Indonesia was declared the world's fourth-largest coffee bean producer in 2020 and yields consistently increase each year. Indonesia also has the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 01-2907-2008, which specifies various defects with the defect scores of coffee beans that determine their quality. Common coffee bean defects listed in SNI 01-2907-2008 include black beans, broken black beans, partly black beans, and brown coffee beans. These defects degrade the quality and affect the market value. Previous studies have proposed computer vision systems as a non-invasive testing method for grading coffee beans based on trained images. However, obtaining the detail in a single bean image based on the region of interest could have been more comprehensively explained in those studies, making them less informative and requiring a more detailed conceptual breakdown. This study describes several coffee beans captured as images using a digital camera with a specific field of view, F/25 f-number, 1/60s exposure time, ISO400, and a lighting system reaching 12,000 lux. These images are processed based on the region of interest and centroid, resulting in single bean images with a resolution of 220 x 220 pixels ready for training. The samples used in this study are Robusta Lampung coffee beans, which are commonly found in Indonesia and exhibit various types of defects based on the criteria in SNI 01-2907-2008, such as black beans, broken black beans, partly black beans, and brown coffee beans. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents an application of evolutionary fuzzy classifier design to a road accident data analysis. A fuzzy classifier evolved by the genetic programming was used to learn the labeling of data in a real world road accident data set. The symbolic classifier was inspected in order to select important features and the relations among them. Selected features provide a feedback for traffic management authorities that can exploit the knowledge to improve road safety and mitigate the severity of traffic accidents. © 2012 IEEE.

There are the following three steps to increase users of cutting-edge measurement instruments produced by university research: (1) providing information on their use at scientific conferences, (2) conducting collaborative research between the developers and users of the instruments, and (3) providing a contract measurement service to researchers wanting to use the instruments as needed. This research study aims to determine the criteria for selecting suitable operating organization handling contract measurement service above when it is located within or outside the university. As model cases, we investigated the following two types of businesses that operate university-owned instruments to provide measurement results: shared-use facilities for industry-academia collaborations operated by universities (university organizations) and university-launched companies (companies) performing outsourced services under an instrument-use agreement with the universities. We interviewed three university organizations and three companies about their challenges and success points in managing their organizations. A comparison of the interviews revealed that 'maintenance of the organization,' 'hiring human resources,' and 'expanding customer base' are the criteria for selecting the two types of businesses. © 2023 PICMET (Portland International Center for Management of engineering and Technology(.

This study examined the effect of Zn2+ ion substitution on ZnxMn(1-x) Fe2O4 nanoparticles (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) towards signal Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). The co-precipitation method synthesised the nanoparticles at a temperature of 90°C. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results showed a polycrystalline structure with a crystallite size varied from 19.05 nm to 19.77 nm. In addition, as the Zn element increased in the ZnxMn(1-x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles, the degree of crystallinity increased by 21.72%, respectively. The optical properties of the nanoparticles ZnxMn(1-x) Fe2O4 indicate absorbance at wavelengths of 330.36–331.74 nm. The absorbance level increased as the Zn element decreased, resulting a direct optical gap of 3.47 eV and an indirect optical gap of 3.23 eV. The Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) curve in the SPR biosensor indicated a shift in the reflective angle of the Prism/Au/Air configuration, which is 47.78° on Prisma/Au/nanoparticle of Zn0.8Mn0.2Fe2O4/air by 50.75°, and the prism/Au/nanoparticle of Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2 O4/air by 51.04°. The substitution of Zn ions in the compound Zn x Mn(1-x)Fe2O4 affects the resulting ATR curve. The shift in the SPR angle is caused by changes in the refractive index in each layer which is influenced by the concentration of each material which has an impact on the absorbance ability and photon reflectance. This research has the potential to continue with the testing of dielectric and magnetic properties, as well as special testing for biological analytes compatible with ZnxMn(1-x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

This study adopted AI to identify the normal and abnormal vibration signals generated during robotic grinding. This study classified four fundamental factors affecting grinding into three levels to obtain a widely used result and designed an L9(3 4) orthogonal array for the grinding experiment. During experimentation, part of the grinding wheels was added weight to produce abnormal vibration signals, which an accelerometer would measure. The study transformed the collected vibration signals into recurrence plots and conducted model training with VGG16 CNN architecture. Finally, this study tested a model with 89.6% training accuracy. The results showed the model could identify whether the recurrence plots stand for normal or abnormal vibrations, with an accuracy of 85%. This means it could predict normal and abnormal grinding conditions and help avoid problems caused by abnormal vibrations. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Korean Society for Precision engineering.

