Limocitrin induced cellular death through ERK pathways in human oral squamous cell cancer

This study sought to investigate the anticancer efficacy of limocitrin on two distinct human oral cancer cell lines. At first, we evaluated the effect of limocitrin on the proliferation of OSCC cells (SCC-9 and SCC-47) using MTT and colony formation assays. Limocitrin treatment increased cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase, induced caspase-related apoptosis (cleaved caspase-3, caspase-8, caspase-9 and PARP expression) in OSCC cells. Limocitrin treatment inhibited Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL and induced Bax, Bak expression in both SCC-9 and SCC-47 cell lines. Limocitrin treatment inhibited cyclin E1, E2, CDK2, CDK4, and CDK6 and increased p21 expression. Limocitrin also exhibited an inhibitory effect on the phosphorylation of AKT, ERK1/2 and JNK in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, pretreatment of oral cancer cells with U0126 resulted in increased cleaved caspase-3 and caspase-8 and PARP expression. Furthermore, limocitrin treatment decreased XIAP, cIAP1, HSP27 protein expression than control group. Combined treatment with limocitrin and si-XIAP significantly increased cleaved PARP, caspase-3 and -8 expressions in SCC-9 cells. Overall, this evidence indicates that limocitrin may serve as an effective anticancer agent for the treatment of oral cancer.

With its origin in sociology, Social Network Analysis (SNA), quickly emerged and spread to other areas of research, including anthropology, biology, information science, organizational studies, political science, and computer science. Being it's objective the investigation of social structures through the use of networks and graph theory, Social Network Analysis is, nowadays, an important research area in several domains. Social Network Analysis cope with different problems namely network metrics, models, visualization and information spreading, each one with several approaches, methods and algorithms. One of the critical areas of Social Network Analysis involves the calculation of different centrality measures (i.e.: the most important vertices within a graph). Today, the challenge is how to do this fast and efficiently, as many increasingly larger datasets are available. Recently, the need to apply such centrality algorithms to non static networks (i.e.: networks that evolve over time) is also a new challenge. Incremental and dynamic versions of centrality measures are starting to emerge (betweenness, closeness, etc). Our contribution is the proposal of two incremental versions of the Laplacian Centrality measure, that can be applied not only to large graphs but also to, weighted or unweighted, dynamically changing networks. The experimental evaluation was performed with several tests in different types of evolving networks, incremental or fully dynamic. Results have shown that our incremental versions of the algorithm can calculate node centralities in large networks, faster and efficiently than the corresponding batch version in both incremental and full dynamic network setups. This paper addresses the dynamic location management for personal communication service (PCS) networks with consideration of mobility patterns. The popular hexagonal cellular architecture is considered. In this paper, we first introduce a coordinate system for the hexagonal cellular architectures. Then, we develop an all-direction mobility model based on the coordinate system for the hexagonal cellular architecture to cope with the mobility patterns of mobile terminals (MTs). The shape and size of the local area (LA) in the dynamic location management scheme is determined by minimizing the total location management cost with bounding the paging cost The optimization problem is transferred to maximize expected number of cells traversed by the MT in the LA with a given size of the LA. The analytic model of calculating the probabilities of any MT's moving is established. An algorithm is proposed to solve the optimization problem efficiently. © 2005 IEEE.

In this article, we propose a conceptual framework of mobile self-screening to detect breast cancer at the initial stage using temperature characteristics. A trained convolutional neural network (CNN) is implemented to extract and classify the breast thermogram. Moreover, a histogram of temperature distribution is also provided to support a recommendation to the user. As we consider the user's data privacy, reliability, low latency, and low cost, we also suggest some recommendations in inferencing the CNN model on the mobile device. Finally, we describe the application overview to demonstrate the feature function. © 2021 IEEE.

Neurons related to pair-association memory have been found in the inferotemporal cortex of monkeys, but their activities do not accord with existing neural network models. The article describes a neural network model consisting of excitatory-inhibitory cell pairs, which recalls paired patterns based on a gradual shift of the network state. It is demonstrated by computer simulations that this model agrees well with the observed neuronal activities.

