The very high strength of Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is possible to produce due to the availability of a pozzolanic material in the mixture and application of the packing density method to obtain the optimum density of the mixture proportions. Rice husk ash is a natural source of high silica (SiO2) with readiness in huge volumes. In this study, the RPC mixtures were produced from a fixed content of 25% silica fume of the cement weight combined with synthesized rice husk ash (SRHA) of 10%, 20%, and 30% by cement weight. Mix proportions were obtained by using the Modified Andreassen Packing Model method. This study aims to determine the width of slump flow and compressive strength under normal and steam curing of RPC with low cement content (650 kg/m3). The results demonstrated that the intermix of silica fume with synthesized rice husk ash up to 30% provides an advance on the slump flow width and compressive strength of RPC containing local quartzite powder under normal and steam curing.

The project aims to build a working prototype for analysis of potential energy of water flow in pipe ½ 'by using micro tangential turbines with a loss running low, constituting a small-scale model for the study power generation thereof, setting parameters related to a hydraulic distribution system operation residential drinking water. Taking advantage of the electric power, a microturbine is obtained by decanting flow through it. The research methodology is descriptive quantitative approach, to develop the project initially performed a literature review, followed by identification of the electrical variables and characteristics of the prototype to generate a simulation of a real hydraulic circuit, it followed this comes the recognition and selection of the elements for retrofitting. Peripheral nerve regeneration (PNR) following trauma requires the reconstruction of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and the proper stimulation of growth factors. Decellularised small intestine submucosa (SIS) has been extensively used as an ECM scaffold for tissue repair, but its potential to enhance the effects of exogenous growth factors on PNR is not well understood. In this study, we evaluated the effects of SIS implantation combined with glial cell-derived growth factor (GDNF) treatment on PNR in a rat neurorrhaphy model. We found that both SIS and regenerating nerve tissue expressed syndecan-3 (SDC3), one of major heparan sulphate proteoglycans in nerve tissue, and that SDC3 interacted with GDNF in the regenerating nerve tissue. Importantly, the SIS-GDNF combined treatment enhanced the recovery of neuromuscular function and β3-tubulin-positive axonal outgrowth, indicating an increase in the number of functioning motor axons connecting to the muscle after neurorrhaphy. Our findings suggest that the SIS membrane offers a new microenvironment for neural tissue and promotes neural regeneration based on SDC3-GDNF signalling, providing a potential therapeutic approach for PNR. © 2023 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Background: In an op-ed posted on the New York Times (NYT) website, Angelina Jolie disclosed that she carries the BRCA1 genetic mutation and received a preventive mastectomy. Studies have since demonstrated a positive impact of Ms. Jolie's disclosure on breast cancer-related health behaviors. This qualitative study used conventional content analysis of comments to the op-ed to explore intermediate outcomes of the disclosure;specifically, how the disclosure influenced public discourse regarding appearance changes related to breast cancer surgery. Method: After downloading all comments from the NYT website and using an iterative process to develop a standardized codebook, two researchers applied the codes using NVivo 10. Result: Five subthemes were identified in sixty-one comments discussing physical appearance or body image in the context of breast cancer treatment or preventive care: appearance versus health, perception of breast appearance following surgery, partner acceptance of appearance following surgery, beliefs about others’ reactions regarding appearance, and beliefs about reconstructive surgery. While some commenters shared body image concerns following surgery, many were relieved to have undergone the procedure, valuing health over appearance. Most women stated that their romantic partners praised their appearance following surgery, although some worried about how they were perceived in public. Conclusion: This study clarifies how celebrity disclosures about cancer may influence intermediate outcomes (e.g. interpersonal communication and beliefs about appearance-related surgical outcomes) hypothesized to contribute to changes in cancer prevention and treatment behaviors. More research is needed to further elucidate the relationships between celebrity disclosure, intermediate outcomes, and behavioral outcomes. © 2020, © 2020 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

According to research, the current situation of declining of children's birth rate is becoming a serious social issue in Taiwan. Therefore, most parents are willing to give their children the best care, and the trend of children's goods is refined and more creative. It can be seen that modern people are not afraid of expensive but pay more attention to quality and creativity. This study takes the common traffic signs as design target. Modern children's living environment is becoming more scientific and less exposed to outdoor activities. The preschool children's vision is not broad enough to judge the meaning of the traffic sign. Therefore, in the news reports, people often see cases of children misunderstanding the road, leading to tragedy. Parents play an important role in the child's growth and must teach children to identify relevant signs at the right *** study hopes to teach children the correct concept of transportation through relevant designs. Although the elements of traffic signs are very simple, the more complex the environment, the more streamlined it is to achieve simplicity and order. The ultimate goal of this study is to make children curious about the goods and teach the correct concept of transportation.

