Propagation properties of Love wave-type surface-acoustic wave on alpha-quartz

(Member) completed the doctoral program of the Department of Electronic Engineering Hokkaido University in 1977 and remained as a research student. In 1978 he joined Hitachi Ltd. Presently he is a Senior Researcher at Hitachi Central Research Laboratory. He holds a Doctor of Engineering degree. He has been engaged in research on the electromagnetic field analysis boundary value problem of the surface acoustic wave interaction of the acoustic wave and optics high-performance SAW filter high-frequency circuit for satellite communication and mobile communication. In 1981 he received an Academic Promotion Award from I.E.I.C.E. In 1990 he received an IEEE MTT Microwave Prize Award. In 1991 he received a Kanto District Invention Award (from the Invention Society) and in 1993 a Commendation for Research Accomplishment from the Director of Science and Technology Agency. He is a senior member of IEEE. (Member) graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Matsuyama Technical High School in 1984 and joined Hitachi Central Research Laboratory. In 1988 he graduated from the Department of Electronic Engineering Hitachi Keihin Technical School. Since then he has been engaged in research and development of the process technology of magnetic bubble memory and surface acoustic wave devices. Presently he is with the Communication Systems Department.

As a piezoelectric substrate for surface acoustic wave devices, the LST cut quartz has good temperature characteristics and low propagation loss. However, as the thickness of the metal electrodes on the substrate surface is increased, propagation loss also increases. Further, the electromechanical coupling coefficient is small. In this paper, a cut angle of the quartz substrate is sought that has excellent temperature stability, low propagation loss, and a large electromechanical coupling coefficient in the present of metal electrode films. For the rotated Y-cut substrate in the neighborhood of the LST cut, the propagating surface acoustic wave (SAW) merle changes from the leaky surface wave to the Love wave-type surface acoustic wave for which. no propagation loss occurs in theory while the electromechanical coupling coefficient increased to 0.5 percent at the maximum if gold is used for the electrodes and the propagation direction of the SAW is shifted from the X axis. This is shown by simulation. By experiment, it is shown that the second-order temperature coefficient is on the same order as that of the ST-cut quartz substrate.

Complete degradation of lignocellulosic biomass to be useful products need complex enzyme. Cloning, expression and characterization of local recombinant β-xylosidase and cellulase have successfully produced in its heterologous host of Escherichia coli BL21. In this research, we cultured both of recombinant E. coli BL21 as enzyme cocktail in one flask at the same medium. Modified chemically defined medium (mCDM) was used as growth media, containing of natural extracts, minerals and salts. Modification also done by variation of mCDM with glucose, mCDM with glucose and IPTG, mCDM without glucose, mCDM without glucose but induced by IPTG. Determination of β-xylosidase and cellulase cocktails activities were done by commercial natural substrates of birchwood and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and chromogenic substrates of p-nitrophenyl-β-xylopyranoside (pNP-X) and p-nitrophenyl-β-D-cellobioside (pNP-C). The result showed that enzyme cocktail of β-xylosidase and cellulase could produced by recombinant E. coli BL21 synergically. The highest activities on natural substrate of β-xylosidase was 0.834±0.018 U/mL and cellulase was 0.557±0.089 U/mL, produced in mCDM with glucose and IPTG. Further analysis showed β-xylosidase activity was 26.983±0.591 U/mL for pNP-X and cellulase was 33.777±1.083 U/mL for pNP-C. This result revealed the production of enzyme cocktail showed better results than compared to single enzyme. The synergism of β-xylosidase and cellulase as enzyme cocktails, provide effectiveness in the hydrolysis of biomass to be used as raw material for making environmentally friendly bioenergy.