A simple discrete version of B-splines is proposed. The proposed discrete version has different values from B-splines at the discrete points, but it is proven that the proposed discrete version tends to B-splines when the sampling interval goes to zero. Technical Kaolin is a commercially sold kaolin with a relatively low level of purity and is often used as a filler of paints, paper, and ceramics. In this study, we tested the technical properties of kaolin physically and chemically, which include XRF, SEM, XRD, and FTIR. Based on the XRF test, the main composition of kaolin, SiO2, Al2O3, K2O, Fe2O3, and TiO2 were 46.66%, 39.63%, 0.84%, 0.55% and 0.274% respectively, while the rest were impurities. The FTIR spectra showed the functional groups of Al-OH, Al-O, and Si-O. While the XRD diffractogram identified kaolinite as the main mineral phase in the presence of quartz, chlorite, halloysite, and cristobalite tested in small quantities in the sample. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A popular analysis used to explore scientific data today is to use bibliometric analysis. Bibliometric analysis will be carried out by exploring data taken from scopus indexed journals. in addition, visualizing the program is done using the help of the VOSviewer application. The purpose of bibliometric analysis in this study is to determine the development of research related to program coordination. Specifically, this article discusses the development of literature, publication trends, authors, keywords used in the span of the last 10 years (2012-2022). Data were collected from the Scopus database using the keywords 'occupational health and safety' 'system dynamic' and 'system thinking'. The results showed that the results of data exploration showed the number of publications per year from 2012-2022 as many as 67 citations. Salmon, P.M. is a researcher who has the greatest productivity in these keywords. Then, the country that publishes the most articles with related keywords is Australia. © 2023 The authors and IOS Press.

Electromagnetic properties of coal using microstrip and an algorithm based on the Nicolson-Ross-Weir method

The work implements an experimental methodology to find the dielectric parameters: electrical permittivity, effective permittivity, magnetic permeability, conductivity, absorption coefficient, impedance, and loss tangent of bituminous coal from the municipality of Morcá and Tópaga belonging to the Sogamoso-Jericó sub-basin of the Guaduas formation, one of the most important coal reserves in Colombia. The methodology, known for its efficiency, includes constructing a microstrip-type circuit, measuring scattering parameters or S-parameters at frequencies between 300 kHz and 1 GHz with a vector network analyzer, and extracting electromagnetic properties using the Nicolson-Ross-Weir algorithm. The implemented algorithm allowed us to see the behavior of the coal in a fraction of the ultra-high frequency band and to find quickly and easily the approximate values of the parameters as a function of frequency, which are very important for investigations in mathematical modeling and computational electromagnetics. The results show that the real and imaginary components of the relative dielectric permittivity decrease with increasing frequency, and the absorption coefficient and the loss tangent of the coal increase as a function of frequency, indicating that the coal behaves as a dissipative dielectric. © The Author(s) 2024.

UV exposure, soil burial, and storage ability tests were carried out on biocomposite films with different concentrations of nanocrystal cellulose to study their biodegradability and morphological properties compared to neat whey protein films. The addition of nanocrystal cellulose as a natural filler to the whey protein based film can change a variety of properties such as strength, shelf life, biodegradability, and resistance to environmental conditions that are required in food packaging. The degradation films were assessed by UV exposure and soil burial tests. On the other hand, packaging ability is analyzed through storage tests under controlled conditions. After the analysis, changes in physical, chemical, and morphological properties were observed in the biocomposite film. From these results, we can conclude that the whey protein film with the addition of 3% nanocrystal cellulose would be a more favorable choice because of its better properties and suitability for the proposed biodegradable food packaging application. © 2023
