embedded resource-constrained and speed-limited computins platforms. © 2024 IEEE.

To accommodate the wide range of input voltages supplied by redundant batteries and ensure an adequate hold-up time for communication systems during utility power failures, power supplies used in 5 G base stations typically include a front-end boost converter as the first stage and a second-stage isolated converter. In this paper, a new topology for a regenerative snubber in boost converters is proposed. Compared to traditional active or passive snubber topologies, the proposed snubber offers the advantages of having fewer components and occupying less space. Moreover, it does not require additional active devices and can be driven by widely-used commercial PWM control integrated circuits, achieving a higher level of cost-effectiveness and offering increased industrial applications. The final prototype of a power supply for a networking switch hub (as used in 5 G base stations) is fabricated to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. © 2024 The Authors

Video embedding is the pivot in Temporal Action Detection (TAD). Once the video embedding can robustly capture the essence of actions and perceive activities in complex scenes, the TAD model can more accurately localize action boundaries. Currently, video embedding is typically based on rule-based pixel convolution or cube-based transformer, wherein structured semantic information is intertwined, leading to the submergence of crucial spatial semantic information, such as the intrinsic motion of key semantic objects and interactions among semantic objects. To address these limitations, it is imperative to explore alternative approaches. With the remarkable performance of general semantic segmentation models in visual representation, we introduce the general segmentation model SEEM into the video embedding paradigm, constructing a semantically structured representation from perceptual semantics to cognitive semantics. To more effectively utilize SEEM for structured video representation, we designed the Semantic Adapter (Sem-Adapter) as a bridge to connect the two models. Firstly, we design a Self-Motion Module (SMM) to pay attention to the self-motion of key semantic regions. Secondly, we propose a Mutual Relation Module (MRM) to construct the interactions between semantic regions. Extensive experiments on ActivityNet-1.3, THUMOS-14 and EPIC-Kitchens-100 reveal that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods under the same input modality, and our method improves the average mAP from 60.6% to 64.2% on THUMOS-14 with the same backbone. Solar energy is one of the most abundant sources of renewable energy in Indonesia. Solar energy is now typically harnessed using solar panels, but the low efficiency of photovoltaic cells requires the development of other alternatives. The heliostat is a sunlight directing device with mirrors that can be used in a concentrated solar power system. Current heliostats require high capital investment due to their large frames and expensive components. This research was undertaken to develop a lower cost heliostat using a smaller frame, ESP32 microcontroller, servo motor and low-cost components. The position of the sun can be determined using an algorithm based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) solar calculator, and the mirror is moved to maintain the sun's reflection on a target. The result of this research is a set of heliostat prototypes consisting of the frame and control system. Tests were carried out to test the performance of the designed heliostat and it was found that the heliostat has an accuracy of about 60 cm and can raise temperatures up to 3.41°C. The conclusion is that the heliostat can be used in a concentrated solar power system to heat boilers in solar power towers. © 2023 IEEE.

Image classification has been instrumental in the interpretation and labeling of images in the field of remote sensing, computer vision, and in robotics applications. Machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, particularly artificial neural networks, are extensively utilized for this purpose. In this work we propose the Expanded Latent Space Autoencoder (ELSA) with a case use application to classify land cover data. The main idea on the ELSA network structure is to utilize the latent spaces of multiple internal autoencoders in order to create an expanded latent space. This expanded latent space extracts more information from the input data, and serves as input features for a more simpler classifier network. In order to evaluate the proposed network’s ability to extract features and classify complex and multispectral images we employed it to the EuroSAT dataset. The results demonstrate a remarkable capacity for feature extraction using the ELSA network, with lower complexity, trained with a reduced number of images. The classifier network achieved a final accuracy of 98.7%, matching or exceeding the performance of more complex state-of-the-art models. ©2024 IEEE.

In the past few years, fog computing (FC) has emerged as a promising complement to cloud computing. It offers reduced latency, minimal bandwidth consumption, and real-time data transfer. In healthcare, particularly in IoT-enabled systems, FC integration has become pivotal for real-time monitoring and immediate data transfer to health experts. The researchers all around the world proposed and developed various communication frameworks and come up with certain outputs in terms of quality-of-service parameters (QoS). However, these QoS parameters are not always appropriate for effective execution of the application. Following that, this study explores the integration of FC with multi-objective Optimization Algorithms (such as FFLY and GWO) to optimize crucial quality of service (QoS) metrics using a proposed linear function to optimize multi objectives, essential for sustained communication. The research focuses on optimizing multi objectives in healthcare monitoring systems. Experimental results reveal the superiority of the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) over the Firefly Algorithm (FFLY). This study emphasizes the crucial significance of multi-objective optimisation algorithms in optimizing critical parameters for successful healthcare communication frameworks, which can lead to improvements in healthcare monitoring efficiency. © 2024 Bharati Vidyapeeth, New Delhi.
