He joined the Electro-Technical Laboratories in 1948 and since then has been involved in research on electromagnetic theory and pattern recognition theory image processing voice recognition and research and development of OCR. After serving as the head of Iijima Special Research Laboratories he became Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1986. He because Professor Emeritus of that institute in 1986. He became Professor at Tokyo Engineering University and Professor Emeritus there in 1991. In 1991 he became Professor at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and was appointed Vice President of the institute in 1992. He served successively as editor examiner secretary of general affairs inspector counsel committee-head of pattern recognition and specialized studies head of Tokyo chapter and vice president of this institute. In 1991 he became Honorary Member. He received the Paper Award from the Institute four times and the Literary Works Award once. He received the Achievement Award and the Distinguished Service Award in 1976 and 1989 respectively. He received the Purple Ribbon Medal from the Emperor in 1989.

Theoretical studies on Iijima's ''Theory of Pattern Recognition,'' which is known as a method of multiple similarity, have shown clearly that there are situations when it is difficult to determine the viewpoint and visual field, important parameters to introduce topological aspects into the pattern space, observing a figure itself. To cope with this problem, this paper proposes transforming the observed image from a figure f(r) to a second-order differential image rho(r), called ''figure source.'' The aim is to reconstruct the theory in such a way as to enable the application of similarity evaluation methods as in the conventional case, without compromising the current theory, and all the necessary proofs are given. In this paper, the figure source equation as well as rules representing its properties are developed, and several related physical quantities are redefined.

To develop a semi-supervised learning model, it is necessary to have a little labeled data and a lot of unlabeled data. The data labeling process requires great effort and must involve experts. In the process of labeling text data requires a linguist to do the labeling. In this study using text data in the form of marketplace user reviews, in general the data is still dirty and data preprocessing needs to be done. The data preprocessing techniques applied are normalization, tokenization, stopword removal, and stemming. After the data goes through the preprocessing stage, labeling is carried out by involving more than one linguist. The results of the labeling that have been carried out by linguists will be carried out a consistency test process by applying the Cohen Kappa method. The data that has been labeled by 2 linguists is 820 data, after the consistency test is obtained the delivery aspect with a kappa value of 1, the service aspect with a kappa value of 0.960, the quality aspect with a kappa value of 0.981, the size aspect with a kappa 0.997, the color aspect with a kappa value of 1. Based on the results of the consistency test from the 2 experts for the 5 aspects, consistent results were obtained. So that the data that has been labeled can be used as training data to carry out the process of developing a semi-supervised learning model. A series of labeling processes up to consistency testing will be the main basis for developing a semi-supervised learning model.

Objectives: The 12-item Self-Compassion Scale–Short Form (SCS–SF) is a widely used instrument for the assessment of self-compassion. To date, there have been few examinations of this instrument’s psychometric properties, particularly across nations and languages. Therefore, we used data from the Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS) to assess measurement invariance of the SCS–SF across nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Methods: Participants (N = 56,968) from 65 nations completed the SCS–SF in 40 languages. Using these data, we tested various hypothesised models of the SCS–SF in the total sample and, using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, tested for invariance of the optimal model across national groups, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Results: In the total dataset, we found that an 11-item, 2-factor model (i.e., SCS-11) provided best fit to the data, with the two factors tapping distinct constructs of compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding. The SCS-11 was found to be partially scalar invariant across national groups and languages, and fully scalar invariant across gender identities and age groups. There was wide variation in latent means for the two factors, particularly across national groups and languages. Further analyses showed negligible associations between the two factors and sociodemographic variables, including marital status, financial security, and urbanicity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that it may be possible to derive a stable 2-factor model of the SCS–SF for use in cross-cultural research, but also highlight the likelihood of cross-national and cross-linguistic variations in the way that self-compassion is understood. © The Author(s) 2025.

Climate change affects all areas, including those with low temperature. Wonosobo belongs to highland areas with low temperature. The thermal performance of buildings is influenced by micro-environment climate so that the climate change will affect the thermal performance of buildings. Vernacular buildings are believed to be able to make the occupants comfortable. The vernacular buildings in tropical highlands have either exposed stone walls or wooden walls. The present research seeks to analyze the thermal performance of building envelopes with wooden walls and exposed stone walls in highland areas. Simulation method using the Ecotect software was applied. There are 12 building models with a variety of roofing and flooring were selected. The results of the simulation indicate that the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures of one model and other models is not significant. Warm temperature mostly occurs in houses with exposed stone walls. Highland areas need much warmth so that cold temperature will not disturb occupants.

