He is engaged mainly in research on high-frequency coreless transformers and noise filters. He is a member of the Japan AEM Society.

In order to realize light and small power supplies, this paper proposes a film-shape transformer called film transformer. The basic operating principle of this transformer is the skin effect similar to those of the coreless transformer previously exploited by the authors. Both the primary and secondary coils composed of thin-film conductors are arranged coaxially on the one-layer film base, and the film transformer is constructed by the lamination of these films. In this paper, experimental as well as numerical studies are carried out about basic characteristics of the film transformer in order to examine possibilities in practical use. As a result, it is shown that the film transformer may be applicable to high-frequency switching power supplies.

Advancements in machine learning techniques for analyzing heart rate variability (HRV) show great potential in accurately measuring various activities in the field of health monitoring. This work examines the feasibility of using non-invasive HRV data gathered during everyday activities to train machine learning models for accurate activity classification. In the field of personalization, the study focuses on the difficulty of adapting to individual differences in baseline HRV. It also acknowledges that HRV is influenced by stress, physical activity, and external influences, and that it is a dynamic measure. The experimental methodology consists of a pilot study using a retrospective observational cohort approach. It utilizes a waistband device to continuously record heart rate variability (HRV) during different daily activities. The study utilizes a thorough methodology that includes statistical data description, correlation analysis, variance analysis, outlier detection, and identification of cycle periods using power spectral density. The performance of various machine learning models, such as Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, and Logistic Regression, was evaluated for activity classification. The Decision Tree model exhibited superior performance. The work provides useful insights into the potential of machine learning for HRV-based activity monitoring, highlighting the importance of collecting reliable data and developing tailored models to improve accuracy and practicality. © 2024 IEEE.

Pollution of domestic wastewater becomes an urban problem. Domestic wastewater contains a variety of pollutants. One of the pollutant parameters in domestic wastewater is BOD. Domestic wastewater which BOD concentrations exceeding the quality standard will be harmful to the environment, particularly the receiving water body. Therefore, before being discharged into the environment, domestic wastewater needs to be processed first. One of the processing that has high efficiency, low cost and easy operation is biofilter technology. The purpose of this research was to analyze the efficiency of BOD concentration reduction in domestic wastewater with anaerobic reactor biofilter using volcanic gravel media. The type of reactor used is an anaerobic biofilter made of glass which volume of 30 liters while the biofilter media is volcanic gravel. In this research the established HRT were 24, 12, 6 and 3 hours. The results showed that the efficiency of BOD concentration reduction in artificial domestic wastewater reached 80%. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Poly ϵ-caprolactone (PCL) gets a lot of attention, and shows great potential in some applications among synthetic polymers. This is because the thermoplastic polymer posses some desirable features, including good stability, and easy of process. PCL also had some specific properties when it blended with organic or inorganic filler. Bentonite (montmorillonite/clay) has been studied as one of filler material used for improving the genuine properties of polymer. The modifying process of bentonite is an initial stage before mixing with PCL matrix to form a composite, it consist of purification and opening stage of d-spacing layer with surfactant for several size of bentonite (100,120, 150, 200 and 250 mesh). Some characterization have been done to measure how good the filler is. CEC value was obtained at size of 250 mesh of 79.00 meq/100 g. From the results of X-RD (X-Ray Diffraction) analysis shows the increasing bentonite d-pacing layer since before and after the modification process equal to 0,425 nm. FT-IR analysis identify the functional groups contained in bentonite, the Si-O and Al-O vibrations appear on wave numbers 420 cm-1-1200 cm-1. To identify the biomedical properties of PCL, chitosan nanoparticle has been added as filler with bentonite biomedical material applications such as for medical tools. The results of Tensile Test showed that the presence of modified chitosan-bentonite in PCL polymer improve the mechanical properties of the composite, the composition of filler Bentonit-Chitosan 7% is the maximum value of 290 Mpa. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The disregard for pedestrians' quality of life on streets is noticeable, in such a way that they are constantly exposed to excessive levels of noise, at bus stops, on a walk, or in sidewalks. Seeking to identify areas with noise conflicts for pedestrians in a Brazilian medium sized city, situated in the state of Sao Paulo, this research verifies noise levels in an urban road network. For this identification, a study area was selected according to its diversity on land use and occupation, as well as to the variety of patterns in building heights. Forty-eight points on urban streets, positioned in the middle of the street blocks, were taken as references for the registration of acoustical data and data of traffic flow. This field campaign took place on weekdays (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and at peak hours of vehicular traffic flow. All data were entered into a Geographic Information System (GIS). By exploring the potentiality and tools of the software, the urban noise was characterized along the streets of the study area. An analysis of its spatial distribution was undertaken and the results indicated that there are many points in this area that are above the comfort conditions established by technical standards. Furthermore, it was possible to verify differences on noise levels according to the street slope. © European Acoustics Association.

