As one of the most important economic industries, how to improve the quality and output of the coffee industry is important. Defective coffee beans affect the flavor of coffee after roasting and grinding. In order to reduce the cost of labor and time, it is effective to use a convolutional neural network (CNN) model to identify defective green coffee beans. However, the complexity and huge parameters of the CNN model make the edge computing devices spend too much time on identification. Therefore, we introduced a lightweight deep learning network Slim-CNN to classify green coffee beans. Experiment results show that Slim-CNN achieves 92% accuracy with 6 times fewer parameters than MobileNet and 270 times fewer parameters than VGG16. The Slim-CNN model can be used on different edge computing devices to reduce labor costs in the coffee industry and improve the quality of coffee. © 2022 IEEE.

Medicinal plant recognition manually takes a lot of time and money. Moreover, to reduce these resources, some researchers propose to implement artificial intelligence technology. This paper aims are to conduct a systematic literature review of medicinal plant leaf recognition published in the last two years (2019-2020) from IEEE, Springer and Science Direct. We obtained 15 studies in the field of medicinal plant leaf recognition using artificial intelligence. The dataset used for medicinal plant leaf recognition is mostly used private dataset, however, there are public dataset named Leaf, Flavia, Swedish dataset. We also found robust method that can be used for medicinal plant leaf recognition is Multichannel Modified Local Gradient Pattern (MCMLGP) and Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) as feature extraction;and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Multi-Layer Perceptron trained with Backpropagation algorithm (MLP-BP), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Transfer Learning (VGG19) as classifier. © 2021 IEEE.

The exploration of biomass fuels is crucial for enhancing the economic value of solid waste from palm oil and mitigating the environmental impact of greenhouse gases emitted by power plants. This study conducted a numerical analysis on a pulverized coal (PC) boiler with co-firing at various burner positions. The numerical simulation results indicate that co-firing with empty fruit bunch (EFB) can enhance the ignition characteristics of Low Rank Coal (LRC). shown in the FEGT area an average increase in temperature of 0.2-0.45%. However, it should be noted that this temperature value is still within safe limits because it does not cause overheating of the heater. Furthermore, the formation of unburned particles can be reduced through the distribution of CO2. Additionally, the co-firing case 2 exhibits low NOx emissions, with a decrease rate of 24.6% when burner B is set at a condition of 1,63E-07. This condition is considered the most ideal as it is also accompanied by a significant reduction in SO2 emissions, ranging from 21.82% to 24.7%. © 2024 IEEE.

Maintenance and rehabilitation as parts of pavement's life cycle become more important since it's an effort to restore the road condition as planned. This process will produce the emission of greenhouse gases that give an impact to the environment. The Live Cycle Assessment (LCA) was used to estimate the GHG's emissions. With LCA we could identify the unit process that will produce the GHG's emissions during maintenance and rehabilitation of road pavement. This research aimed to identify the unit processes of the maintenance and rehabilitation of rigid and flexible pavement and to analyse the amount of GHG emitted during this process. Four local roads in Indonesia were investigated as case studies. The result indicated the amount of energy of the unit processes as well as the GHG amount. This will lead to the identification of the hotspot of flexible and rigid pavement maintenance process. In rigid pavement maintenance activities, the hotspots included the asphalt transport process to asphalt mixing plant, cement transportation to the batching plant, and cement processing. Meanwhile, in flexible pavement maintenance activities, the hotspots were the asphalt transportation to asphalt mixing plant, transportation aggregate, and transportation to site. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Railway ballast is a natural aggregate widely used in railway infrastructure. The mechanical strength and geometric shape of ballast particles have an important role in the durability and maintenance economy of the ballasted track. This paper aimed to investigate the abrasive behavior of andesite ballast particles using a rotating drum abrasion test and 3D morphological shape analysis. The photogrammetric reconstruction method is adopted here and modified to make it more efficient and user-friendly. The evolution of mass, particle shape, and grain indices were compared for different shape classifications. The experimental results show that the evolution of elongation and flakiness that describe overall particle shape is inconsistent during abrasion, whereas the equivalent ellipsoid volume ratio and rotational resistant angle, which mainly describe particle surface angularity evolve gradually throughout this long-term abrasion process. So, the latter two shape indices describe particle abrasion behavior more accurately. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Speech recognition and response system technology in service robot research continues to evolve alongside technical advances and the increasing demand for intelligent automation across industries. The development of machine learning, digital signal processing, and artificial neural networks has brought significant advancements to speech recognition systems. While speech recognition has been implemented in various systems, there is limited discussion on categorizing these systems by examining four aspects: speech recognition applications, datasets used, emotional speech recognition, and automatic speech recognition. In this study, a review of these four aspects is conducted, focusing on the algorithms and methods used, along with their advantages and disadvantages, particularly in the context of implementing them in service robots using the Indonesian language. This study involves a literature review of 100 research papers from the last five years. The review concludes that the use of the transformer method combined with other techniques and Indonesian language datasets is still very limited. Therefore, future research will focus on developing and implementing these methods in humanoid service robots. © 2024 IEEE.