Recent advances in robotics have been applied to automation in industrial manufacturing, with the primary purpose of optimizing practical systems in terms of such objective measures as accuracy, speed, and cost. This paper describes research on mental commit robot that seeks a different direction that is not so rigidly dependent on such objective measures. The main goal of this research is to explore a new area in robotics, with an emphasis on human-robot interaction. In the previous research, we categorized robots into four categories in terms of appearance. Then, we introduced a cat robot and a seal robot, and evaluated them by interviewing many people. The results showed that physical interaction improved subjective evaluation. Moreover, a priori knowledge of a subject has much influence into subjective interpretation and evaluation of mental commit robot. In this paper, 785 subjects evaluated the seal robot, Paro by questionnaires in an exhibition. This paper reports the results of statistical analysis of evaluation data. © Fuji Technology Press Ltd.

Induction motors can be operated as induction generators when additional capacitors are added to the stator terminals. Capacitors connected to induction generators can generate voltage and can provide reactive power. The advantage of induction generators can be used in small-scale plants such as micro-hydro power plants. However, the weakness of induction generators are weak voltage regulation and dependence on capacitors to generate voltage. This study conducted a test to see how the effect of capacitor capacity on the voltage generated by a induction generator when serving multiple incandescent lamp loads. The capacitor used is connected with a wye connection because the Wye connection can generate a higher voltage than the Delta connection circuit. This research has been successfully carried out with variations in capacitor values, namely 45 F, 60 F, and 75 F and variations in lamp load values, namely 5W, 15W, 25W, 40W and 60W. Based on the results of the study, the induction generators uses a 45 F capacitor with a load of 5 W, the terminal voltage for line to line is 374 V. However, when using a 75 F capacitor with a 60W load, the terminal voltage for line to line is 239 V. The terminals voltage of the induction generators can also be kept at a constant 380 V by providing varying capacitor values even though it serves varying loads. © 2022 IEEE.

The e-commerce industry has seen significant growth over the past decade as it focuses on convenience and accessibility, leading to a surge in online shopping with more and more consumers opting for it. At the same time, the e-commerce industry faces various challenges. In order to fully harness the potential of this industry, it is important to identify its benefits and challenges and focus on pathways to mitigate the challenges and harness its growth. This study utilizes the Delphi approach and involves experts from the e-commerce domain to get their opinions to identify the top ten benefits, challenges, and pathways for the e-commerce industry. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) methods are subsequently, employed to prioritize the identified factors. Results of the study revealed that factors such as affordable advertising & marketing;availability and product variety;and Global reachability are the most important benefits, while technological upgradation;returns or refunds;and counterfeit products posed the greatest challenges for the industry. Government compliance check;better relationship with delivery partners;and strong data privacy and online security policies emerged as the best pathways. This study also provides valuable insights to businesses, policymakers, and researchers in the e-commerce industry on how to navigate the benefits, challenges, and pathways of this rapidly growing sector. © 2023

Automatic Identification System (AIS) data contains static and dynamic information for identification, tracking, and collision avoidance of vessels, as well as management of maritime activities. In the utilization of AIS data, a data pipeline framework is needed which includes the process of capturing messages, translating messages, detecting data corruption, cleaning damaged data, reconstructing trajectories, visualizing data, and storing data for analysis needs. Usually, the analysis and storage of AIS data are done offline which makes it not conducive to understanding vessel dynamics. In addition, large AIS data contains incomplete and noisy information that affects the quality of the trajectory. In this context, this article has proposed an AIS data pipeline framework in the form of pre-processing and real-time trajectory reconstruction. Pre-processing is intended to eliminate data anomalies caused by transmission errors. While the trajectory reconstruction process to overcome missing values due to noise is based on the Cubic Spline interpolation technique. All processes in the data pipeline framework are streamed using Apache Kafka. The simulation results show that the proposed AIS data pipelines framework has succeeded in visualizing the data flow in the form of a map application and trajectory reconstruction in real-time.

In order to protect a server to become overloading due to concentration of accesses, a mirror server system is widely used for distributing the load to multiservers. For such a system, it is very important for users to select an appropriate one among the servers. In the previous systems, the DNS (domain name system) Round-Robin mechanism is widely adopted for this purpose, otherwise users must choose a server by themselves. Even in the former method, however, since all servers are evenly assigned to clients without any cares of the performance and process status of the servers, the load of each server is deflected. To solve the above problem, this article proposes a new adaptive load balancing method based on the ordinary DNS Round-Robin mechanism. In this proposal, a DNS server for the mirror-server system periodically probes the status of each server. For a query from each client, the DNS server changes its response from the probed results and IP address of the client. Finally, the prototype system of the proposal is implemented and the file transfer speeds of both the proposed method and Round-Robin DNS method are estimated for the mirror server system of RingServer Project in Japan.