Nickel oxide (NiO)-based supercapacitor electrodes have attracted great attention due to the ultra-high theoretical specific capacitance. NiO, as a typical pseudocapacitive, is considered to be the most promising candidate as an electrode material for supercapacitors. Herein, the NiO nanostructures directly grown on the Ni foam have been successfully designed and synthesized via the hydrothermal method. The optimal Ni foam/NiO electrode exhibits a high specific capacity of 93.2 C/g at a current density of 5 mV/s. The enhanced electrochemical performance of Ni foam/NiO electrodes is due to the unique morphological architecture which facilitates open access and promotes electrolyte ion/electron transport.

Biomass is an organic substance widely available in nature as a fresh or a waste material considered renewable energy that aligns with the zero-carbon scheme to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels. However, after conversion, biomass's physical or chemical properties highly affect biofuel characteristics. A variety of instruments can be used to figure out biofuel reactivity. Considering commonly adopted instruments, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is a simple, fast, and efficient way to determine biofuel properties and reactivity. The TGA method has the capability to analyze the biofuel properties (proximate analysis: moisture, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and ash) and combustion features of biomass (such as ignition, reactivity, etc). Most importantly, the TG curvatures (TGA and DTG) reveal the behavior of the biofuel during the thermodegradation process. As a consequence, the quality and quantity analyses on the biofuel properties and reactivity can be investigated comprehensively. Moreover, some TGA integration with artificial intelligence (AI) has been studied to better understand biofuel management and technology for future development. The outcome for the TGA-AI integration may obtain an excellent result with the fit quality value R 2 >95 %. This study aims to comprehensively review relevant research using TGA to analyze the lignocellulosic biofuel properties and reactivity. Moreover, the discussion in this study is extended to perspective, challenges, and future work.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a life-threatening condition with limited treatment options. The pathogenesis of ALI involves macrophage-mediated disruption and subsequent repair of the alveolar barriers, which ultimately results in lung damage and regeneration, highlighting the pivotal role of macrophage polarization in ALI. Although exosomes derived from mesenchymal stromal cells have been established as influential modulators of macrophage polarization, the specific role of exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) remains underexplored. This study aimed to elucidate the role of specific exosomal miRNAs in driving macrophage polarization, thereby providing a reference for developing novel therapeutic interventions for ALI. We found that miR-7704 is the most abundant and efficacious miRNA for promoting the switch to the M2 phenotype in macrophages. Mechanistically, we determined that miR-7704 stimulates M2 polarization by inhibiting the MyD88/STAT1 signaling pathway. Notably, intra-tracheal delivery of miR-7704 alone in a lipopolysaccharide-induced murine ALI model significantly drove M2 polarization in lung macrophages and remarkably restored pulmonary function, thus increasing survival. Our findings highlight miR-7704 as a valuable tool for treating ALI by driving the beneficial M2 polarization of macrophages. Our findings pave the way for deeper exploration into the therapeutic potential of exosomal miRNAs in inflammatory lung diseases. © 2023 The Author(s)

Most of the arsenic (As) removal methods remove the major part of the other ions in water, especially anions which are important for general water quality measures. However, the efficiency of selective removal is decided on the basis of competitive ions and their concentrations, removal capacity and required water quality parameters. To reduce the waste and energy use for water treatment , selective As removal and easy separation of adsorbent materials and produced water is a basic need. Although As removal is efficient, if the material cannot be easily separated, additional energy and high-tech instruments are required, which increase the energy use and cost of the operation. Another major characteristic of a sustainable selective As removal method is regeneration and re-use capability. The number of cycles that can effectively remove As determine the capacity of re-use. With increased re-use capacity, waste generation can be significantly reduced as well as the energy use.

The purpose of this study was to compare the presence of Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli in chicken meat, intestinal contents and rinse water at slaughtering place from traditional markets in Surabaya, Indonesia. A total of 120 samples (chicken meat, intestinal contents and rinse water, each of the 40 samples) were collected from the slaughtering place from traditional markets in Surabaya. The samples were analyzed the presence of Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli in chicken meat, intestinal contents and rinse water. Isolation and identification Salmonella *** Escherichia coli were carried out according to the conventional culture-based method (ISO 6579:2002). This study showed Salmonella spp. was isolated by 85.00%, 57.50%, 52.50% of chicken meat, intestinal contents and rinse water, respectively. While *** was isolated by 77.50%, 65.00%, 75.00 % of chicken meat, intestinal contents and rinse water, respectively. Prevalence of Salmonella spp. and E. coli in chicken meat is higher than intestinal contents and rinse water. Thus, it is indicated that the contamination of Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli in chicken meat not only comes from intestinal contents and rinse water.