A research on developing a system that integrates clean production and waste water treatment for biogas production in tofu small industry has been conducted. In this research, tofu waste water was turned into biogas using an AnSBR reactor. Mud from the sewage system serves as the inoculums. This research involved: (1) workshop;(2) supervising;(3) technical meeting;(4) network meeting, and (5) technical application. Implementation of clean production integrated with waste water treatment reduced the amount of waste water to be treated in a treatment plant. This means less cost for construction and operation of waste water treatment plants, as inherent limitations associated with such plants like lack of fund, limited area, and technological issues are inevitable. Implementation of clean production prior to waste water treatment reduces pollution figures down to certain levels that limitations in waste water treatment plants can be covered. Results show that biogas in 16 days HRT in an AnSBR reactor contains CH4(78.26 %) and CO2 (20.16 %). Meanwhile, treatments using a conventional bio-digester result in biogas with 72.16 % CH4 and 18.12 % CO2. Hence, biogas efficiency for the AnSBR system is 2.14 times greater than that of a conventional bio-digester. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The presence of road lighting helps a car driver to identify nearby cars. The availability of road lighting can also reduce the occurrence of security disturbances however it has not been considered as the cause of accident. A study was conducted to analyze the visual perception of car drivers toward the road lighting. The research was conducted on Cikampek and Cipularang freeways which include straight and curved road sections. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires as the measurements instrument by asking the participants to watch the video footage of the freeway. The results show that the car drivers feel safer and more clarity in identifying the traffic signs and road marking in the presence of road lighting. Furthermore, yellowish road lighting provides more visual safety perception than white lighting which opposed with other previous studies. This result was obtained from the existing condition in the questionnaires without any control variable. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Ion thrusters have acquired extensive applications in the space industry with their advantages of high efficiency, high specific impulse, and long lifetime. To operate a radio-frequency (RF) ion thruster successfully, a high-frequency current must be generated to facilitate the discharge of inductively coupled plasma. In this study, with support of trial and error, it is discovered that the thrust performance of an RF ion thruster depends on not only the RF power but also on other critical parameters, such as the propellant flow rate, ion grids voltages, and RF input power. A surrogate model, namely – the Kriging model, is employed to simplify the estimation and optimization of thrust performance. The thrust and specific impulse are selected to be the crucial metrics for used Kriging models for categorizing all types of propulsions. On the basis of Kriging model simulations, the designed RF ion thruster can achieve a thrust of 1.9 mN, a specific impulse of 1649.5 s, and a thrust efficiency of 48% under a propellant flow rate of 4 sccm, grids’ voltage difference of 2500 V, and an RF input power of 40 W. © 2023 IAA

Traffic flow and building parameters are analysed jointly to identify urban noise tendencies. For this purpose, the building parameter applied is the Floor Space Index (FSI). Acoustical and traffic flow data were collected and incorporated into a Geographical Information System (GIS). The fu-ture scenarios for this zone were created. For the FSI parameter, it was ver-ified that the higher the value of the average FSI, the higher the noise lev-els registered in urban canyons.