Wind power, solar power and water power are technologies that can be used as the main sources of renewable energy so that the target of decarbonisation in the energy sector can be achieved. However, when compared with conventional power plants, they have a significant difference. The share of renewable energy has made a difference and posed various challenges, especially in the power generation system. The reliability of the power system can achieve the decarbonization target but this objective often collides with several challenges and failures, such that they make achievement of the target very vulnerable, Even so, the challenges and technological solutions are still very rarely discussed in the literature. This study carried out specific investigations on various technological solutions and challenges, especially in the power system domain. The results of the review of the solution matrix and the interrelated technological challenges are the most important parts to be developed in the future. Developing a matrix with various renewable technology solutions can help solve RE challenges. The potential of the developed technological solutions is expected to be able to help and prioritize them especially cost-effective energy. In addition, technology solutions that are identified in groups can help reduce certain challenges. The categories developed in this study are used to assist in determining the specific needs and increasing transparency of the renewable energy integration process in the future.

The quality of asphalt concrete that meets technical specifications as an asphalt pavement construction material is the main consideration for an engineer, so that the design life of the road can be achieved. Currently, the use of modified type II PG70 asphalt mixture is considered to be a relevant choice for road conditions in areas with a tropical climate, especially in hot temperature areas. Asphalt concrete is a construction material that has flexible behavior during traffic loads. One of the behaviors in question is the resilient modulus (Mr), the selection of aggregate gradations and the type of asphalt that meets certain requirements which greatly affects the quality of asphalt concrete. Method is using static loading with the Marshall test tool. The value of the modulus of elasticity can be measured with the Marshall parameter. The maximum resilience modulus value for the asphalt concrete mixture AC–WC = 67,678 Mpa and AC–BC = 72,732 Mpa. The application of the Marshall test is still feasible to use in determining the resilient modulus, although there are other, more detailed methods in finding the resilient modulus of a material. The resilient modulus analysis carried out by the author aims to determine the value of the resilience modulus (Mr) on the AC–WC and AC–BC pavement layers as an evaluation of the results of the design planning (Detail engineering Design) of road pavements. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Low head hydropower has the potential to produce green energy with a minimum on the environment and is one of the best choices for decentralized power plants. Aceh is one of many regions in Indonesia with hilly topography and many river streams. Of the 66 rivers in Aceh that have potential energy sources that can be developed 98.5 percent are low head. Generally, the technique for overcoming altitude problems in low river flows is the use of low head turbines. An important aspect of head power generation techniques is the selection of turbines. The study aimed to study low head propeller turbines for the use of micro hydropower plants. By calculating the main dimensions and main components of the turbine, field experiments were carried out to determine turbine rotation and energy, as well as turbine efficiency at a flow rate of 0.06 m3/sec and a 3.5-meter head. The calculation results obtained by a specific turbine speed of 1.53, runner diameter of 0.30 meters, hub diameter of 0.06 meters, shaft diameter 0.03, runner length 1.08, triangular speed of 30 degrees with the number of blades 4 pieces. From the results of field experiments, the maximum turbine rotation speed is 1828 rpm, the turbine power is 2,530 watts with a voltage between 220 to 240 volts while the maximum efficiency is 57 percent. It can be concluded that propeller-type turbines with the low head are suitable for micro power plants, especially in remote areas. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Rapid eye movement - non rapid eye movement (REM-NREM) sleep and daytime sleepiness vary with ultradian rhythm (U rhythm) of approximately 1-2 hour period. U rhythm component was also found in suprachiasmatic nucleus which is a master clock of circadian rhythm (C rhythm). However, the interaction between U and C rhythms is not fully understood. To find a measure to reveal the interaction between U and C rhythms, we focused on core body temperature (CBT) which shows C rhythm. U rhythm of CBT recorded using rectal temperature was analyzed comparing to REM-NREM sleep cycle. As results, U rhythm components reflecting REM-NREM sleep cycle were extracted from CBT by filtering. In addition, U rhythm components of CBT through a day were also extracted. Therefore, it is suggested that CBT can be used as a measure to evaluate U and C rhythms. This finding might contribute to revealing the interaction between U and C rhythms. © 2020 IEEE.

Transient analysis of an advanced static Var compensator using quad-series voltage-source PAM inverters

He is engaged in research on reactive power compensators.

This paper deals with an advanced static Var compensator (ASVC) using quad-series voltage-source PAM inverters. The ASVC consists of four three-phase voltage-source inverters with a common de capacitor and four three-phase transformers, each primary winding of which is connected in series with each other. Each inverter outputs a square-wave voltage, while the synthesized output voltage of the ASVC has a 24-step wave shape. This results not only in a great reduction of harmonic currents and de voltage ripples but also in fewer switching and snubbing losses. In this paper, transient analysis is performed with the focus on the response of reactive power and the resonance between the de capacitor and ac reactors. Experimental results obtained from a small-rated laboratory model of 10 kVA are also shown to verify analytical results based on the p-q transformation. The analytical results help in the design of system parameters such as the capacity of the de capacitor and feedback gains.