The flood that occurred in Tangerang City still remains an issue that has not been resolved. The flood arose from Bogor through the Cisadane River. Cipabuaran Channel is one of the channels in the Sabi River watershed who often overflows. Sabi River itself is a tributary of the Cisadane River. In this study, the flood control simulation in Cipabuaran Channel was carried out using a 1D-2D numerical model. Simulation is carried out with 4 scenarios based on the design flow of the 10 year return period. For scenario 1, flood control is carried out using retention pond in the downstream of Cipabuaran Channel, scenario 2 is carried out by using two retention ponds in the upstream and downstream of Cipabuaran Channel, scenario 3 using retention ponds in the downstream of Cipabuaran Channel and bypass channel to Cisadane river, and scenario 4 performed by using retention pond in the downstream of Cipabuaran Channel and normalization on the Channel. Simulation results show the effectiveness of flood reduction for each scenario, in scenario 1 flood can be reduced by 9%, scenario 2 flood can be reduced by 32.52%, scenario 3 flood can be reduced by 77.34% and for scenario 4 flood can be reduced by 95%. From these results, it can be concluded that scenario 4 where flood control is carried out using a retention pond in the downstream of Cipabuaran Channel and normalizing the River can reduce flooding significantly.

Mounting evidence suggests that weight management and physical activity (PA) improve overall health and well being, and reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality among cancer survivors. Although many opportunities exist to include weight management and PA in routine cancer care, several barriers remain. This review summarizes key topics addressed in a recent National Academies of Science, engineering, and Medicine workshop entitled, "Incorporating Weight Management and Physical Activity Throughout the Cancer Care Continuum." Discussions related to body weight and PA among cancer survivors included: 1) current knowledge and gaps related to health outcomes; 2) effective intervention approaches; 3) addressing the needs of diverse populations of cancer survivors; 4) opportunities and challenges of workforce, care coordination, and technologies for program implementation; 5) models of care; and 6) program coverage. While more discoveries are still needed for the provision of optimal weight-management and PA programs for cancer survivors, obesity and inactivity currently jeopardize their overall health and quality of life. Actionable future directions are presented for research; practice and policy changes required to assure the availability of effective, affordable, and feasible weight management; and PA services for all cancer survivors as a part of their routine cancer care. After serving as the head of Iijima Special Research Laboratories he became Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1986. He because Professor Emeritus of that institute in 1986. He became Professor at Tokyo Engineering University and Professor Emeritus there in 1991. In 1991 he became Professor at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and was appointed Vice President of the institute in 1992. He served successively as editor examiner secretary of general affairs inspector counsel committee-head of pattern recognition and specialized studies head of Tokyo chapter and vice president of this institute. In 1991 he became Honorary Member. He received the Paper Award from the Institute four times and the Literary Works Award once. He received the Achievement Award and the Distinguished Service Award in 1976 and 1989 respectively. He received the Purple Ribbon Medal from the Emperor in 1989.

Theoretical studies on Iijima's ''Theory of Pattern Recognition,'' which is known as a method of multiple similarity, have shown clearly that there are situations when it is difficult to determine the viewpoint and visual field, important parameters to introduce topological aspects into the pattern space, observing a figure itself. To cope with this problem, this paper proposes transforming the observed image from a figure f(r) to a second-order differential image rho(r), called ''figure source.'' The aim is to reconstruct the theory in such a way as to enable the application of similarity evaluation methods as in the conventional case, without compromising the current theory, and all the necessary proofs are given. In this paper, the figure source equation as well as rules representing its properties are developed, and several related physical quantities are redefined.