The physiological response of motorcyclists significantly related to driving stress can be used as an indicator of traffic safety measurement. The driver’s stress can be measured using heart and respiration rates. In this study, the experiment was conducted along the busiest urban arterial road in the capital city of Aceh province. This research aims to provide empirical results expected to determine the safety threshold for motorcyclists’ stress on arterial roads in Banda Aceh City. The Polar Vantage V2 Smartwatch Multisport is used to measure the heart and respiration rate of volunteer motorcycle users. A total of 25 volunteer motorcycle users contributed to this study, with a total of collected data 750. The Heart Rate Variability (HRV) method and driving stress were discovered to be essential factors in measuring traffic accidents. The variables observed were the Heart Rate (HR) and Respiration Rate (RR) using Polar Vantage V2. Furthermore, the GoPro camera uses to record the geometric conditions of the targeted road segment. The findings from our experiment reveal that the average HR and RR for the volunteer are 96 bpm, and 24 bpm, respectively. These HR and RR values show that motorcyclists in Banda Aceh are considered to have abnormal HR and RR. Consequently, they considered unsafe driving stress.

Bioethanol as an alternative energy resource, has become essential to be developed as an eco-environmentally energy. Enzymatic processes can be used for cellulose biomass to generate bioethanol. Termite is the organism that consumes cellulose as a food source. In this study, cellulolytic Klebsiella variicola isolated from termite gut were optimized to increase the cellulolytic enzyme production. Several factors can affect the growth and production of cellulase enzymes. In this research, optimization of the culture medium was examined using different carbon sources, various concentration of carbon sources, diverse nitrogen sources, various concentration of nitrogen sources, pH, temperature, and agitation. The result showed that medium optimal with higher enzyme activity was obtained in the addition of a carbon source of fructose with concentration of 3.5%; nitrogen source of sodium nitrate with a concentration of 2%; pH of 5; temperature of 45°C; and agitation of 150 rpm.

Introduction: Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are clonal blood disorders with hyperactive JAK/STAT signaling and an increased risk of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Importantly, AML in MPN is almost universally fatal and targetable mechanisms remain elusive. We discovered that High Mobility Group A1 (HMGA1) chromatin regulators are required for MPN progression and leukemic transformation in JAK2 V617F mouse models (Li et al, Blood 2022). Immune escape is a fundamental mechanism of tumor progression in solid tumors, although its role in MPN is unknown. We therefore sought to test the hypotheses that: 1) HMGA1 drives MPN progression by activating gene networks involved in immune evasion, 2) Targeting HMGA1 networks with therapy in advanced MPN will trigger an anti-tumor immune attack. Methods: To dissect mechanisms underlying HMGA1, we performed multiomic sequencing (seq) approaches, including RNAseq, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIPseq), and assays of chromatin accessibility (ATACseq) in JAK2 V617F mutant AML cell lines (DAMI, SET-2, UKE-1). HMGA1 was inactivated via CRISPR or short hairpin RNA (shRNA). To examine three dimensional (3D) genome architecture, we employed chromatin conformation capture (3C). ChIP was used to detect chromatin binding of repressive histones and CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF) complexes. To define pathways relevant to MPN patients, we assessed bulk and single cell (sc) RNAseq of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and CD34 + cells. Artificial intelligence (AI) was used to identify drugs targeting HMGA1. Results: To elucidate transcriptional networks governed by HMGA1 in MPN, we integrated multiomic approaches (RNA/ChIP/ATACseq) in JAK2 V617F mutant AML cells, which revealed that HMGA1 represses gene networks involved in interferon γ signaling and antigen presentation (AP), including genes encoding major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and II proteins. This paper presents a new switching control scheme for static var compensator (SVC) using fuzzy logic control rules to enhance the overall stability of electric power systems. In addition, the coordination with power system stabilizers (PSS) is also considered to achieve a wider stable region. An SVC is set on one of the busbars in the transmission system, where the real power flow signal is utilized at the location of the SVC to determine the firing angle of the thyristor switch. The switching control scheme is simple so as not to require heavy computation on the microcomputer based switching controller. The PSSs are also set on the generators in the study system. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic switching control scheme for the SVC. The coordination between SVC and PSS is also effective to enlarge the stable region.