Economic growth arises fast in Taiwan because of the rapid development of industry, and many problems of environmental pollutions occur consequently. Wastewater and polluted water are the major pollutants occurred in the environment. As the result, plenty of researches related to wastewater reduction and treatment are developed to resolve the problem of wastewater production. The problem of wastewater production has been reduced after wastewater treatment tests have been used. However, the production of sludge increases accompanying with the volume of wastewater treatment, which causes numerous costs generated for dealing with sludge treatment. In general, successful technics involved in industrial sludge reduction are divided into five methods, including physical, chemical, biological, sludge hydrolysis, and a combination of the above methods. This study developed a method for sludge reduction by using ultrasonic technic with low consumed energy, combined with biotreatment (active sludge process) to conduct tests of organic sludge reduction in one industrial area of Taiwan. There is no use of chemicals on tests of organic sludge reduction, which resulted in no second pollutants generated by the application of ultrasonic technic, and organic sludges can be reduced. The results of the pilot and laboratory tests showed above 40% of sludge reduction, and this method was available to apply on the real filed operation.

Reconstruction of the 2004 Tsunami Inundation Map in Banda Aceh Through Numerical Model and Its Validation with Post-Tsunami Survey Data

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recorded the 2004 tsunami heights in the Indian Ocean using the DART buoy tool and survey field data in the land side of Banda Aceh. Furthermore, 85 tsunami poles around Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar were used to mark the tsunami flow depth. The flow depth of the tsunami data recorded plays an important role in fostering our understanding of the physical tsunami wave generation and inundation using tsunami modeling. This study is aimed at comparing the results of the tsunami flow depth modeling in Banda Aceh with some measurement data from NOAA and Tsunami Poles. The tsunami modeling process was applied using the Cornell Multi-Grid Coupled Tsunami Model (COMCOT) computational *** used 6 nested grids and the innermost layer covering the Banda Aceh region. The Layer 6 used for the variable Manning roughness coefficient represents the surface land use before the tsunami. We put 139 and 67 observation points on land to observe tsunami flow depth data according to NOAA and Tsunami pole coordinates, respectively. The result shows that NOAA data gave poor agreement with numerical simulations. A better result was obtained when using tsunami poles. We recommend increasing the use of the tsunami poles data as they were produced with a rigorous validation process for the 2004 tsunami.

In this research, the transient characteristics of a new type fuel metering system for aircraft turbofan engines using two types of pumps, a gear pump and a centrifugal pump, were studied by modelling and simulation. This new fuel metering system is capable of hydraulically unloading the operating state of each pump by the pump mode switching mechanism within the permissible range of the pump rotation speed and the fuel flow rate and it is possible to reduce the fuel temperature rise due to the pressure loss in the circuit in the operation region of the entire fuel system. In addition to this, by using a small centrifugal pump that can realize high discharge flow rate, it is possible to reduce weight compared to the conventional fuel system. However, when the pump mode is switched, unexpected fluctuation in the fuel flow rate can occur when a large change in the inlet pressure of the system occurs, the pressure control unit cannot follow the change, and the transient phenomenon cannot be suppressed. At this time, the pressure waveform generated at the time of changing the pump mode includes a high frequency component such that the pressure control unit, which plays a role of keeping the metering valve differential pressure constant, cannot follow up. Therefore, in this paper, we focused on the frequency of the pressure change waveform when the pump mode was changed and studied the model of the fuel system inlet pressure in the gear pump mode. Based on that model, we propose a method to reduce the frequency characteristics of the pressure change occurring at the time of pump mode change.

He became a Research Associate in 1977 and has been a full-time Lecturer since 1993 at Hosei University. He teaches Electromagnetism. He is engaged in research on the computational electromagnetics and modelling of magnetization characteristics. He is a member of the IEEE the Japan Society of Applied Magnetism the Japan Society of Biological Magnetism and the Japan AEM Society. Received his Ph.D. in 1975 in Electrical Engineering from Hosei University where he became a Research Associate the same year a Lecturer in 1976 an Associate Professor in 1978 and has been a Professor since 1987. He is responsible for courses in Electromagnetism Electrical Apparatus as well as Applied Mathematics Electromagnetics and Magnetic Engineering in the Graduate School. He is engaged in research in computational electromagnetics. In order to realize light and small power supplies, this paper proposes a film-shape transformer called film transformer. The basic operating principle of this transformer is the skin effect similar to those of the coreless transformer previously exploited by the authors. Both the primary and secondary coils composed of thin-film conductors are arranged coaxially on the one-layer film base, and the film transformer is constructed by the lamination of these films. In this paper, experimental as well as numerical studies are carried out about basic characteristics of the film transformer in order to examine possibilities in practical use. As a result, it is shown that the film transformer may be applicable to high-frequency switching power supplies.

The water content is the amount of water contained in the medium – in this case, soil. The water contained in the soil represents soil condition, from the surface down to the ground. The surface position of the land to the groundwater table is referred to as the vadose zone, while the region below the groundwater level is called the saturated soil zone. The capillary fringe is a transitional zone between the vadose zone and the saturated soil zone. The unsaturated zone is defined as the part of the vadose zone between the ground surface and the capillary fringe. Distribution of water content in the soil is closely related to infiltration and consolidation processes. Infiltration is the process of water flow from the surface into the ground, while consolidation is the process of water dissipation from the soil pore medium due to the loading that causing a decline in volume or the soil pore cavity. Infiltration and consolidation are closely related to the compositional changes in water and air content of the soil. Groundwater scientific developments, in terms of engineering, science and technology, have been impactful. This research involves the investigation of a correlation between the distribution of water content and unsaturated consolidation and is expected to offer new insights in groundwater science.
